Hanswar is a Town in the Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, India, located east of Tanda. It was ruled by the Royal Family of Hanswar Estate till 1950. Demographically, Hanswar resembles the rest of the Purvanchal area in which it is located. It is primarily an agricultural area with small scale hand loom industry. It rates moderate in its level of literacy, and has a low human development index. Hanswar has a rich historical background. The Royal Estate of Hanswar stretched from the borders of old Awadh to the borders of Bihar.

Hanswar’s history dates back long before to the time of first mughal. It’s valorous chandrawanshi rulers such as Raja Ranvijay Singh of Hanswar and her Durgaswaroop wife Rani Jairaj Kunwar who fought Babur for Ram mandir with 25000 brave men at arms and Rani Jairaj Kumari with 3000 females and marted on soil for their pride and religion. Hanswar was also famous for Sadaprat which was arranged by royal family of hanswar state in which any hungry person can have food which went for almost 24 hours a day. Hanswar Riyasat is one of the very few and oldest surviving estate dating long back to 1300s.

History[]

Hanswar is a small town situated on the banks of river Ghaghra (locally known as Saryu). From the pre-historic period to the time of Akbar, the limits of the province and its internal divisions seem to have been constantly changing, and the name of Oudh, or Awadh, seems to have been applicable to only one of the ancient divisions or Sarkars, nearly corresponding to old Pachhimrath. The title of Subedar of Awadh is mentioned as early as 1280 A.D.

Education[]

Schools and higher education in Hanswar are administered either by the UPBoard and CBSE, or private organizations. In 2010-2011, there were 7 primary, 6 middle, 3 secondary and 7 senior secondary schools in Hanswar. That year, the higher education institutions in the city included 2 colleges.[citation needed]
