FC Desna-2 Chernihiv (Ukrainian: ФК "Десна-2" Чернігів) is the reserve or second squad of Ukrainian football club Desna Chernihiv or Under 21, from the city of Chernihiv.[1]

FC Desna-2 entered the professional leagues for the first time in 2008. With the recent successes and improvement the senior team has had, the club decided to enter the club into the Druha Liha to give their players more exposure to higher quality competition. Desna-2 had been competing in the Chernihivska Oblast competition and prepared themselves in the fourth-level 2008 Ukrainian Football Amateur League.[2]

In October 25, 2008 FC Desna-2 Chernihiv did not arrive for the match against their opponent FC Knjazha-2 Schaslyve.[3] The team is currently playing in the championship of Chernihiv region. The team performed in the amateur championship of Ukraine, where she took the last 5th place in her group D.[4][5]

Ukrainian Second League[]

The team started in the Ukrainian Second League of the Ukrainian Championship, but after the 15th round it starred with a competitor.[6] The results of the matches were annulled (at that moment the teams had 2 wins, 1 night and 12 defeats).

Recent time[]

In 2016, Desna-2 was revived. Serhiy Bakun has been appointed head coach.[7] The 2016 wedding team took part in its Chernihiv Premier League. In the quarterfinals with a score of 3: 0 was usually "Slavutych", and in the semifinals "Desna-2" won the team USB-2 (1: 1, on penalties - 2: 3).[8][9]

On April 20, 2017, the team started in the championship of the Chernihiv region. In the first match, held in Chernihiv at the Lokomotiv stadium, Desna-2 joined Agrodom from Bakhmach with a score of 0: 1.[10] On 16.05.17, the team lost 1-2 against FC Chernihiv for the championship of the Chernihiv region.[11] On April 20, 2017, the team started in the championship of the Chernihiv region. In the first match, held in Chernihiv at the Lokomotiv stadium, Desna-2 joined Agrodom from Bakhmach with a score of 0: 1.[12] In 2016-17 participated in the Chernihiv Oblast Football Championship.[13]In october 2020 he signed the first greek player called .[14][15][16]

In 2021, the second main team of the city FC Chernihiv decided to rent some player from the club.[17]In summer 2021 the main club Desna Chernihiv, decided to develop their own academy and use many players of Desna 2, like Illya Shevtsov, , , Yevheniy Belych, , Renat Mochulyak and Denys Demyanenko to reinforce the club and replace main players like Yevhen Past, Andriy Hitchenko, Yukhym Konoplya and Joonas Tamm.

Stadium and facilities[]

The team of the Desna 2 play in the Olympic sports training center "Chernihiv" (formerly Stadion Yuriya Gagarina). The Stadion Yuri Gagarin in Chernihiv was built in 1936 for 3,000 spectators in eastern portion of a city park (garden) that exists since 1804 and where previously was located residence of the Chernihiv Archbishops. The team play also some matches in the Chernihiv Arena, in Tekstylschyk stadium in Lokomotiv stadium and in the Khimik Sport Complex.[18][19]

Crest[]

The crest of the club, which was created in early 2008 contained an image of an eagle from the coat of arms of Chernihiv and a sign of Chernihiv prince Mstyslav Volodymyrovych.[20][21]
