The farm that gave its name to the village
Kirkenær is the administrative centre of Grue municipality, Innlandet county, Norway. Its population (2005) is 1,252.
History[]
The place is named after the Kirkenær farm and is located in the middle of Solør.
In 1822, the Grue church fire occurred in the area of Kirkenær. It was major fire catastrophe where at least 113 people perished. When the railway arrived in 1893, a new settlement grew up around the railway station.
