The Iran Mall (Persian: ایران مال) is the biggest shopping mall in the world in terms of area[1][2] and one of the largest commercial, cultural and social projects in the world located in northwest Tehran, Iran, by Chitgar Lake.[3][4][5]

This multi-purpose complex has been designed on a land with an area of 317,000 square meters and seven floors. Its infrastructure area in the first phase is 1,350,000 square meters which will be increased to 1,600,000 square meters when all the development phases are completed.

The first phase with the capacity of 267,000 square meters of gross leasable area and 708 retail units was opened on the International Labour Day (01 May 2018).[6]

Over 1200 contractors and 25,000 workers took part in the construction of Iran Mall. Iran Mall is owned by Ayandeh Bank.[7] The original idea of building such a great complex came from the well-known Iranian entrepreneur, Ali Ansari, who has also been the chief executive of constructing Iran Mall.[8]

International Honours & Records[]

Iran Mall has attended MAPIC for three years (from 2015 to 2017) and has also been awarded by RLI as the best-anticipated shopping mall in terms of dimensions and spaces of services, culture and entertainment in 2017.[9][10]

According to Guiness World Records, the longest continuous concrete pour has been completed in Iran Mall. This record was achieved between 1st to 6th of March 2018.[11]

Traditional Bazaar[]

The traditional bazaar of Iran Mall is inspired by the markets of Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Qazvin, Qom, etc. The traditional bazaar of Iran Mall is a collection that has been designed and built on the basis of historical patterns and methods of Iranian architecture with regards to historical markets and related buildings.

This complex with the Iranian-Islamic architecture is a venue for displaying and selling handicrafts, souvenirs and products from various parts of Iran.

The centre of the bazaar is the Chahar Souq. Chahar Souq divides the bazaar into 4 sections, and each store's space is between 500 and 1000 meters. The traditional bazaar with an area of about 10,000 square meters is located in the west side of Iran Mall.

Didar Garden[]

Didar Garden's roof is 14 meters long; this roof is made of glass and it is decorated with fountains and palm trees. The design of Didar Garden, which has an area of 3000 square meters, is inspired by the architectural brick designs of central regions of Iran such as Yazd and Kashan.

Mahan Garden[]

Mahan Garden with a width of 50 meters and an approximate length of 170 meters and an area of about 16,000 square meters has been built on three floors of the first to second commercial parking on five levels. Another feature of this garden is the design of its roof structure. For the first time in Iran, membrane coatings (ETFE) have been used to cover the roof of this building.

Mirror Hall[]

One of the most prominent parts of the traditional bazaar is the Mirror Hall which is designed and implemented by the modeling of the Mirror hall of the Iranian National parliament.

This hall has a special decoration and more than 38 million pieces of mirrors have been worked in it. Exquisite carpet on the floor of the hall with an area of 126 square meters has been woven by Neyshabouri carpet weavers.

Traditional Drink Shop[]

On the south eastern side of the traditional bazaar of Iran Mall, an area of 250 square meters is devoted to traditional drink shop, which aims to provide a relaxed atmosphere for visitors and tourists with a pattern of Iranian-Islamic architectural tile.

The Library[]

The Iran Mall, offers a separate structure called the Jondishapour Library, named after Jondishapur University. The library uses earthy tones and a warm wood in its interior design to convey a sense of genuine Middle Eastern hospitality and comfort, and is built on three floors. It's equipped with more than 45,000 volumes of books, manuscripts, and documents. Separate reading studios also welcome those interested in reading books in a more secluded, private area.

Car Showroom[]

Car Showroom is located in the west of Iran Mall with the aim of showcasing the latest technology in the automotive industry. A café is located in the centre of the exhibition.

Facilities[]

Hotel[]

The luxury hotel and residences complex is currently under construction. The building, once entirely finished, will possess an area of 123,000 square meters and occupy 28 floors with 429 guest rooms, residences, and suites. The 5-star property will be equipped with a spa, multiple speciality restaurants, and a swimming pool with jacuzzi and solarium/sunbathing terrace as well as wellness facilities, a modern gym equipped with cutting-edge technological workout equipment, a sauna, and steam room. This project has been designed with an internationally known interior design and decor firm of global fame and recognition and is set to be managed by an international hospitality group under a global chain.

Multiplex Cinema[]

A cinema complex is on hand and offers 12 large movie theaters with a capacity of 1800 seats. Three VIP venues with a capacity of 17 people each are also existing. The cineplex offers an executive club lounge for VIP customers, a restaurant, and a bar.

Ice Rink[]

Iran Mall's ice rink venue on the east side of the complex, with an area of 3,600 square meters, based on olympic standards, provides an atmosphere for the guests to learn and enjoy related sports such as ice skating and ice hockey. Some of the facilities and features of this complex are as follows:

  • Skating Rink, ice hockey and demonstrative skating with an area of 1,800 square meters (based on Olympic standards).
  • Spectators Stand with a capacity of 400 persons, with 10 seats reserved for the disabled and impaired spectators.
  • VVIP stand capable of accommodating 20 persons
  • Possibility to enjoy cafés and on-site restaurants
  • Possibility to rent professional shoes and other skating equipment in various several sizes
  • Holding training courses/lessons in different levels and for different age groups in private and in groups with resident instructor
  • Multipurpose stadium (tennis, ball games, etc.)

Bowling Alley[]

The bowling recreation and sport alley is located at the rooftop level of the mall and is offering leisure facilities. The alley is modernly and attractively designed in an area of 1,800 square meters and has 16 lanes.

Visitors may utilize this car park, which is located near the bowling space and that has access to an open-air alfresco restaurant.

Sports Medicine Clinic (IFMARC)[]

The sports medicine centre of Iran Mall is intended to promote health as well as sports tourism and medical tourism as the newest and most applied type of tourism. The clinic takes up an area of 2,000 square meters and is equipped with the most modern devices for taking tests in the fields of sports health and rehabilitation of athletes and the elderly in collaboration with experienced experts and academicians in order to render services to the visitors.

Exhibition Centre[]

An Exhibition Centre has been constructed in four stories and has an area of 40,000 square meters. It is considered the first Convention Centre in Iran which provides the needed space for synergic and multi-purpose events and enjoys facilities such as a deluxe chain hotel, cultural and recreational complexes, cinema, sports and tourism facilities, coffee shops as well as local, national and international restaurants aimed at organizing various events as well as technical exhibitions at national and international levels based on high standards and modern paradigms of the exhibition industry.

Social Responsibilities[]

On 16 March 2020, for the first time in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iran Mall closed all its units and immediately set up a convalescent centre for patients with COVID-19. This convalescent centre was established in less than three days with a capacity of 3,000 beds at the Iran Mall Exhibition Centre and continued to operate for two months. The launch of this convalescent centre was widely reported in the domestic and international media.[12]

In May 2021, Iran mall vaccination centre started operating as the biggest and well-run hubs in the country at Iran mall Exhibition Centre. The centre with a capacity of injecting more than 20,000 doses of vaccine is still providing services to citizens (as of December 2021).[13]
