FC Magaroeli is a Georgian football club from Chiatura. Following the 2021 season they were relegated to Liga 4.
The team has twice participated in the top flight.
History[]
Formed in 1936, Chiatura won the Georgian championship in 1975, and also clinched the domestic Cup title in 1978 and 1979. The club spent four seasons in the Soviet Second league.[1]
In 1992/93 season the club finished second in the Pirveli Liga which paved the way for Umaglesi Liga in 1993/94. Magaroeli participated in the top flight also in 1997/98.
In 2007/08 they won the second division with a 23-point margin.[2]
Until 2016 the club competed in Liga 2 where they mostly were involved in relegation battles. After finishing sixth in the regular 2016 season, Magaroeli lost a relegation tie against Meshakhte Tkibuli.
The next year they won Liga 3, although failed to move up after a poor performance in the promotion tournament.[3]
In 2018, Chiatura finished in 12th place in a 20-team league and along with all other bottom-half clubs were relegated to the newly formed Liga 4.
In 2019 Georgian top goalscorer 34 year-old Jaba Dvali joined Chiatura.[4]
In 2020 the club finished 2nd. Even though this result fell short of the promotion, some changes of the league format announced in January 2021 by GFF awarded Magaroeli a slot in Liga 3 for the upcoming season. After one season, though, the club was relegated.
