Kamen Rider Gaim (仮面ライダー鎧武(ガイム), Kamen Raidā Gaimu)[a] is a Japanese tokusatsu drama in the Kamen Rider Series, written by Gen Urobuchi. Kota Kazuraba must use his newfound powers as the titular hero to battle the mysterious Inves monsters as well as other rival Kamen Riders, all known as "Armored Riders" (アーマードライダー, Āmādo Raidā), in what is described by the show as a "Rider Sengoku Period" (ライダー戦国時代, Raidā Sengoku Jidai).[citation needed] Characters are aligned with each other as members of dance crews, or Beat Riders, and various organizations.

Team Gaim[]

Team Gaim (チーム鎧武, Chīmu Gaimu) is one of many dance teams in Zawame, identified by their Happi-themed modern outfits and logo.

Kota Kazuraba[]

Kota Kazuraba (葛葉 紘汰, Kazuraba Kōta) is an earnest and cheerful yet naïve and short-sighted young adult who wants to help others, but sometimes ends up causing more trouble than good. He was originally the second-in-command of Team Gaim before quitting the team to pursue odd jobs and help his older sister, Akira, after their parents died, before eventually getting a job at Drupers. However, his life is changed after Team Gaim's leader Yuya Sumii arranges a meeting with Kota to show him something that could help their team. This leads Kota to search for Yuya in what he later learns is the Helheim Forest, finding a Sengoku Driver that his friend bought from the mysterious Lockseed Dealer Sid, and an Inves that Kota manages to destroy via the Driver and a Lockseed. While figuring out how best to use his newly acquired powers, Kota witnesses his rival, Kaito Kumon's, summoned Inves go on a rampage and becomes determined to protect people as Armored Rider Gaim, aka Kamen Rider Gaim. After he rejoins Team Gaim in the apparently missing Yuya's stead, Kota inspires others to become Armored Riders themselves.

With help from his friend Mitsuzane Kureshima, Kota eventually discovers Sid works for the Yggdrasil Corporation, who is running an experiment involving the Armored Riders. He also attempts to manage the public's prejudice against the Beat Riders and Zawame's dance teams after they are framed for the invading Inves' infectious properties, during which he learns the truth of Helheim, Yggdrasil's goals, and that the first Inves he killed was actually Yuya. While processing all of this, Kota also learns of the Inves Overlords before he is approached by DJ Sagara, who advises him to shatter the rules Yggdrasil is following in order to change the world for the better. Kota manages to convince the head of Yggdrasil's R&D branch and Mitsuzane's brother, Takatora Kureshima, that they can save the world from the Inves without sacrificing human lives. After sustaining grievous injuries while combating the Overlord Dēmushu's invasion and a sudden attack from Yggdrasil's forces, Kota is again visited by Sagara, who gives him the Kiwami Lockseed. The former uses his newly enhanced power to fight back against the remaining Overlords, though he slowly becomes one himself.

After saving Mitsuzane from the Yomotsuheguri Lockseed and killing a similarly Overlord-empowered Kaito for possession of the Golden Fruit, Kota evolves into the blonde-haired Man of the Beginning (始まりの男, Hajimari no Otoko). Not wanting to destroy Earth nor rule it as it is, he uses his god-like power to transport all of the Inves and Helheim to a barren world at the far end of the universe, where he and a similarly evolved Mai Takatsukasa intend to create new life. Seven months later, Kota returns to help Mitsuzane defeat Kogane and the Locust Monster before reconciling with his friend and returning to his new world.

Kota utilizes the Sengoku Driver (戦極(センゴク)ドライバー, Sengoku Doraibā) belt in conjunction with the Lockseeds (ロックシード, Rokkushīdo) to transform into Kamen Rider Gaim. While transformed, he is armed with the katana-like Musou Saber (無双セイバー, Musō Seibā, Supreme Saber) pistol sword and utilizes fruit-themed armor and weapons called Arms Weapons (アームズウェポン, Āmuzu Wepon), which he can alternate between via Arms Changes (アームズチェンジ, Āmuzu Chenji). Gaim's forms are as follows:

  • Orange Arms (オレンジアームズ, Orenji Āmuzu): Gaim's primary form accessed via the Orange (オレンジ, Orenji) Lockseed that arms him with the Daidaimaru (大橙丸, Great Orange Circle) sword,[b] which he can combine with the Musou Saber into the latter weapon's Naginata Mode (ナギナタモード, Naginata Mōdo). In this form, he can perform one of three finishers: Burai Kick (無頼キック, Burai Kikku) via the Sengoku Driver, Daidai Ittō (大橙一刀, Daidai Ittō, Big Orange Strike) via the Daidaimaru, or Naginata Musou Slicer (ナギナタ無双スライサー, Naginata Musō Suraisā, Naginata Supreme Slicer) via the Musou Saber in its Naginata Mode.
  • Pine Arms (パインアームズ, Pain Āmuzu): An auxiliary form accessed via the Pine (パイン, Pain) Lockseed that arms Gaim with the Pine Iron (パインアイアン, Pain Aian) meteor hammer, which he can combine with the Musou Saber into the latter weapon's Kusarigama Mode (鎖鎌モード, Kusarigama Mōdo). His finisher in this form is the Iron Breaker (アイアンブレイカー, Aian Bureikā).
  • Ichigo Arms (イチゴアームズ, Ichigo Āmuzu, Strawberry Arms): An auxiliary form accessed via the Ichigo (イチゴ, Ichigo, Strawberry) Lockseed that arms Gaim with multiple Ichigo Kunai (イチゴクナイ, Ichigo Kunai, Strawberry Kunai) throwing knives. His finisher in this form is the Kunai Burst (クナイバースト, Kunai Bāsuto).
  • Suika Arms (スイカアームズ, Suika Āmuzu, Watermelon Arms): A mecha-like form accessed via the Suika (スイカ, Watermelon) Lockseed that possesses three different forms: Ōdama Mode (大玉モード, Ōdama Mōdo, Big Ball Mode), which envelops Gaim in an armored watermelon that he can roll around in; Yoroi Mode (ヨロイモード, Yoroi Mōdo, Armor Mode), which transforms into a giant powered suit and arms him with two Suika Sōjintō (スイカ双刃刀, Suika Sōjintō, Watermelon Double-Blade Sword) swords that can combine into a double-bladed weapon; and Gyro Mode (ジャイロモード, Jairo Mōdo), a flight-capable form armed with machine gun-like weapons.
  • Wizard Arms (ウィザードアームズ, Wizādo Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the Wizard (ウィザード, Uizādo) Lockseed that arms Gaim with Kamen Rider Wizard's WizarSwordGun. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle.
  • One Arms (1号アームズ, Ichigō Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the Shōwa Rider (昭和ライダー, Shōwa Raidā) Lockseed, which grants Gaim the use of any one of the fifteen Shōwa Riders' powers, such as Kamen Rider One. This form appears exclusively in the film Heisei Riders vs. Shōwa Riders: Kamen Rider Taisen feat. Super Sentai.
  • Fresh Orange Arms (フレッシュオレンジアームズ, Furesshu Orenji Āmuzu): An unique, sparkling version of Orange Arms accessed via the Fresh Orange (フレッシュオレンジ, Furesshu Orenji) Lockseed that arms Gaim with two Daidaimarus and grants him the ability to perform stronger versions of his regular finishers. This form appears exclusively in the Hyper Battle DVD special Kamen Rider Gaim: Fresh Orange Arms Is Born! ~You Can Also Seize It! The Power of Fresh~.
  • Banana Arms: An auxiliary form accessed via the Banana Lockseed that arms Gaim with the Banaspear. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider Gaim: Great Soccer Battle! Golden Fruits Cup!.
  • Durian Arms: An auxiliary form accessed via the Durian Lockseed that arms Gaim with the Duri Noko. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider Gaim: Great Soccer Battle! Golden Fruits Cup!.
  • Donguri Arms: An auxiliary form accessed via the Donguri Lockseed that arms Gaim with the Donkachi. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider Gaim: Great Soccer Battle! Golden Fruits Cup!.
  • Drive Arms (ドライブアームズ, Doraibu Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the Drive (ドライブ, Doraibu) Lockseed that arms Gaim with Kamen Rider Drive's Handle-Ken sword. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle.

