Heartstopper is an upcoming British LGBT coming-of-age streaming television series developed for Netflix, based on the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman.

Development[]
See-Saw Films optioned the television rights of Heartstopper in July 2019. On 20 January 2021, it was revealed that Netflix ordered an 8-half hour episode first season, with Oseman herself as writer and Euros Lyn as director and executive producer.[1] Also executive producing are Patrick Walters, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman with Zorana Piggott as producer. Production design by Tim Dickel, Series Set Decoration by Maxwell Fine and Props by Zoe Seiffert.
Casting[]
Daniel Edwards-Guy served as casting director. An open casting call went out in January and February 2021 for five of the main characters as well as three recurring.[2] Oseman explained that Aled would not appear in the adaptation because she wanted to respect his story in Radio Silence. After reportedly over 10,000 people auditioned, she announced the first round of casting in April 2021, with Kit Connor and Joe Locke starring as Nick and Charlie respectively.[3] The rest of the cast were announced days later, including Yasmin Finney, Sebastian Croft, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Rhea Norwood, and Tobie Donovan.[4] Jenny Walser joined in the cast in May.[5]
Filming[]
Production began on location in April and wrapped in June 2021. Crew were reported in Herne Bay.[6]
