Klim Alekseevich Shipenko (Russian: Клим Алексеевич Шипенко; born 16 June 1983)[1] is a Russian film director, screenwriter, actor and producer.

Career[]

Filming in outer space[]

In 2021, Shipenko is planning to shoot portions of a science fiction film aboard the International Space Station. It is to be the second narrative film shot in space, and first feature film shot in space. The project is tentatively called The Challenge (Russian: Вызов, romanizedVyzov, lit.'Challenge'), and will be shot between the launch of Soyuz MS-19 and return of Soyuz MS-18 in space. The first narrative film, a short film, filmed in outer space was Apogee of Fear, in shot 2008. It is in a race with Tom Cruise and Doug Liman to shoot the first narrative feature film in space.[2][3][4][5][6] On the ISS Shipenko will be in charge of camera, lighting, sound recording and makeup.[7] The filming equipment was launched at Progress MS-18.[8] Pyotr Dubrov and Mark Vande Hei will help with filming.[9] Participants in the joint project between Roscosmos and Channel One, film director Klim Shipenko and actress Yulia Peresild, who will fly with Anton Shkaplerov, have been included in the ISS expedition prime crew.[10]
