Kana Kanmani is an Indian Malayalam language soap opera premiered on 23 August 2021 aired on Surya TV. It stars Vindhuja Vikraman and Jay Kartik in lead roles along with M. B. Padmakumar, Ann Mathews and Revathi Krishna in supporting roles. It is a remake of Telugu television series Pournami that aired on Gemini TV.

The story revolves around Meera (Vindhuja) who loses her mother after her birth causing her father to hate her. How she manages to win her father's love forms the crux of the story.

Plot[]

The story revolves around an innocent elder daughter Meera, the protagonist of the show, who has been waiting for years to get the love of her father. All that she wishes for and wants in life is her father's love. However, she is fortunate enough as she only gets unconditional love from her stepmother who treats her as her own flesh and blood. But what will happen when Gautham enters her life? Will she fall in love with him or will it be a roller-coaster ride of her life?

  • Vindhuja Vikraman as Meera Mahadevan:[2] Radhika and Mahadevan's daughter. Her ultimate dream is receiving the affections of her father who hates her and views her as a misfortune. She has romantic feelings for Gautham. (2021–present)
  • Jay Kartik as Gautham: An aspiring entrepreneur. He is Meera's lover who has vowed to protect her family and help her win her father's heart. (2021–present)
  • M. B. Padmakumar as Mahadevan: Meera's father and late Radhika's husband. He is a successful businessman who hates his daughter as he blames her birth as the reason for his wife's death. Although, he loves his second daughter Preethi from his second marriage with Yamuna. (2021–present)
  • Ann Mathews as Yamuna Mahadevan: Mahadevan's second wife and Preethi's mother. She is a loving mother who raised Meera as her own daughter. (2021–present)
  • Revathi Krishna as Preethi Mahadevan: Mahadevan and Yamuna's daughter. She is Meera's step-sister who loves and supports her through thick and thin. Had romantic feelings for Gautham in the past but later moved on realising his interest was directed towards her sister. (2021–present)

Production[]

The show is an official remake of Telugu show Pournami.[4] Actress Vindhuja Vikraman was roped in to play the female lead, Meera.[5] Debutant Jay Kartik played the male lead Gautham. Actor-director M. B. Padmakumar was cast as Meera's father, Mahadevan.[6] Ann Mathews, Revathi Krishna, Mahesh and Karthika Kannan plays other important roles. Priya Prince reprised her role, Swapna from the Tamil remake Kannana Kanne.[7] Dr Aishwarya Warrier was replaced with Geetha Nair as Mahadevan's mother Saraswathy. Sangeetha Sivan joined the show as a replacement to Mahima playing the negative role of Rajeshwari. Notable film actors K. R. Vijaya and Abhirami played extended cameos while Rahul Ravi, Haritha G Nair and Dhanya Mary Varghese made episodal appearances.
