The Honourable Gustavus Hamilton (c. 1685 – 1735) was an Irish politician.

Birth and origins[]

Gustavus was born about 1685 in Ireland. He was the second son of Gustavus Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth Brooke. His father was the 1st Viscount Boyne. The viscounts Boyne are a noble branch of the House of Hamilton.[1] His mother was the second daughter of of Brookeborough in Fermanagh.[2][3]

Gustavus was born about 1685 in Ireland. He was the second son of Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne and his wife Elizabeth Brooke, daughter of . His younger brother was Henry Hamilton.[5] In 1716, he entered the Irish House of Commons for Donegal County, the same constituency his father and his older brother Frederick had represented before.[6] Hamilton sat as Member of Parliament until his death in 1735.[6]

Marriage[]

In January 1717, he married Dorothea Bellew, only daughter of .[7]

Gustavus and Dorothea had seven children, two sons:[8]

  1. succeeded as 3rd Viscount Boyne
  2. Richard succeeded as 4th Viscount Boyne

—and five daughters.

Death[]

The Honourable Gustavus Hamilton died on 26 February 1735.
