John Madejski Academy is an 11-19 years old academy in Reading, Berkshire, England. JMA is part of the White Horse Federation Trust.

Mrs Louise Baker became Principal of JMA in September 2020.

JMA had an Ofsted school inspection in January 2020 which says ‘The academy is improving because teachers’ expectations of pupils in all year groups are rising. Many pupils and parents agree that the school is better than in the past.’

JMA’s last full Ofsted visit was in October 2019 which says ‘ The elite sports and performing arts programme enables pupils to pursue their creative or sporting ambitions.’ This inspection also recognises that ‘ rapidly improving teaching is leading to much better outcomes for pupils’.

JMA offers a broad and ambitious curriculum including Tech , Textiles, IT, History, Geography, Drama, Sport, PSHE, Art, Science, English and Maths.

History[]

The academy was officially established on 1st September 2006 following the closure of its 11-16 predecessor, Thamesbridge College.[1] Thamesbridge College was previously known as Ashmead School.[2][3] It was officially opened by Tony Blair on 5th December 2007.[4][5]

The new buildings were opened in 2010, with Sir John Madejski cutting the ribbon.

In 2017, Madejski described financing the academy as "his proudest achievement".[6]

Architecture[]

The building was designed by international architecture firm Wilkinson Eyre[7] and it was shortlisted for an award at the World Architecture Festival 2008.[8]
