Flash in the Pan is the third studio album by Australian multi-instrumentalist musician Jay Watson's music moniker GUM.[2] The album was teased on YouTube on November 3, 2016,[3] and was released on November 16, 2016, in Australia by Spinning Top Music.[4][5] The album was preceded by the single "Gemini."[6][7] Watson explained that it was "the first song I recorded for the album, and probably the most immediate."[8] It featured a contribution by Sergio Flores on saxophone.[9][10]
Reception[]
The album was described as "such an electrical release" and "a fresh take on synth rock."[11][12] The first single from this album, "Gemini," was described by NME as "a swirl of looped vocals, Pond-y synth work and dreamy, subtle bass".[13] Writing for Clash Magazine, Noveen Bajpai wrote, "[This album] digs deeper into ‘80s power pop, and doesn’t exactly start off with the kind of bang suggested by the mothership-esque landing of its title track."[14]
Tracks[]
All tracks are written by Jay Watson (except track 5, which is written by Lloyd Stowe).
