James (Jim) H. Merrill was a Republican politician. He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 99th District, serving from 2001 to 2017.[1]

He was suspended from office in 2016 after being indicted on ethics charges and resigned on August 31, 2017.[2][3] he ultimately pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor count for not reporting otherwise lawful income. The other charges were dismissed and expunged and the solicitor stated in court that Merrill's work was legitimate.[4]
