Name[]

The group name, Ive, stands for "I Have". The aim of the group name is to confidently show what "I have" to the audience. Instead of telling the story of a growing girl group, the group will try to portray the image of a "complete girl group".[3]

2018–2021: Pre-debut[]

Yujin and Wonyoung participated in Produce 48 in 2018, where they finished in 5th place and 1st place respectively. As two of twelve successful participants, they went on to be a part of the newly formed girl group Iz*One.[4] They promoted with the group until their disbandment on April 29, 2021.[5]

2021–present: Introduction, debut with Eleven, and Love Dive[]

On November 2, 2021, Starship Entertainment announced that they would be debuting a new girl group, the first time since WJSN in 2016.[6] The members were revealed from November 3 to 8 (in order: Yujin,[7] Gaeul,[8] Wonyoung,[9] Liz,[10] Rei,[11] and Leeseo).[12] On November 8, 2021, Starship revealed that the group will be debuting on December 1.[13] Two days later, it was announced the group will debut with the single album Eleven.[14] On December 1, 2021, the group released their debut single album, Eleven, led by the single of the same name. The group made their broadcast debut on KBS2's Music Bank on December 3 performing "Eleven".[15]

According to the chart released by Billboard dated for the week of December 14, "Eleven" ranked at number nine on the World Digital Song Sales chart and made its official debut on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts.[16] The song went on to spent 12 consecutive weeks on both the Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts proving its popularity among global fans.[17] The song also topped Billboard's Hot Trending Songs chart while also debuting at the top of the Top User Generated Songs chart of Billboard Japan, and entering on Japan Hot 100 chart; while the group enters the Artist 100.[18]

On December 8, 2021, exactly a week after debut, Ive earned their first ever music show win on MBC's Show Champion, making them the fastest girl group to win first place since debut. The song went on to win on music shows 13 times, winning triple crown on KBS2's Music Bank, MBC's Music Core, and SBS Inkigayo.[19][20] In addition, Eleven recorded the highest initial total number of album sales in its first week of release, the highest among girl group debut albums.[21] On December 27, the single rose to 4th place on Spotify's global ranking of "Viral Top 50" and peaked at #95 on the "Global Top 200" chart. On the regional chart, the song topped both the Viral Top 50 and Top 200 charts in South Korea. The song was also the most streamed song on YouTube in South Korea for five weeks, spending 12 consecutives weeks inside top three, and the group was chosen as the top cover artist on music streaming platform Tidal's K-pop Hits playlist.[22][23][24]

On March 8, 2022, the official music video for "Eleven" surpassed 100 million views on YouTube.[25] On April 5, Ive will release their second single album, Love Dive, led by the single of the same name.[26]
