Jaipal Singh Stadium is a multi-purposed stadium located in the city of Ranchi in Jharkhand. The stadium was built in 1978 and was named after famous hockey player and captain Jaipal Singh Munda after a request was made by Birsa Seva Dal.[1]

Since the stadium was built, it was neglected for its sporting infrastructure but in 2013 Government of Jharkhand and Ranchi Municipal Corporation made plan to revamp the stadium into sports complex with aid from Central Government of India.[2]

In 2008, a proposal came from urban development minister Raghubar Das to make a site of stadium into shopping complex but the plan was opposed by residents and sports lovers as well as Councillor. Sport lovers and residents also created Jaipal Singh Stadium Bachao Sangharsh Samit to save the stadium.[3]

In the most recent proposal in 2013, the stadium will under-go changes and will have football ground, tennis court, badminton court, multi-gym, two pavilions, open-air theatre, food court and shops. Gym will have all the modern equipment as well as two pavilions for the players and football ground will be 300 meters long and 150 meters wide.[4]
