LEAP Legal Software, commonly referred to as LEAP, is company that develops software for the legal profession across practice management, publishing and financial services, as well as client and lawyer collaboration tools.[1] LEAP Legal Software provides a cloud-based legal practice management software known as LEAP,[2] to law firms in Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and New Zealand.[3] LEAP is used by more than 61,000 users worldwide[4] and is developed by LEAP Dev.[5] In 2016, LEAP Legal Software generated $50 million in annual revenue.[6] It employs more than 300 employees worldwide.[6]

LEAP is a privately held company headquartered in Sydney, Australia, with additional offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.[7] LEAP expanded to the UK and US markets in 2014[8] and 2015.[9] Presently, LEAP has offices in Toronto, New Jersey, Twickenham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Brighton, Dublin and Kraków.[10]

History[]

LEAP Legal Software was created in 1992 by Christian Beck, who felt that lawyers’ workflow could be improved using technology.[11] In 2008, LEAP acquired LegalPax, a provider of automated forms and precedents to law firms in Queensland.[12] In the beginning of 2010, LEAP launched a cloud software called LEAP Expedite.[13] It also purchased BING! Software, a family law precedents business.[14] LEAP Office 10 was launched at the NSW State Legal Conference in August 2010.[15] In 2012, LEAP Expedite was replaced with a rewritten cloud product.[13]

LEAP 365 was the first software-as-a-service legal application for the Australian market.[16] LEAP 365 was released for the UK and US markets at an event at Yankee Stadium on September 12, 2016.[14]

LEAP Legal Software's flagship product is LEAP. The key features of LEAP include[17] a client and contact database, document assembly and management, automated matter types and forms, file sharing, time recording, and billing and trust accounting tools.
