Lectionary 184, designated by siglum 184 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering) is a Greek manuscript of the New Testament, on parchment. Westcott and Hort labelled it by 39e,[1] Scrivener by 259e.[2] It is dated by a colophon to the year 1319.[3]

Description[]

The codex contains Lessons from the Gospels of John, Matthew, Luke lectionary (Evangelistarium).[1] Part of the first leaf (John 1:11-13) is on paper and was supplied by later hand.[2] It is written in Greek minuscule letters, on 248 parchment leaves (30 cm by 22.5 cm), in two columns per page, 27-28 lines per page.[3] According to Gregory it has "good text".[1]

It is remarkable for its departures from the received text, and for that reason was often cited by Tischendorf, Alford,[2] and Aland on the Gospels. It contains text of Luke 22:43-44 but with doubtful mark.

In Matt 23:38 word ερημος omitted like in Codex Vaticanus, Codex Regius, ff2, syrc, copsa, bomss.[4]

In Luke 14:5 it reads υἱὸς ὑμῶν (as mss. , ) for υἱὸς ἢ βοῦς (45, 75, B, W, Δ, 28, 565, 700);[5]

In John 6:1 it reads της θαλασσης της Τιβεριαδος for της θαλασσης της Γαλιλαιας της Τιβεριαδος, the reading of the codex is supported by 0210, , 1344, 2174;[6]

History[]

The manuscript once belonged to Charles Burney, along with codices 480, 481, 482, 484, and 485.[7]

It was examined by Scrivener and Gregory. Scrivener gave its collation in 1852 (along with the codex 183).

The manuscript is cited in the critical editions of the Greek New Testament (UBS3,[8] UBS4[9]).

Currently the codex is located in the British Library (Burney 22) at London.[3]
