The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. They are the sixteenth generation flagship iPhones, succeeding the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The devices were unveiled alongside the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus at the Apple Event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California on September 7, 2022[7][8] and were made available on September 16, 2022. Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max began on September 9, 2022.[9]
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the first iPhones to have a new type of cutout display called "Dynamic Island", replacing the notch since the iPhone X introduced in 2017. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models (as well as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus) sold in the United States drop support for physical SIM cards, making them the first iPhone models since the CDMA variant of the iPhone 4 to not come with a discrete SIM card reader.[10]
Design[]
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are available in four colors: Silver, Space Black, Gold and Deep Purple. Deep Purple is a new color replacing Sierra Blue used on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Specifications[]
Hardware[]
Chipset[]
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max feature a new A16 Bionic system on a chip (SoC), built on TSMC's N4 fabrication process,[11][12] superseding the A15 Bionic seen on the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro lineup, the 3rd generation iPhone SE, and the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.
Camera[]
The devices' rear camera lenses have gotten larger, featuring a 48-megapixel sensor, 4 times larger than the 12MP sensor used on iPhones since 2015. This allows a new 2x telephoto mode, which allows for a 2x zoom and 4k video at 24fps, the industry Cinematic Mode standard. Apple now uses a new "Photonic Engine" for better image and video quality, and for video, it now has a video stabilization feature called Action Mode. The front-facing camera now has autofocus, and multiple people can be recognized in a Portrait Mode shot.
Display[]
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a typical 1,000 nits, peak of 1,600 nits and outdoor peak at 2000 nits. The display also has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, with LTPO technology. The iPhone 14 Pro has a resolution of 2556×1179 pixels at 460 ppi, while the Pro Max variant has a resolution of 2796×1290 pixels at 460 ppi. They have a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating with support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously. Both variants also support the "always on display" feature. The adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate can reduce down to 1 Hz to save battery life whilst in “Always On” mode.[citation needed]
The tab-shaped "notch" containing the front-facing camera has been replaced by two rounded cut-outs, slightly detached from the top of the screen; in software, they are camouflaged by a black rounded rectangle via the "Dynamic Island" feature.[13]
Battery[]
The iPhone 14 Pro Max provides 29 hours of video playback, while the Pro variant provides 24 hours of video playback.[citation needed]
Software[]
Like the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, the 14 Pro and Pro Max will ship with iOS 16.
iOS 16 on the iPhone 14 Pro supports a feature known as "Dynamic Island", which displays hardware and system-level notifications, media playback data, and other app-specific "live activities" as indicators on either side of the camera and sensor cut-outs, They are rendered on a black rounded rectangle, providing the illusion that the cut-out is expanding and contracting. For example, notifications for incoming calls appear in a banner that stretches out horizontally from the sensors, while Face ID indicators drop down vertically from the sensor cutout rather than appearing in the center of the display as on previous models. The Dynamic Island can also be tapped to view additional details; for example, ongoing activities like Maps directions or sports scores can also be expanded by tapping and holding the area.[14][13]