By replacing his Sengoku Driver's Rider Indicator (ライダーインジケーター, Raidā Injikētā) faceplate with the Genesis Core (ゲネシスコア, Geneshisu Koa), Gaim can mix the powers of his Orange Lockseed with an Energy Lockseed, producing a set of Jimber (ジンバー, Jinbā)[c] armor that grant various enhanced abilities and use of the Sonic Arrow.

  • Jimber Lemon Arms (ジンバーレモンアームズ, Jinbā Remon Āmuzu): Gaim's primary Jimber form accessed via the Orange and Lemon Energy Lockseeds that grants general enhanced capabilities.
  • Jimber Cherry Arms (ジンバーチェリーアームズ, Jinbā Cherī Āmuzu): An auxiliary Jimber form accessed via the Orange and Cherry Energy Lockseeds that grants superhuman speed.
  • Jimber Peach Arms (ジンバーピーチアームズ, Jinbā Pīchi Āmuzu): An auxiliary Jimber form accessed via the Orange and Peach Energy Lockseeds that grants enhanced hearing, but renders Gaim vulnerable to sonic attacks.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider Gaim: Great Soccer Battle! Golden Fruits Cup!, Kogane brainwashes Kota and grants him the ability to transform into Kamen Rider Gaim Yami Black Jimber Arms (ブラックジンバーアームズ, Burakku Jinbā Āmuzu) via the Black Orange (ブラックオレンジ, Burakku Orenji) and Black Lemon Energy (ブラックレモンエナジー, Burakku Remon Enajī) Lockseeds and a Genesis Core.

Using the Kachidoki (カチドキ, Triumph) Lockseed, Kota can transform into Kamen Rider Gaim Kachidoki Arms (カチドキアームズ, Kachidoki Āmuzu, Triumph Arms).[d] In this form, he gains increased armor and is armed with the Hinawadaidai-DJ-Ju (火縄大橙DJ銃, Hinawa Daidai Dī Jei Jū, Matchlock Large Orange-DJ-Gun) tanegashima, which he can combine with the Musou Saber into the former weapon's Taiken Mode (大剣モード, Taiken Mōdo, Great Sword Mode), and the Kachidoki Bata (カチドキ旗, Triumph Flag) banners. He can also perform one of two finishers: Kachidoki Charge (カチドキチャージ, Kachidoki Chāji, Triumph Charge) via the Hinawadaidai-DJ-Ju in its Gun Mode (銃モード, Jū Mōdo) or Hinawadaidaimusouzan (火縄大橙無双斬, Hinawadaidaimusōzan, Matchlock Great Orange Unrivaled Slash) via the Hinawadaidai-DJ-Ju in its Taiken Mode.

By inserting the Kiwami (極 (きわみ), Extreme) Lockseed into the Kachidoki Lockseed's key slot, Gaim can transform from Kachidoki Arms into Kiwami Arms (極アームズ, Kiwami Āmuzu, Extreme Arms). In this form, his power rivals that of an Overlord's and he can summon any of his fellow Armored Riders' weapons or access their Lockseed powers for his own use. After becoming the Man of the Beginning, Kota can transform directly into Kamen Rider Gaim Kiwami Arms without a Sengoku Driver or Lockseed.

Additionally, Kota has access to different Lock Vehicles (ロックビークル, Rokku Bīkuru) via flower-themed Lockseeds.

  • Sakura Hurricane (サクラハリケーン, Sakura Harikēn): His first and personal motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle accessed via the corresponding Lockseed.
  • Dandeliner (ダンデライナー, Danderainā): An auxiliary hoverbike-esque Lock Vehicle accessed via the corresponding Lockseed.

Kota Kazuraba is portrayed by Gaku Sano (佐野 岳, Sano Gaku). As a child, Kota is portrayed by (鳥居 颯, Torii Hayate).

Mitsuzane Kureshima[]

Mitsuzane Kureshima (呉島 光実, Kureshima Mitsuzane) is a member of Team Gaim nicknamed "Micchy" (ミッチ, Mitchi) by the others. A smart yet manipulative youth, he initially conceals his familial relation to his older brother Takatora and upbringing from his friends as well as his Beat Rider activities from his brother. Despite going to an elite school, Mitsuzane wishes to follow his own path rather than follow in his brother's footprints and inherit their father's company. After Kota is nearly killed by Kamen Rider Zangetsu, Mitsuzane convinces Sid to give him a Sengoku Driver so he can become Team Gaim's second Armored Rider, Kamen Rider Ryugen (仮面ライダー龍玄, Kamen Raidā Ryūgen).[e] Upon discovering Takatora is Zangetsu, Mitsuzane initially resolves to uncover the truth behind the Yggdrasil Corporation's ties to the Helheim Forest.

However, his desire to protect his friends, Kota Kazuraba and Mai Takatsukasa, from the truth and discovery of what happened to Yuya Sumii leads Mitsuzane to help Takatora conceal information on the Helheim Forest instead. Admiring Kota's earnestness while disagreeing with his ideals and methods, the young Kureshima starts to become disillusioned with him, believing he is making Mai sad by telling her everything he knows of Yggdrasil and the Helheim Forest. After Mai slaps him for taking his frustrations out on Kota, Mitsuzane becomes unhinged and starts to see Kota as a threat to Mai and their friends. In an attempt to kill Kota, Mitsuzane allows Takatora's head scientist Ryoma Sengoku to betray his brother so Mitsuzane can disguise himself as Zangetsu and destroy the partnership Takatora had formed with Kota as well as form an alliance with Sid to obtain the Forbidden Fruit. Following Sid's death however, Mitsuzane forms a new alliance with the Overlord Redyue, becoming the latter's proxy to save Mai and the human race. Upon realizing Kota continues to fight due to his hope, Mitsuzane reveals his hatred to him before seemingly killing Takatora and placing Mai in the Overlord Roshuo's care amidst the Overlords' invasion of the human world.

When Mai falls ill due to the Forbidden Fruit inside her, Mitsuzane blames Kota and accepts the Yomotsuheguri[f] Lockseed from Ryoma despite its fatal side effects. Transforming into Kamen Rider Ryugen Yomi (仮面ライダー龍玄・黄泉, Kamen Raidā Ryūgen Yomi), Mitsuznae attempts to kill Kota, but the latter feigns defeat to save him from the Lockseed as Kota still considers him a friend. Mitsuzane also learns that Ryoma used him to extract the Forbidden Fruit from Mai before destroying Taktatora's Genesis Driver. Going into hiding, a depressed Mitsuzane accepts his role in Mai's apparent death before finding Takatora's comatose body, which the elder Kureshima recovers from three months later.

