"Lady Like" is a song recorded by American country music singer Ingrid Andress. It was released on October 5, 2020 as third single from her debut studio album of the same name. Andress co-wrote the song with Sam Ellis and Derrick Southerland, and produced it with Ellis.

Background[]

This song was originally released in February 2019, until it was re-released as a single in October 2020.[1][2] Andress told to CMT the song's mean: "One night, I was flirting with a guy and brought up politics because there is so much happening in the world, thinking he would be impressed. He actually shut me down immediately and was very uninterested for the rest of the evening. But I’m very glad that happened, because the next day I went into the studio with my friends Derrick and Sam, and we wrote ’Lady Like.’ That specific story is in the song now for obvious reasons."[3]

Music video[]

The first music video was released on March 8, 2019, and directed by Emma Higgins. It depicts Andress performing tasks similar to those at a boarding school and manspreading at a poker game afterwards.[4]

The second music video was released on March 11, 2021, and directed by Lauren Dunn. The video emphasizes Andress's personality, and encourages people all over the world trying to show yourself.[5]

Andress told Nylon the inspiration of the video: "A lot has happened in the two years since I put “Lady Like” out, and I wanted my fans to be able to see where I’m at now as a human. I’ve become very into the idea of self expression through fashion, and I wanted the video to have a more visuals of what “breaking stereotypes” looks like to me. The pandemic gave me a lot of time to think about what this song means to me, and I’ve realized it’s about so much more than just my personal experience. It’s everyone’s.."[6]

Commercial performance[]

"Lady Like" reached number 39 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart dated July 3, 2021.[7] On September 10, 2021, the song obtained RIAA Gold certification.[8] The song was additionally registered on the Flemish Ultratip chart.[9]
