Ghosts is an American television sitcom adapted from the British series of the same name, created by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond for CBS.[1] It premiered on October 7, 2021.[2] In October 2021, the series was given a full season order.[3]
Premise[]
Married New Yorkers Samantha and Jay believe that their dreams have come true when they inherit a beautiful country house, only to find that it is falling apart and inhabited by ghosts who died on the mansion's grounds and are now bound to the area until they can reach the afterlife. Jay cannot see or hear the ghosts, but Samantha, after having a near-death experience, can.
Cast[]
Main[]
Living[]
- Rose McIver as Samantha Arondekar, a freelance journalist who, after an accident that leaves her close to death, revives with the ability to see and hear ghosts everywhere.[4]
- Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay Arondekar, Samantha's husband and an unemployed chef.[4]
Ghosts[]
- Brandon Scott Jones as Captain Isaac Higgintoot, an American Revolutionary officer[5] who died of dysentery[6] two weeks after the siege of Fort Ticonderoga[7] and is a footnote in history.[7] He is based on the Captain in the original British series.
- Richie Moriarty as Pete Martino, a Girl Scout leader[5] who died in 1985 from being shot through the neck with an arrow.[6] He is based on Pat Butcher in the British version.
- Asher Grodman as Trevor Lefkowitz, the most recently deceased of the ghosts, a wealthy, hard-partying Wall Street trader[5] who died not wearing pants. Unlike the other ghosts, he can interact with the physical world by putting great effort into moving small objects or pressing buttons.[6] He is based on Julian Fawcett MP in the British version.
- Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty Woodstone, the lady of the manor, the original owner of the Woodstone country estate.[4] She is based on Lady Fanny Button in the British version.
- Sheila Carrasco as Susan Montero, a.k.a Flower, a hippie[4] who died while trying to befriend a wild bear.[7] She has the power to put a living person in a trance, as if under the influence of marijuana, if she passes though them.[8]
- Danielle Pinnock as Alberta Haynes, a flamboyant Prohibition-era jazz singer[5] who died from drinking poisoned moonshine.[9] Her humming can be heard by the living.[6]
- Roman Zaragoza as Sasappis, a cynical Lenape Native American.[4]
- Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn, a Viking and the oldest of the ghosts who died of a lightning strike. Similar to Robin the caveman in the British version, he has the ability to make lights flicker and sometimes speaks in third person.[6]
Recurring[]
- Hudson Thames as Crash, a 1950s-era James Dean style ghost who was decapitated.[10] The character has so far only appeared in "Pilot" and briefly in the background of "Halloween", but CBS has suggested he may return in future episodes.[11]
In addition to the main ghosts, the mansion houses a group of ghosts who died of cholera and occupy the basement. Their sickly appearances disturb the upstairs ghosts. The total number is uncertain, but there are at least five, two of which have been named within the series (Stuart and Creepy Dirk), with the remaining three being listed in the credits. They are based on the Plague ghosts in the British version.
- Stuart Fink as Cholera Victim Stuart
- Arthur Holden as Cholera Victim Creepy Dirk
- Cody Crain as Cholera Victim Cody
- Nigel Downer as Cholera Victim Nigel
- Cat Lemieux as Cholera Victim Catherine
- Betsy Sodaro as Cholera Victim Nancy
