The format used in this tournament are best of three with single round robin in the group stage and single elimination in knockout stage. The highest two of each group will advance to semifinals.[5] The best of three series consists of the following: 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, and a second 1 vs 1.[4]
9 in-game clubs are available for selection for competitors of the PES tournament. In a best of three series between two nations, each side cannot select the same in-game club more than once. Two nations cannot play the same in-game club against each other in a single match. In the event that the two sides choose the same club, a referee shall make a coin toss to decide which team shall change their selection.[4]
