Guillaume Dumont (born 1889, date of death unknown) was a Belgian sculptor. His work was part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics.[1]
Career[]
In 1921 he collaborated with the architect Leon Stynen to create a war memorial column in Knokke.[2] The contest winning Memorial Stynen designed (Herdenkingsmonument 1914–1918) was meant to commemorate the World War I veterans from Knokke.[3] A Total of 16 designs were submitted and Stynen's was accepted. Stynen collaborated with Dumont to make the monument. There is a plaque affixed to the monument and Dumont's name is misspelled "Dupont".[4]
There are four standing figures representing soldiers: they lean against a center column. The sculpture was inaugurated 11 June 1922.[3]
