History[]

Ercildoune Homestead is a large Victorian Homestead built by Scottish-born brothers Thomas and Somerville Learmonth in 1838–1839 and purchased by Sir Samuel Wilson around 1875 for a rumoured £250,000.[2] The present homestead is a large stone mansion with gabled wings, crow-stepped and castellated parapets. Ercildoune is one of the most important historic homesteads and one of the earliest surviving buildings in Victoria.[3]