Seven months after the Forbidden Fruit evolved Kota and Mai and they took the Inves from Earth, Mitsuzane and Takatora take on new lives, though the former continues to refuse his friends' offers to join their unified Beat Rider group. After the Locust Monster and Kogane attack Zawame, Mitsuzane joins his friends in fending them off before Kota returns to aid them further and reconcile with Mitsuzane, who rejoins his Beat Rider friends and goes on to live a peaceful life.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle, Mitsuzane and his friends discover Mai was captured by the alien Megahex, who intends to assimilate Earth using the Forbidden Fruit's power and killed Kota. To combat the enemy, Mitsuzane retrieves a Sengoku Driver so Takatora can become Zangetsu again and aid them further. After saving Mai and tricking Megahex into reviving Kota, the latter and the Kureshimas join forces to fight off the alien until they encounter the android Cyberoid ZZZ, who Megahex absorbs to become ZZZ Megahex. Using his increased power, he creates artificial Inves and Roidmudes to stop the Riders. However, the Armored Riders receive assistance from Kamen Riders Drive and Baron, Mashin Chaser, and the Roidmudes Heart and Brain in destroying ZZZ Megahex.

During the events of the V-Cinema Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Knuckle, Mitsuzane graduates from high school and plans to assist his brother at work. However, the Kureshimas discover members of the Yggdrasil Corporation are producing and selling mass-produced Sengoku Drivers on the black market. Together, the brothers work to stop the criminals.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Budou (ブドウ, Budō, Grape) Lockseed, Mitsuzane can transform into the Chinese warrior-themed Kamen Rider Ryugen Budou Arms (ブドウアームズ, Budō Āmuzu, Grape Arms). While transformed, he is armed with the Budou Ryuhou (ブドウ龍砲, Budō Ryūhō, Grape Dragon Cannon) gun, with which he can perform the Dragon Shot (ドラゴンショット, Doragon Shotto) finisher, and possesses a Rose Attacker Lockseed, which can transform into the titular motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle. Like Kota, Mitsuzane also possesses additional Lockseeds that grant unique Arms Changes and Weapons, which are as follows:

  • Kiwi Arms (キウイアームズ, Kiui Āmuzu): An auxiliary form accessed via the Kiwi (キウイ, Kiui) Lockseed that arms him with the Kiwi Gekirin (キウイ撃輪, Kiui Gekirin, Kiwi Attack Wheels) wind and fire wheels, with which he can perform the Spinning Hoop (スピニングフープ, Supiningu Fūpu) finisher.
  • W Arms (W(ダブル)アームズ, Daburu Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the W (ダブル, Daburu) Lockseed that arms Mitsuzane with Kamen Rider W's Trigger Magnum. This form appears exclusively in the film The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle.
  • Pine Arms: An auxiliary form accessed via the Pine Lockseed that arms Mitsuzane with the Pine Iron. This form appears exclusively in the Hyper Battle DVD special Kamen Rider Gaim: Fresh Orange Arms Is Born! ~You Can Also Seize It! The Power of Fresh~.
  • Jimber Dragon Fruits Arms (ジンバードラゴンフルーツアームズ, Jinbā Doragon Furūtsu Āmuzu): A stronger form accessed via the Grape Lockseed, Dragon Fruits Energy Lockseed, and a Genesis Core that arms Mitsuzane with the Sonic Arrow. This form appears exclusively in the Kamen Rider Gaim tie-in novel of the same name.

Utilizing the Yomotsuheguri (ヨモツヘグリ) Lockseed, Mitsuzane can transform into Kamen Rider Ryugen Yomi Yomotsuheguri Arms (ヨモツヘグリアームズ, Yomotsuheguri Āmuzu).[g] While transformed, he can summon any of his previous forms' weapons as well as those of the Overlords.

Mitsuzane Kureshima is portrayed by Mahiro Takasugi (高杉 真宙, Takasugi Mahiro). As a child, Mitsuzane is portrayed by (松田 北斗, Matsuda Hokuto) in the TV series and (西岡 航, Nishioka Wataru) in Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu.

Mai Takatsukasa[]

Mai Takatsukasa (高司 舞, Takatsukasa Mai) is a member of Team Gaim who originally worked as a shrine maiden at the Takatsukasa Shrine as a child before the Yggdrasil Corporation tore it down as part of their redevelopment plans for Zawame. Having learned to dance in her youth, Mai believes her transition into a Beat Rider does not affect her ideals as she tries to teach the others how to dance better, becoming an older sister-like figure to them. She is particularly hard on Kota, though only because she is secretly in love with him. She also finds a kindred spirit in Kaito, another person whose childhood was ruined by the Yggdrasil Corporation.

Despite being warned by a mysterious, white-haired doppelgänger of herself to leave Zawame, Mai chooses to stay regardless, though a chain of events eventually leads to her meeting Roshuo, who places humanity's Forbidden Fruit inside her body. As a result, she falls ill and enters a death-like sleep after Ryoma extracts the fruit from her. However, Sagara communicates to Mai via her subconscious and completes her transformation into the doppelgänger she encountered, aka mankind's "Maiden of Fate" (運命の巫女, Unmei no Miko). Learning she possesses the ability to travel through time, Mai attempts to warn herself and her friends in the past of their impending fates. However, she is unable to speak directly, instead being forced to speak in cryptic riddles and tell the Armored Riders to fight for their own destinies. Sagara later explains that her actions in the past, including her attempts to avert the future, produced a bootstrap paradox that ensures everything unfolds as it does to place her in her current situation as well as ensure the final battle between Kota and Kaito always takes place. Once the former wins the fight, Mai gives him the Forbidden Fruit and assumes her role as the Woman of the Beginning (始まりの女, Hajimari no Onna) before departing with him and the Inves to a new planet. Seven months later, she briefly returns to Earth to visit Kaito's spirit and ensure he is at peace before leaving once again.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle, Kamen Rider Bujin Gaim targets the Maiden, but mistakes Mai for her future self and kidnaps her instead. The Maiden herself appears before the Armored Riders to grant them the power to defeat Bujin Gaim.

Mai Takatsukasa is portrayed by Yuumi Shida (志田 友美, Shida Yūmi). As a child, Mai is portrayed by (佐伯 栞, Saeki Shiori).

Chucky[]

Chucky (チャッキー, Chakkī) is a tomboy member of Team Gaim and one of its best dancers. During the Inves' invasion, she provides medical assistance. Three months after the Inves are taken from Earth, Chucky joins the other Beat Riders in forming a combined dance troupe.

Chucky is portrayed by (津山 香音, Tsuyama Kanon).

Rica[]

Rica (リカ, Rika) is a member of Team Gaim who is not as good as Chucky, but makes up for it by encouraging her friends. Three months after the Inves are taken from Earth, Rica joins the other Beat Riders in forming a combined dance troupe.

Rica is portrayed by (横田 美菜, Yokota Miina).

Rat[]

Rat (ラット, Ratto) is a member of Team Gaim who prefers flashy performances and often manages to bring up the team's mood after losses despite pushing his luck too far at times. After sustaining injuries while protecting Rica from the Bixie Inves, he is temporarily hospitalized and released shortly afterward after testing negative for the Inves infection. Three months after the Inves are taken from Earth, Rat joins the other Beat Riders in forming a combined dance troupe.

Rat is portrayed by Ren Ozawa (小澤 廉, Ozawa Ren).

Yuya Sumii[]

Yuya Sumii (角居 裕也, Sumii Yūya) is the former leader of Team Gaim who went missing in Helheim Forest after obtaining a Sengoku Driver from Sid. When Kota and Mai stumble into Helheim Forest in search of Yuya, they find his Sengoku Driver before the White Tiger Inves (ビャッコインベス, Byakko Inbesu) attacks them. It follows them into the human world, where Kota transforms into Kamen Rider Gaim and destroys the Inves. Weeks later, while accessing the Yggdrasil Corporation's database, Mitsuzane learns that the White Tiger Inves was actually Yuya, who had transformed after he ate a Helheim Fruit. Though Mitsuzane tries to protect him from the truth, Kota is horrified once he learns that he unknowingly killed his friend before eventually making peace with the revelation.[1]

Yuya Sumii is portrayed by (崎本 大海, Sakimoto Hiromi).

