Kyrylo Yevhenovych Shevchenko (Ukrainian: Кирило Євгенович Шевченко; born October 25, 1972) is a Ukrainian banker and the Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.[2] He is the former chairman of the board of the state-owned Ukrgasbank (2014—2020).

Education and career[]

September 1987 — August 1989, Shevchenko worked as repairmen at the Illich mine in Kadiivka, Luhansk Oblast.[2]

In 1994 Shevchenko graduated from Kharkiv State Economic University with a diploma in economics.[2]

March 1995 — September 1995, leading economist at Aval Bank.[3]

October 1995 — December 2006, he made a career in Finance and Credit bank, having occupied the position of the first deputy chairman of the Board.[2]

December 2006 — May 2009, head of the State Mortgage Institution.[4][5][2]

May 2009 — September 2009, adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko.[6][2]

In 2010, Kyrylo Shevchenko together with his business partner, First Deputy Minister of Finance during the Azarov administration Vadym Kopylov, bought the now liquidated Terra Bank.

From April 14th, 2010 to April 11th, 2011 he was the CEO of Terra Bank. Shevchenko had changed his position on April 28th, 2011, becoming the Supervisory Board Chairman until April 6th, 2012, when the partners sold Terra Bank to structures linked to Ruslan Tsyplakov, a close friend of Viktor Yanukovych's sons.[7]

September 2009 — April 2010, first deputy chairman of the management board of .[2]

May 2012 — August 2014, advisor to the chairman of the board of state-owned bank Oschadbank.[2]

October 2014 — May 2015, acting chairman of the board of Ukrgasbank.[8]

May 28, 2015 — July 16, 2020, chairman of the board of Ukrgasbank.[9][3]

In 2017, Kyrylo Shevchenko together with the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak presented the first in Ukraine environmentally friendly payment card made entirely of bio-raw materials. The manufacturer of the new payment cards is the German company Giesecke & Devrient.[10][11][12]

National Bank of Ukraine[]

On July 16, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) appointed Kyrylo Shevchenko the Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.[13][14][15]

Right after his appointment, Shevchenko appointed Olexandr Prysyazhniyk, as the NBU's Head of Executive Office.[16]

On July 22nd, 2020, former deputy minister of finances Yuriy Heletiy became a deputy head of NBU.[17][18]

Private life[]

Shevchenko is married and has a daughter.[2]
