Hyderabad Pharma City, is the "world’s largest pharmaceuticals industrial park" being established near Hyderabad, India by the Government of Telangana. Spread over 19,000 acres, the Park is touted to be biggest of its kind industrial cluster for the pharmaceuticals for pharmaceutical companies in manufacturing and development needs.[1]

Telangana Government has embarked on this project. It is expected to attract USD 9.7 billion Investment and generate employment to 560,000 people.[2]

Hyderabad Pharma City is an integrated facility being set up with effluent treatment facilities, solid waste management, secured landfill, use of natural gas for heating requirement thereby ensuring minimum air pollution, incinerators, testing facilities, real-time monitoring and control center, etc.

History[]

The Park is an initiative of the IT and Industries Minister, Government of Telangana, K. T. Rama Rao. It was announced on 24 March 2018. Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana State and has been an industrial capital and major economic hub. Pharmaceuticals is one of the major industries in and around Hyderabad in addition to Information Technology. Contributing to more than 40% of the bulk drug production in the country, Hyderabad has been named as “Bulk Drug Capital of India”[3] and “Vaccine Capital of the World”.[4]

In December 2019 the Government of India granted National Investment Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) status to the project[5] (NIMZ) status to the project and has recognized the project as a Project of National Importance. A Special Purpose Vehicle “Hyderabad Pharma City Ltd” has been set up to implement the project.[6]

Broad components of Hyderabad Pharma City[]

  • Industrial plots, Industrial sheds for pharma units with separate zones for bulk drug units, formulation units etc.
  • Trunk and internal roads
  • Solid waste and liquid effluent management facilities (CETP / ZLD facilities)
  • Water treatment & distribution facilities
  • Drainage and sewerage facilities
  • Power substation and distribution
  • Data and telecom facilities
  • Support facilities for manufacturing such as Material Testing Lab, Skill Development Centres, Quality Certification Lab /R&D Centre etc
  • Specialized facilities such as dedicated steam lines, effluent lines etc.
  • Residential facilities for industrial workers

Location[]

The Park is coming up in Mucherla near Hyderabad.[7][8]

Project site is located around Mucherla Village, Kandukur Mandal, Ranga Reddy District at a distance of approximately 25 km from Hyderabad Outer Ring Road (ORR) and ~ 29 km from Hyderabad International Airport.

Sustainability Focus and Alignment with SGDs[]

The Park will comply as a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) facility and with presence of common effluent treatment plants with a total capacity of 66 MLD.

Common Facilities[]

It will be a first-of-its-kind project featuring common facilities including:

  • Zero Liquid Discharge-based Common Effluent Treatment Plant
  • An integrated solid waste management facility
  • District heating and cooling systems
  • Logistic parks
  • A Global Pharma University
  • Regulatory facilitation cells
  • Common drug development and testing laboratories,
  • Start-up and SME hub

Companies presence[]

The companies that committed to have presence are Biocon, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Novartis.[9]

GoTS announced that the project will be operationalized in 2020. A total of 350 companies had approached the government seeking land in Pharma City, and 150 of them will be allotted land in phase I.[10]
