Jitendra Satish Awhad is an Indian Politician and Cabinet Minister for Housing, Government of Maharashtra and former guardian minister of Solapur district. He is also member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra, India. He represents the Mumbra-Kalwa constituency of Thane city as a Nationalist Congress Party member in the Vidhan Sabha (lower house).[1] He has previously served as Cabinet Minister of Medical Education and Horticulture in the Government of Maharashtra.[2]

Personal life[]

Awhad belongs to Vanjari caste and he follows Hinduism; He was served the Post as President of Maharashtra Youth Congress before formed of Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party and after He was appointed as First National President of Nationalist Youth Congress and Ranjitsinh Vijaysinh Mohite Patil as President of Maharashtra Pradesh Nationalist Youth Congress and Rajiv Jha appointed as First National President of Nationalist Students Congress as well as Pankaj Thackeray appointed as President of Maharashtra Pradesh Nationalist Students Congress [3][4][5]

Controversy[]

In April 2020, Awhad was involved in an incident where an engineer was beaten up in his bungalow.[6] The victim claimed that Awhad's men took him away on a false pretext and thrashed him for allegedly posting a morphed photo.[7] On Twitter, Avhad called him a pervert and accused him of bullying.[8] Awhad was widely criticized by leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party[9][10] and demanded his resignation from state ministry,[citation needed] but Awhad also received support from others.[11][12] Awhad also received multiple online death-threats.[13] On March 9,Thane Police arrested five people in connection with the alleged assault.[14]