Team Baron[]

Team Baron (チームバロン, Chīmu Baron) is a rival team to Team Gaim, dressed in long black and red coats. While their leader Kaito is firmly against cheating, some of his fellow group members are prone to secretly doing so during Inves Games to increase their ranks until Kaito learns of what they have done.

Kaito Kumon[]

Kaito Kumon (駆紋 戒斗, Kumon Kaito) is the brooding leader of Team Baron who bears a strong hatred towards the Yggdrasil Corporation, who bought out his father's construction company as part of their redevelopment plans for Zawame. As a result, Kaito grew up in a poor household, his father became abusive towards him and his mother, and both of his parents eventually committed suicide, leading to the orphaned Kaito falling into the Takatsukasa family's care. This childhood cemented a survival of the fittest-like mentality in his later years and fostered a personal desire to acquire power for himself as he believes he cannot trust anyone else. Despite this, he maintains a strong sense of honor, refusing to lie or cheat to attain his goals, and secretly caring for his team members' safety as well as that of children.

After seeing Kota Kazuraba transform into Armored Rider Gaim and due to Kaito's perceived misuse of Kota's powers, Kaito receives his own Sengoku Driver and the Banana Lockseed from the Lockseed Dealer Sid. The next day, Kaito challenges Kota and becomes Team Baron's Armored Rider, Kamen Rider Baron (仮面ライダーバロン, Kamen Raidā Baron), to show the latter how he believes power should be used. Following this, Kaito forms an alliance with the Beat Rider groups Team Raid Wild, Team Invitto, Team Pop Up (チームPOP UP, Chīmu Poppu Appu), Team Soten (チーム蒼天, Chīmu Sōten), and Team Red Hot to battle Team Gaim, with the intention of using them as pawns and backup dancers. However, the alliance is eventually broken after Raid Wild and Invitto break off to form their own. After being captured by Yggdrasil, Kaito learns of their secret activities and steals a mass-produced Sengoku Driver for his second-in-command Zack's use before leaving Team Baron to take on the company himself. During this quest, Kaito learns of the Overlords and Yggdrasil's true agenda from their scientist Ryoma Sengoku. Livid at the corporation's conduct yet welcoming of the Helheim Forest's invasion, Kaito aids Ryoma in locating the Overlord Dēmushu and goes on to battle the latter several times.

When Dēmushu launches the Overlords' invasion, Kaito rallies Zawame's Armored Riders and leads them into battle in order to obtain more power. After being wounded by the Overlord Redyue however, he slowly begins to mutate into the Overlord-like Lord Baron (ロード・バロン, Rōdo Baron). Once the transformation is complete, Kaito kills Ryoma before facing Kota in a final battle, in which Kaito is eventually killed. Seven months later, his spirit has come to rest at a sacred tree.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle, the alien Megahex uses his powers and Kota's memories to create a replica of Kaito to serve him. However, believing itself to be the real version, it attacks the alien instead and aids the Armored Riders in defeating Megahex before deactivating as a result.

Kaito utilizes the Sengoku Driver and the Banana (バナナ) Lockseed to transform into the medieval knight-themed Kamen Rider Baron Banana Arms (バナナアームズ, Banana Āmuzu). While transformed, he can perform the Cavaliend (キャバリエンド, Kyabariendo) finisher and wields the Banaspear (バナスピアー, Banasupiā) lance, with which he can perform the Spear Victory (スピアビクトリー, Supia Bikutorī) finisher. Like the other Armored Riders, Kaito also possesses additional Lockseeds that grant unique Arms Changes and Weapons, which are as follows:

  • Mango Arms (マンゴーアームズ, Mangō Āmuzu): An auxiliary form accessed via the Mango (マンゴ) Lockseed that arms him with the Mango Punisher (マンゴパニッシャー, Mango Panisshā) morning star, with which he can perform the Punish Mash (パニッシュマッシュ, Panisshu Masshu) finisher.
  • Suika Arms: A mecha-like form accessed via the Suika Lockseed that arms him with a large watermelon slice-like spear.
  • OOO Arms (オーズアームズ, Ōzu Āmuzu): A unique form accessed via the OOO (オーズ, Ōzu) Lockseed that arms Kaito with Kamen Rider OOO's Medajaribur. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle.

  • Ringo Arms: A unique form accessed via the Forbidden Ringo Lockseed that arms him with the Apple Reflector and the Sword Bringer. This form appears exclusively in the V-Cinema, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Baron.

As Lord Baron, Kaito is armed with the Guronbaryamu (グロンバリャム, "Baron" in the Overlord language) longsword and possesses Overlord-esque abilities, such as creating Crack portals and being able to manipulate the Helheim Forest's flora.

Additionally, Kaito has access to different Lock Vehicles via flower-themed Lockseeds.

  • Rose Attacker (ローズアタッカー, Rōzu Attakkā): His personal motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle accessed via the corresponding Lockseed.
  • Dandeliner: An auxiliary hoverbike-esque Lock Vehicle accessed via the corresponding Lockseed.

Zack[]

Zack (ザック, Zakku) is a member of Team Baron who originally serves as Kaito's second-in-command and interim leader in his absence. Formerly a member of Team Severe Beat sometime prior to the series, they were defeated by Team Baron and Zack chose to defect, going on to develop a firm loyalty to him. After stealing a mass-produced Sengoku Driver while in the Yggdrasil Corporation's custody, Kaito entrusts it and leadership of Team Baron to Zack, who goes on to become Kamen Rider Knuckle (仮面ライダーナックル, Kamen Raidā Nakkuru).

Amidst Dēmushu's invasion, Zack intended to sacrifice himself to save Zawame until Kota defeats the Overlord. After Kaito transforms into an Overlord himself, Zack seemingly remains by his side while secretly working to save his former leader from himself. Receiving a bomb from Oren Pierre Alfonso, Zack attempts to use it to kill Kaito, but the latter's ally Yoko Minato sacrifices herself to take the blast in his place. In response, Kaito fights Zack and eventually defeats him, destroying his Rider equipment and severely injuring him in the process. Three months later, a recovering Zack supports his Beat Rider friends as they form a unified group.

During the events of the V-Cinema, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Knuckle, Zack transfers leadership duties to his teammate Peko so he can travel to New York and participate in an international dance contest. However, Peko's sister Azami calls and tells him that former Team Baron member Shura has returned to seek revenge. Zack returns to Zawame, sacrificing his chance to be in the competition in the process, and receives new Rider equipment from Peko and Mitsuzane Kureshima so he can defeat Shura.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Kurumi (クルミ, Walnut) Lockseed, Zack can transform into the squire-themed Kamen Rider Knuckle Kurumi Arms (クルミアームズ, Kurumi Āmuzu, Walnut Arms). While transformed, he is armed with the Kurumi Bomber (クルミボンバー, Kurumi Bonbā, Walnut Bombers) gauntlets, which increase his punching capabilities. Like the other Armored Riders, Zack also possesses additional Lockseeds that grant unique Arms Changes and Weapons, which are as follows:

  • Suika Arms: A mecha-like form accessed via the Suika Lockseed that arms Zack with boxing glove-like constructs.
  • Jimber Marron Arms (ジンバーマロンアームズ, Jinbā Maron Āmuzu): A stronger form accessed via the Kurumi Lockseed, Marron Energy (マロンエナジー, Maron Enajī) Lockseed, and a Genesis Core that arms Zack with the Marron Bomber (マロンボンバー, Maron Bonbā) gauntlets. This form appears exclusively in Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Knuckle.

Zack is portrayed by Gaku Matsuda (松田 岳, Matsuda Gaku).

