Kristyn Elizabeth Rebekah Getty (née Lennox, born 22 May 1980 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a Northern-Irish singer, songwriter, recording artist, worship leader and voice actress. With her husband, Keith Getty, she has co-written many award-winning songs and hymns which have charted on multiple Billboard charts and been nominated for various awards. Her unique vocal sound has led to duets with artists including Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Heather Headley, Chris Tomlin, Trip Lee, Michael W Smith, Moya Brennan, Ricky Skaggs and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The Getty hymns are used increasingly both in contemporary and traditional circles, being included in most modern hymnbooks (with a number of these now listing "Getty" as the most-featured composers), while in the more contemporary church, more than 60 of their songs[1] are featured on top 2,000[2] CCLI charts between the UK and USA.

Keith and Kristyn Getty have created the Getty Music record label (which holds 6 Dove award nominations[3] and 1 Dove Award Win[4] and is distributed by Capitol Christian Distribution), built various print publishing partnerships and imprints, and produced unique merchandise containing their hymn lyrics.

Kristyn together with her husband has written and produced a number of children's worship albums.

Evensong: Hymns and Lullabies at the Close of Day went to Billboard number 1 in 2020[5]

TV and special appearances[]

The couple has also appeared on national television (CBS, PBS, BBC), most notably on Public Television (PBS) in 2015 to 45 + million homes with their Christmas Music special, Joy—An Irish Christmas[6], in 2021 for BBC Northern Ireland “At home with the Getty’s”[7] and a TBN in 2019 special filmed live at the world famous Grand Ole Opry House.[8]

In 2017, the hymn writers performed for US Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Second Lady Karen Pence at the Vice President's residence.[9] In addition the couple have performed for President George W Bush, The United Nations, South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak and selected to perform for the Enthronement [10] of the Archbishop of Canterbury and for former UK Prime Minister[11] Theresa May.

They have appeared and performed at numerous events and tours internationally in top venues including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Pentagon, the Grand Ole Opry, the John F. Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts and the Houses of Parliament.

Awards[]

The song, "In Christ Alone" received BBC Songs of Praise number 3 on the top 10 charts in 2019,[12] was number 1 for more than 15 years on the [13]CCLI- UK charts and the CCLI-US top 20 for more than 13 consecutive years.[14] The British Hymn Society named "In Christ Alone" as one of the top 5 Hymns of all time.[15]

According to CCLl, "In Christ Alone" ranks as the No.1 most-sung song in U.K. churches,[16] and the 8th most-sung song in North American churches. Written by Townend and Getty 15 years ago, the song was also sited as the 9th "best loved hymn" in the UK according to a survey conducted by the BBC's "Songs of Praise" programme.[17]

Keith and Kristyn were both named fellows in 2019 of The Royal School of Church Music.[18]

The album North Coast Sessions received a Dove award in 2019 for Inspirational Album of the Year.[19]

A number of Getty Music Albums have been nominated for a Dove Award:

  • The album Hymns for the Christian Life was also nominated for a Dove award in 2013.

  • Elizabeth (with Ellie Holcomb) – Roots/Americana Song of the Year (2020)[24]

Evensong, Kristyn's album of Hymns and Lullabies to help people through the Coronavirus pandemic hit number one on USA Billboard Children's Album Charts, knocking Frozen off [25] the number one spot for the first time.

40 of the Getty Music song titles have been in the top 500 CCLI charts in the US or UK last year.[26]
