Joaquim Alvaro Pereira Leite (born in Palmeiras de Goiás on June 8, 1975) is a Brazilian politician. He was appointed, on June 23, 2021, Brazil's Environment Minister in the Jair Bolsonaro Government. This occurred on the same day that the Diário Oficial da União announced the dismissal by Bolsonaro of Ricardo Salles,[1][2] following the opening of a judicial investigation against his minister for illegally exporting Amazonian timber.[3]
Joaquim Alvaro Pereira Leite was until then responsible for the Amazon and Environmental Services Secretariat at the Ministry of the Environment.[4]
Indigenous Territory of Jaraguá[]
Joaquim's family is involved in a lawsuit against the indigenous people and against the protection of the Jaraguá Indigenous Territory in the city of São Paulo.[5] Documents indicate that there has been a fixed presence in this place of the Guaranís since the 1940s.[6]