Peko[]

Peko (ペコ) is a member of Team Baron who is loyal to Kaito yet willing to engage in underhanded tactics to aid his team. After Kaito leaves Team Baron and Zack takes over leadership as Kamen Rider Knuckle, Zack provides combat support to the latter. Amidst the Inves' invasion, Zack attempts to stop Mitsuzane from kidnapping Mai Takatsukasa, but is nearly killed by an Overlord, forcing Mai to leave with Mitsuzane. When Kaito becomes an Overlord himself, Zack tasks Peko with making contact with Oren Pierre Alfonso to help defeat Kaito before Peko helps evacuate Zawame under the direction of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Three months after the Inves are taken from Earth, Peko joins his fellow Beat Riders in forming a unified group.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider Gaim: Great Soccer Battle! Golden Fruits Cup!, an alternate universe version of Peko obtains a Genesis Driver and the Matsubokkuri Energy (マツボックリエナジー, Matsubokkuri Enajī, Pinecone Energy) Lockseed, both of which he uses to transform into Kamen Rider Kurokage Shin Matsubokkuri Energy Arms (仮面ライダー黒影・真 マツボックリエナジーアームズ, Kamen Raidā Kurokage Shin Matsubokkuri Enajī Āmuzu, Pinecone Energy Arms). While transformed, he is armed with the Kagematsu Shin (影松・真, True Shadow Pine) spear.

Peko is portrayed by (百瀬 朔, Momose Saku).

Ryoji Hase (初瀬 亮二, Hase Ryōji) is the leader of Team Raid Wild (チームレイドワイルド, Chīmu Reido Wairudo), whose members all dress in black and yellow. He initially refuses to join Team Baron's alliance until he is defeated by the group's leader Kaito Kumon's summoned Inves and Kota Kazuraba as Armored Rider Gaim, both of which convince him to do so. However, Ryoji later changes his mind, forms a separate alliance with Team Invitto's leader Hideyasu Jonouchi, and acquires a Sengoku Driver so he can transform into Kamen Rider Kurokage (仮面ライダー黒影, Kamen Raidā Kurokage, Black Shadow).

While aiding Mitsuzane Kureshima in an attempt to draw out Kamen Rider Zangetsu, Ryoji loses his Sengoku Driver to the latter, the remains and data of which the Yggdrasil Corporation use to make mass produced versions and allow their privately owned soldiers to become Kurokage Troopers. Powerless, Ryoji's alliance with Hideyasu dissolves and Raid Wild abandons him following a loss to Team Baron. Furthermore, Ryoji also starts suffering hallucinations of being attacked by Inves and Zangetsu, which leads him to equate the Helheim Forest's fruits with power and eat one. Mutating into the Bixie Inves (ヘキジャインベス, Hekija Inbesu), he overpowers the Armored Riders until he is killed by Kamen Rider Sigurd despite Kota's attempts to save Ryoji.

During the events of the web-exclusive special, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo, Ryoji's spirit appears before Hideyasu and stops him from eating a Helheim fruit, which the former transforms into the Lychee Lockseed so Hideyasu can use that instead.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Matsubokkuri (マツボックリ, Pinecone) Lockseed, Ryoji can transform into the ashigaru-themed Kamen Rider Kurokage Matsubokkuri Arms (マツボックリアームズ, Matsubokkuri Āmuzu, Pinecone Arms). While transformed, he is armed with the Kagematsu (影松, Shadow Pine) yari and possesses a Sakura Hurricane Lockseed, which can transform into the titular motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle.

Ryoji Hase is portrayed by Atsushi Shiramata (白又 敦, Shiramata Atsushi).

Hideyasu Jonouchi[]

Hideyasu Jonouchi (城乃内 秀保, Jōnouchi Hideyasu) is the cowardly leader and sole male member of Team Invitto (チームインヴィット, Chīmu Invitto), whose other members consist of girls. He initially joins Team Baron's alliance until he learns its leader Kaito Kumon only formed it to use the other members as pawns. In response, Hideyasu joins forces with Ryoji Hase of Team Raid Wild and obtains the means to transform into Kamen Rider Gridon (仮面ライダーグリドン, Kamen Raidā Guridon), but quickly becomes known as the weakest of the Armored Riders due to his lack of combat prowess and saddled with what he considers the worst name out of all the Riders as it is simply an anagram of the Japanese word for "acorn".

Following a failed attempt to defeat Kamen Rider Zangetsu and Raid Wild's disbandment, Hideyasu cuts ties with Ryoji and goes to Oren Pierre Alfonso in the hopes of forming a new alliance. While he is forcibly employed as an assistant pâtissier instead, Hideyasu considers it a mixed blessing as he no longer has to fight the other Armored Riders. Amidst the Inves' invasion, he finds his fighting spirit while protecting Oren from one such monster and joins his fellow Armored Riders in fending off the invaders, having received combat training during his time with Oren. Despite losing his Rider equipment to Kaito and Yoko Minato near the end of the invasion, Hideyasu joins the Japan Self-Defense Forces' efforts to evacuate Zawame.

Three months after the Inves are taken from Earth, Hideyasu continues to work for Oren. Having also learned of Ryoji's death, he briefly feels guilty for what happened until Oren assures him there was nothing he could have done and all he can do now is move on. A further four months later, Armored Rider Jam attacks Zawame. Hideyasu responds by using a mass-produced Sengoku Driver and fighting the enemy as a Kurokage Trooper in Ryoji's memory.

As of the web-exclusive special, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo, Hideyasu took over ownership of Oren's pastry shop, Charmant, and became a full-fledged pâtissier.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Donguri (ドングリ, Acorn) Lockseed, Hideyasu can transform into Kamen Rider Gridon Donguri Arms (ドングリアームズ, Donguri Āmuzu, Acorn Arms). While transformed, he wields the Donkachi (ドンカチ) war hammer and possesses a Rose Attacker Lockseed, which can transform into the titular motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle.

During the events of Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo, Hideyasu receives a new Sengoku Driver from Takatora Kureshima and a Lychee (ライチ, Raichi) Lockseed from Ryoji's spirit, both of which he uses to transform into Kamen Rider Gridon Lychee Arms (ライチアームズ, Raichi Āmuzu). In this form, he wields an upgraded version of the Donkachi called the Shine Donkachi (シャインドンカチ, Shain Donkachi) and the Shine Lychee Sword (シャインライチソード, Shain Raichi Sōdo).

Hideyasu Jonouchi is portrayed by Ryo Matsuda (松田 凌, Matsuda Ryō).

Sonomura[]

Sonomura (曽野村) is the leader of Team Red Hot (チームレッドホット, Chīmu Reddo Hotto), whose members wear red, flame-themed clothing. Motivated by fame and freedom, he acquires a Sengoku Driver and the Durian Lockseed from the Lockseed Dealer Sid to challenge the other Beat Riders. However, he loses the equipment to Oren Pierre Alfonso. When the Beat Riders are framed for the Inves's infectious properties, Sonomura and his team take advantage by stealing Lockseeds and using them to summon Inves to help them commit robberies. When they are confronted by Kota Kazuraba, Sonomura uses a Lockseed to summon a Lion Inves, but the device shorts out and the monster nearly kills him until Kota destroys it.

Sonomura is portrayed by (北代 高士, Kitadai Takashi).

Oren Pierre Alfonso[]

Oren Pierre Alfonso (凰蓮・ピエール・アルフォンゾ, Ōren Piēru Arufonzo), born Gennosuke Oren (凰蓮 厳之介, Ōren Gennosuke), is an effeminate and muscular Parachute Regiment veteran who spent a decade in France to become a pâtissier and went on to become the owner of the Charmant (シャルモン, Sharumon) pastry shop in Zawame City. Expressing distaste towards the Beat and Armored Riders for destroying art and being amateurs in combat, Oren confiscates Sonomura's Rider equipment so he can join the fray and show them how a true fight is meant to be fought as Kamen Rider Bravo (仮面ライダーブラーボ, Kamen Raidā Burābo).

