Show Champion (Korean: 쇼 챔피언) is a South Korean music television program broadcast live by MBC M every Wednesday at Bitmaru Broadcasting Center in Ilsan.[1]

Segment[]

In 2013, the show's producers decided that the weekly music show would switch from pre-recorded format to a live show format. New changes to the show started with the episode on January 30, 2013.[2] Since 2015 it also has a Triple Crown system used in Inkigayo and The Show, where the song is not eligible for top 3 anymore after winning three times.[citation needed]

Start from July 14, 2021; Show Champion reveal the scores like every other show in their website, instead of just announce winners. The tracking time is also revealed, it's from Monday to Sunday (9 days prior to 3 days prior). Pre-voting is from Thursday to Sunday (6 days prior to 3 days prior)

Hosts[]

Astro's Sanha and Moonbin (pictured) have co-hosted Show Champion with Verivery's Kangmin since March 2020.

Chart point system[]

Prior 2013, the program selected the top 10 of the week and the chart winner by combining the following:

  • 45% digital sales (Melon)
  • 10% physical sales (Hanteo)
  • 15% ranking from netizens
  • 15% ranking from professionals in the music industry
  • 15% points on MBC Music broadcast

The song at the top of chart earned the title “Champion Song”. On the other hand, the star with the hottest issue was named as “Issue Champion”, while the best rookie was called “Rookie Champion”. The feature “Rookie Survival” gained particular attention because the audience was able to give scores during the live broadcast.[4]

On September 4, 2012, the program was reorganized and the chart ranking system was abolished.

In 2013, the show underwent another reorganization, which resulted in the resurrection of the "Champion Song" ranking system with new criteria starting from January 30.

  • 50% digital sales (streaming + downloads)
  • 15% online voting (Melon)
  • 20% physical sales (Hanteo)
  • 15% ranking from professionals and expert judges (MBC Music)

In 2017, the show underwent another change of chart point system, with the new criteria below.

  • 40% Digital
  • 10% Album
  • 20% Melon Online Voting
  • 15% Ranking from expert and professional judges
  • 15% Broadcast[5]

From 2018 until 2020, the criteria for the chart point system was as below:

  • 20% Idol Champ Pre-voting
  • 20% Genie Pre-voting
  • 10% MBC Music Broadcast
  • 10% Critics' Choice
  • 10% Album Sales

From 2020 to July 7, 2021 the criteria for the chart point system was as below:[6]

  • 50% Digital and Album
