Jahaijar Char

Jahaijar Char, also known as Swarno Dwip, is an inhabited Island in the Bay of Bengal. It is a part of the Hatiya Upazila of Noakhali District in Bangladesh.

History[]

On 8 March 2013, the Government of Bangladesh handed over the island to Bangladesh Army to develop and tackle piracy. The army has since developed the infrastructure of the island. The army has since eliminated piracy in the island and planted more than 60 thousand trees. The island also hosts a Bangladesh Army armored training ground.[1][2]