Amidst his battles with the Armored Riders, Oren falls in love with Kamen Rider Zangetsu and joins the Yggdrasil Corporation as an enforcer amidst the Inves' outbreak, gaining the adoration of Zawame's citizens while the Beat and Armored Riders were being framed for the Inves' infectious properties. Oren also forcibly hires Hideyasu Jonouchi after the latter attempts to form an alliance with him and launches a smear campaign against the Beat and Armored Riders to demonize them further until Hideyasu tells him they had nothing to do with the Inves.

After the Overlord, Dēmushu, leads more Inves in an invasion of Zawame, Oren allies himself with the Armored Riders to fight off the monsters and reveals Mitsuzane Kureshima's deception while the youth was posing as Zangetsu after identifying his different fighting style. During the invasion's closing stages, Oren loses his Rider equipment to Lord Baron and is forced to evacuate Zawame by the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Three months later, he resumes his work at Charmant with Hideyasu as his apprentice and helps the latter come to terms with his friend Ryoji Hase's death.

During the events of the web-exclusive special, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo, Oren hands his pâtissier duties and ownership of Charmant to Hideyasu so he can retire and become a mercenary, only to be hired by Takatora Kureshima to investigate his former apprentice after learning Hideyasu is seemingly using deadly Helheim fruits in his pastries. After receiving new Rider equipment and while confronting Hideyasu however, Oren is brainwashed by Masako Suzuka and goes on a rampage until Hideyasu defeats him, freeing him from her control. Oren reconciles with his apprentice before Hideyasu carries him home.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Durian (ドリアン, Dorian) Lockseed, Oren can transform into the iron maiden/gladiator-themed Kamen Rider Bravo Durian Arms (ドリアンアームズ, Dorian Āmuzu). While transformed, he wields the chainsaw-like Duri Noko (ドリノコ, Dori Noko, Durian Saws) broadswords and possesses a Sakura Hurricane Lockseed, which can transform into the titular motorcycle-esque Lock Vehicle.

While under Masako's influence during Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo, Oren uses the King Durian (キングドリアン, Kingu Dorian) Lockseed in the Sengoku Driver to transform into Kamen Rider Bravo King Durian Arms (キングドリアンアームズ, Kingu Dorian Āmuzu). In this form, he wields an upgraded version of the Duri Noko called the Giga Duri Noko (ギガドリノコ, Giga Dori Noko, Giga Durian Saws).

Oren Pierre Alfonso is portrayed by Metal Yoshida (吉田 メタル, Yoshida Metaru).

"DJ Sagara"[]

"DJ Sagara" (DJサガラ, Dī Jei Sagara) is the immortal embodiment of the Helheim Forest's will whose task is to observe and hasten evolution and see the future unfold in terms of who can obtain the Helheim Forest's power, the Golden Fruit, believing that one must shine to be remembered by others. He initially appears as a supporter of the Yggdrasil Corporation, operating as the DJ of a pirate radio station and host of the Beat Riders Hotline internet show to promote the Inves Games, and setting up much of Zawame City's Beat Riders (ビートライダーズ, Bīto Raidāzu) and Armored Riders.

After Yggdrasil creates the New Generation Riders and deems the Armored Riders useless to their agenda, Sagara begins to show an interest in Kota Kazuraba and secretly helps him fight back against the company. As the series progresses, Sagara slowly reveals his true nature and agenda to certain individuals. After Kota and Mai Takatsukasa are transformed by the Golden Fruit's power and take the Inves and Helheim Forest to another planet, a surprised Sagara accepts Kota's wish and departs for another world to repeat the cycle.

DJ Sagara is portrayed by Tomomitsu Yamaguchi (山口 智充, Yamaguchi Tomomitsu).

Akira Kazuraba[]

Akira Kazuraba (葛葉 晶, Kazuraba Akira) is Kota's older sister. Following their parents' deaths, she takes on an office job at an Yggdrasil Corporation-affiliated company. After learning her brother became Armored Rider Gaim, she becomes protective of him, though she comes to understand that he has his own desires and advises him on how best to use his abilities for the good of others. Unbeknownst to Akira, she is targeted by her employers, who seek to make Kota give up his Rider powers.

After Akira's workplace is downsized, Kota works to find a new job to support her and himself. However, she is captured by the Overlord, Redyue, among other humans, to be used as a battery for a machine meant to revive the Overlord Roshuo's queen. However, Kota's friends manage to save the prisoners. Amidst the Overlords' invasion and Kota's gradual transformation into an Overlord himself, Akira tries her best to continue supporting her brother until the Japan Self-Defense Forces force her to evacuate Zawame City. Seven months after Kota takes the Inves away from Earth, she bonds with Takatora Kureshima over their relationships with their little brothers.

Akira Kazuraba is portrayed by Rika Izumi (泉 里香, Izumi Rika).

Yggdrasill Corporation[]

The Yggdrasill Corporation Company Ltd. (ユグドラシルコーポレーション, Yugudorashiru Kōporēshon) is a powerful multinational conglomerate and research organization largely dedicated to stopping the Helheim Forest from overrunning the Earth. After detecting a high frequency of Crack portals in Zawame City, the company established the Yggdrasil Tower around the city's "sacred tree" for research purposes, disguising their true agenda by using their expertise in several fields and socioeconomic aspects of city-dwelling to redevelop Zawame to prevent widespread panic amongst the populace. Due to their omnipresence however, many of Zawame's citizens feel as if they are living in a "jōkamachi (城下町, castle town)" rather than a bustling city. Yggdrasil also establishes the Inves Games and the Armored Riders to further their research and draw attention away from it as well as create weapons to repel Helheim's inhabitants.

While the company finds a way to stop the Helheim Forest's flora over the course of the series, they only succeed in delaying a global extinction event by 10 years. Complicating matters, scientist Ryoma Sengoku exposes the company's secrets as part of his own plans, resulting in many of Yggdrasil's employees resigning en masse, the company itself being labeled a terrorist organization, and eventually becoming defunct.

Three months after Helheim is taken from Earth near the series finale, the Yggdrasil Tower has long since been torn down, with its absence giving way to new life for Zawame while the company is repurposed into the Zawame Restoration Bureau (沢芽市復興局, Zawame-shi Fukkōkyoku), which is dedicated to undoing Yggdrasil's effects on Zawame City. Despite this, several rogue members of Yggdrasil became involved in the black market.

After acquiring sufficient data on the Armored Riders, several high-ranking members of Yggdrasil receive the Genesis Driver (ゲネシスドライバー, Geneshisu Doraibā) belt, which utilizes Energy Lockseeds and a Genesis Core (ゲネシスコア, Geneshisu Koa) to transform them into New Generation Riders (新世代ライダー, Shin Sedai Raidā), who are all armed with bladed bows called Sonic Arrows (ソニックアロー, Sonikku Arō).

Takatora Kureshima[]

Takatora Kureshima (呉島 貴虎, Kureshima Takatora) is Mitsuzane's older brother and a project leader in the Yggdrasil Corporation's Research and Development branch. A realist who is willing to commit morally dubious acts for the greater good of humanity, he has a bad habit of trusting the dishonest and dearly loves his younger brother, desiring for him to do well in school so he can join the family business one day. Years prior to the series, Takatora proved instrumental in testing early prototypes for the Sengoku Driver. Despite experiencing setbacks that left him physically scarred, he eventually gained the means to become Kamen Rider Zangetsu (仮面ライダー斬月, Kamen Raidā Zangetsu)[h] to combat the Helheim Forest's Inves.

