James Riffel (born October 7, 1961 in New Jersey, United States) is an American film director and screenwriter. He has directed three feature films: The Dead Come Home, Black-Eyed Susan, and Mass of Angels in addition to a series of parody films and documentaries.

Night of the Day of the Dawn series[]

He wrote and directed a series of spoof parody films known as Night of the Day of the Dawn series (also known as NOTDOT) of which he has made five but released four.

Part 1 remains obscure and as yet unreleased as it was done at a public access station where Riffel used a set of student films he had made at New York University, as well as video footage, super 8 home movies, and some other materials. These were edited over the course of a few days. It was never released and according to Riffel can be found "back at my parents' house at the bottom of one of the closets".[1][unreliable source?]

Part 2 was released first and became the most well-known. Titled Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D, a 1991 horror spoof.[2][3] The movie where he used an alias name, Lowell Mason, was created by redubbing the 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead with comedic dialog, and by adding new clips. Although it was originally distributed to only 500 video stores in the United States, the film has since achieved cult status.[citation needed] With 42 words in its title, 164 characters without spaces, it is cited as the movie with the longest English language title,[4]

The sequels are Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 3 was a redubbing of The Brain That Wouldn't Die, part 4 only available online but not on DVD was Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 4 overdubbing on a 1932 film, The Most Dangerous Game.

In 2011, he released Night Of The Day Of The Dawn Of The Son Of The Bride Of The Return Of The Revenge Of The Terror Of The Attack Of The Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating, Crawling, Alien, Zombified, Subhumanoid Living Dead - Part 5, redubbing vintage television episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and Bonanza. This was a 50-minute film with a tight budget and film was used to promote charities.

He won "best director" award during 2004 Pocono Mountains Film Festival held in Tannersville, Pennsylvania for his film and Grand Jury Award for the same film during "dead CENTER Film Festival" in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He also received in 2004 the Jury Award for his film Black-Eyed Susan during the Garden State Film Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA.[5]
