Keizō Murase (村瀬継蔵, Murase Keizō, born 5 October 1933 in Hokkaido, Japan[1]) is a Japanese suitmaker and film director. He is particularly well known for his work in giant monster films, including Mothra (1961), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), and The Mighty Peking Man (1977).

Career[]

In 1958, when Toho hired him to help sculpt the suit of the titular monster for Varan the Unbelievable,[2] his career began and continues to this day with the film Howl from Beyond the Fog.[3] An amateur photographer, Murase extensively documented his work published in the 2015 book, Monster Maker: Keizo Murase - Treasured KAIJU Photobook.[4] After working for Daiei Film on Gamera, he, Masao Yagi, and Toru Suzuki founded the modelling company, Ex Productions, which he left in 1972 to form his company, Twenty.[4]