Throughout his efforts to stop Helheim, Takatora oversees Project Ark, which involves sacrificing most of humanity to save the remaining population. After developing the Genesis Drivers and becoming Kamen Rider Zangetsu Shin (仮面ライダー斬月・真, Kamen Raidā Zangetsu Shin), he deems the Armored Riders have outlived their purpose and moves to eliminate them. However, Takatora learns Mitsuzane became an Armored Rider behind his back and shows his brother the ruins of a civilization that Helheim used to be to sway him to his side and help him save the world. Takatora also shows Mitsuzane's friend Kota Kazuraba the ruins in an attempt to crush his spirit, seeing similar ideals that Takatora embodied as a youth. However, Kota only becomes more determined to fight back against Yggdrasil and Helheim.

Following an encounter with the Overlord, Dēmushu, Takatora sees an alternative method for saving the Earth without having to sacrifice human lives and allies himself with Kota to achieve this. However, he is betrayed by his friend and Yggdrasil scientist Ryoma Sengoku, who was secretly aided by Mitsuzane, and left for dead without his Rider equipment in Helheim. Takatora is found and nursed back to health by the Overlord Roshuo, who gives him a Sengoku Driver so he can safely feed on the Helheim plants, learns more about the Overlords, and realizes Ryoma is after the Forbidden Fruit. Upon returning to his world, he follows the Armored Riders during their raid on Yggdrasil and discovers Mitsuzane had also betrayed him. Takatora obtains his original Rider equipment and transforms into Zangetsu to battle his brother as Zangetsu Shin, but hesitates, allowing Mitsuzane to counterattack, destroying his brother's Rider equipment and causing Takatora to fall into a nearby river to his apparent death. Following Kota's departure from Earth months later, Takatora's comatose body was found and taken to the hospital. While in a coma for three months, he dreams of Kota forgiving him for his past actions and asking him to help Mitsuzane. A further four months later, having since come out of his coma, Takatora lives out a new life.

During the events of the V-Cinema, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu, which takes place after he showed Kota the Helheim ruins, Takatora finds himself questioning his resolve in seeing Project Ark through. However, he is forced to investigate a mysterious Armored Rider who has been attacking his company's employees and Mitsuzane around the same time his childhood friend Tōka Akatsuki returned to his life and his father Amagi Kureshima died, supposedly of illness. Soon realizing that all three events are connected, he finds an abandoned childcare center his father built and is horrified to discover that Amagi had been using orphans, including Tōka, as guinea pigs for Yggdrasil. Furthermore, she had become the mysterious Rider to pursue revenge and kill Amagi, as well as everyone involved in her torture. Takatora begs her to stop, but is eventually forced to fight her, though he ultimately spares her in light of their friendship. This would go on to contribute to Takatora siding with Kota and sharing his ideals of saving the world without sacrificing anyone.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle, which takes place after the series, Takatora joins the Zawame Restoration Bureau's leadership. When the alien Megahex invades Earth, Takatora obtains a new Sengoku Driver and Genesis Driver so he can join the Armored Riders in their efforts to repel the alien as Zangetsu and Zangetsu Shin.

During the events of the V-Cinema, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Knuckle and the Kamen Rider Gaim tie-in sequel novel of the same name, both of which take place after the series, Takatora and Mitsuzane discover Yggdrasil's remnants operating in black market crimes and join forces to stop them.

Utilizing the Sengoku Driver and the Melon (メロン, Meron) Lockseed, Takatora can transform into Kamen Rider Zangetsu Melon Arms (メロンアームズ, Meron Āmuzu). While transformed, he wields the Melon Defender (メロンディフェンダー, Meron Difendā) shield, which he can use in a boomerang-like fashion, as well as a Musou Saber like Kamen Rider Gaim. Like the other Armored Riders, Takatora also possesses additional Lockseeds that grant unique Arms Changes and Weapons, which are as follows:

  • Fourze Arms (フォーゼアームズ, Fōze Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the Fourze (フォーゼ, Fōze) Lockseed that arms him with Kamen Rider Fourze's Rocket Module. This form appears exclusively in the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle.
  • Mango Arms: An auxiliary form accessed via the Mango Lockseed that arms Takatora with the Mango Punisher. This form appears exclusively in the Hyper Battle DVD special Kamen Rider Gaim: Fresh Orange Arms is Born! ~You Can Also Seize It! The Power of Fresh~.
  • Watermelon Arms (ウォーターメロンアームズ, Wōtāmeron Āmuzu): An unique form accessed via the Watermelon (ウォーターメロン, Uōtāmeron) Lockseed, a prototype of the Suika Lockseed, that arms him with the hybrid Watermelon Gatling (ウォーターメロンガトリング, Wōtāmeron Gatoringu) shield/gun. This form appears exclusively in Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu.
  • Kachidoki Arms: A stronger form accessed via the Shin Kachidoki (シン・カチドキ, True Triumph) Lockseed that arms Takatora with a white-colored version of the Hinawadaidai-DJ-Ju called the Hinawatenka-DJ-Ju (火縄甜瓜DJ銃, Hinawa Tenka Dī Jei Jū, Matchlock Sweet Melon-DJ-Gun) and the Kachidoki Bata. This form appears in the stage play sequel Kamen Rider Zangetsu: Gaim Gaiden and the web-exclusive special Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Gridon vs. Kamen Rider Bravo.
  • Suika Arms: A mecha-like form accessed via the Suika Lockseed. This form appears exclusively in the Kamen Rider Gaim tie-in novel of the same name.

Utilizing a Genesis Driver and the Melon Energy (メロンエナジー, Meron Enajī) Lockseed, Takatora can transform into Kamen Rider Zangetsu Shin Melon Energy Arms (メロンエナジーアームズ, Meron Enajī Āmuzu). In the tie-in novel Kamen Rider Gaim, he replaces his Sengoku Driver's Rider Indicator with his Genesis Core to mix the powers of his Melon and Melon Energy Lockseeds so he can transform into Kamen Rider Zangetsu Jimber Melon Arms (ジンバーメロンアームズ, Jinbā Meron Āmuzu).

Takatora Kureshima is portrayed by Yuki Kubota (久保田 悠来, Kubota Yūki). As a teenager, Takatora is portrayed by (上田 晟人, Ueda Akito) in the TV series and (竜跳) in Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu.

Sid[]

Lock Dealer Sid (錠前ディーラー シド, Jōmae Dīrā Shido) is one of Takatora Kureshima's subordinates who aids him by selling Lockseeds and Sengoku Drivers to the Beat Riders for the Inves Games. While he works for Yggdrasil, Sid's intentions are dubious at best as he is willing to aid various parties and withhold information on Mitsuzane Kureshima from Takatora. Prior to the series, Sid was part of a group of drug dealers who were suddenly attacked by Inves while they were in Zawame City. He survived the attack after being saved by Ryoma Sengoku and recruited into Yggdrasil.

Once the Genesis Drivers are developed and the Beat Riders serve their purpose, Sid is given the means to transform into Kamen Rider Sigurd (仮面ライダーシグルド, Kamen Raidā Shigurudo) so he can eliminate them before they threaten Yggdrasil's plans. After being defeated by Kamen Rider Gaim however, Sid helps Ryoma betray Takatora before betraying Ryoma and Yggdrasil in turn so he can enter the Helheim Forest and get the Forbidden Fruit for himself. Eventually, Sid encounters the Overlord Roshuo and attempts to fight the latter, but finds himself outmatched. Sid is offered the chance to escape with his life, but refuses and is killed soon afterward.

Utilizing the Genesis Driver and the Cherry Energy (チェリーエナジー, Cherī Enajī) Lockseed, Sid can transform into the Viking-themed Kamen Rider Sigurd Cherry Energy Arms (チェリーエナジーアームズ, Cherī Enajī Āmuzu). Additionally, he possesses a special "Sid" (シド, Shido) Lockseed that allows him to remotely operate Suika Arms mecha via Suika Lockseeds.

Sid is portrayed by Kazuki Namioka (波岡 一喜, Namioka Kazuki).

Ryoma Sengoku[]

Ryoma Sengoku (戦極 凌馬, Sengoku Ryōma) is a brilliant scientist in the Yggdrasil Corporation's research division who conducts experiments to develop the Armored Riders' Drivers as part of Project Ark, a plan established by Yggdrasil to save one-seventh of the human population by providing them the means to obtain nutrients from Helheim Forest fruits without mutating into Inves. He was originally an orphan until he was taken in by Yggdrasil's owner, Amagi Kureshima, who recognized the boy's talents and potential for furthering Yggdrasil's goals. Over the years, Ryoma would go on to become Amagi's right hand, develop Lockseeds, and become acquainted with Amagi's eldest son, Takatora Kureshima. Despite this, Ryoma grew to see the latter as a fool for trying to save humanity first and lacking his father's ambition, leading to Ryoma secretly acting on his own agenda by obtaining the Forbidden Fruit and acquiring its power rather than save the world from the Inves. Following the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle, Ryoma presents the completed Genesis Drivers to Takatora and other select Yggdrasil members while keeping one for himself so he can become Kamen Rider Duke (仮面ライダーデューク, Kamen Raidā Dyūku).

While Takatora believes the Armored Riders have outlived their usefulness, Ryoma uses Kota Kazuraba and Kaito Kumon to elevate his research and recruits Takatora's younger brother Mitsuzane Kureshima to help him observe Kota's use of his Jimber Arms abilities. Eventually, Ryoma recruits Kaito to help him hunt the Overlords. When Kota attains a new power that did not come from his technology and Takatora discovers he withheld information on the Overlords from him, Ryoma openly betrays the latter and leaves him for dead in the Helheim Forest. After being betrayed in turn by former ally Sid, Ryoma abandons Yggdrasil while the Overlords storm the company and invade Zawame City, though not before leaking Project Ark to the public to stop Yggdrasil from interfering in his plans.

Months later, as the Armored Riders begin repelling the Overlords, Ryoma returns to seemingly help Kota retake Yggdrasil while secretly observing the youth's transformation into an Overlord and working to steal the Forbidden Fruit, which had been placed in Mai Takatsukasa's body. To do so, he manipulates Mitsuzane to distract Kota with the Yomotsuheguri Lockseed while he extracts the Forbidden Fruit from Mai, killing her as it was tied to her heart. He also disables all of the Genesis Drivers except for his to stop the New Generation Riders from attacking him, only to be attacked by Kaito, who had also transformed into an Overlord. Infuriated that a human could evolve in such a manner without one of his devices, Ryoma fights back, but ends up tripping over a guard rail and falling to his death.

During the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle, which takes place after the series, the alien Megahex uses Kota's memories to build a replica of Ryoma called Mecha Ryoma Sengoku (メカ戦極 凌馬, Meka Sengoku Ryōma) to serve as his enforcer. Despite being an extension of the alien, "Ryoma" retains his sense of self and relishes his superiority over the Armored Riders until he is defeated by Takatora.

During the events of the V-Cinemas, Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu and Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Baron, both of which take place after Ryoma recruited Kaito to his cause, the former murders Tōka Akatsuki so he can use her Ringo Lockseed to reverse-engineer the Dragonfruit Energy Lockseed, which he gives to Alfred to test before Mecha Ryoma acquires it.

During the events of the V-Cinema Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Duke, which takes place before The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle, Ryoma continues to research the Sengoku and Genesis Drivers, though he starts feeling guilty for the apparent death of his colleague, Kugai Kudo, as of late. After being haunted by Kudo's ghost, who became an Armored Rider to seek revenge, and attacked by the cult, Black Linden, Ryoma joins forces with Takatora to defeat the spirit before using Kugai's Rider weaponry to develop the Sonic Arrows. Upon realizing Kugai's ghostly form effectively makes him immortal, Ryoma locates him and uses his newly developed New Generation Rider technology to destroy him and test the devices.

Using a Genesis Driver and the Lemon Energy (レモンエナジー, Remon Enajī) Lockseed, Ryoma can transform into the knight-themed Kamen Rider Duke Lemon Energy Arms (レモンエナジーアームズ, Remon Enajī Āmuzu). Across supplementary Kamen Rider Gaim-related media, Ryoma has also assumed other forms, which are as follows:

  • Dragon Energy Arms (ドラゴンエナジーアームズ, Doragon Enajī Āmuzu): Mecha Ryoma's primary form accessed via the Dragon Fruits Energy (ドラゴンフルーツエナジー, Dorangon Furūtsu Enajī) Lockseed and the Genesis Driver. This form appears exclusively in Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle.
  • Lemon Arms (レモンアームズ, Remon Āmuzu): The prototypical version of Ryoma's New Generation Rider form accessed via the Lemon (レモン, Remon) Lockseed and a Sengoku Driver that arms him with the Lemon Rapier (レモンレイピア, Remon Reipia). This form appears exclusively in Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Duke.

Ryoma Sengoku is portrayed by Tsunenori Aoki (青木 玄徳, Aoki Tsunenori).[2]

Yoko Minato[]

Yoko Minato (湊 耀子, Minato Yōko) is a former FBI agent and Ryoma's bodyguard whom he gives a Genesis Driver to so she can transform into Kamen Rider Marika (仮面ライダーマリカ, Kamen Raidā Marika) following the events of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Gaim & Wizard: The Fateful Sengoku Movie Battle. Despite being a member of Yggdrasil and taking orders from Takatora Kureshima, her loyalties initially lie with Ryoma.

Amidst her battles with the Armored Riders, Yoko develops an interest in Kaito Kumon and convinces Ryoma to make him a New Generation Rider. After being abandoned by Ryoma amidst the Overlords' invasion, she defects to Kaito and the Armored Riders' side. When Kaito transforms into the Overlord-like Lord Baron, she accompanies him as he kills Ryoma and works to obtain the Forbidden Fruit. He is nearly killed by his former ally Zack, but Yoko sacrifices herself for Kaito and "confesses" her "love" for him before dying.

Utilizing a Genesis Driver and the Peach Energy (ピーチエナジー, Pīchi Enajī) Lockseed, Yoko can transform into the Arabian warrior-themed Kamen Rider Marika Peach Energy Arms (ピーチエナジーアームズ, Pīchi Enajī Āmuzu).

Yoko Minato is portrayed by Minami Tsukui (佃井 皆美, Tsukui Minami).

Kurokage Troopers[]

The Kurokage Troopers (黒影トルーパー, Kurokage Torūpā) are the Yggdrasil Corporation's privately owned soldiers who function as support for their employers and are normally dispatched into Zawame City's streets to destroy any evidence related to the Helheim Forest. They all utilize mass-produced versions of the Sengoku Driver, the plentiful Matsubokkuri Lockseeds similarly to their template, Kamen Rider Kurokage, and the walker-esque Tulip Hopper (チューリップホッパー, Chūrippu Hoppā) Lock Vehicles, which are accessed via the corresponding Lockseed.

Drupers[]

Drupers (ドルーパーズ, Dorūpāzu) is a "fruit parlor" (フルーツパーラー, furūtsu pārā) known for selling fruit parfaits and being Zawame City's most popular location amongst youths, especially the Beat Rider dance teams. Amidst the Inves' invasion, Drupers remains open and serves as a secondary base for the Armored Riders until the Japanese Self-Defense Forces arrive and close down the store to evacuate Zawame. As of the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Drive & Gaim: Movie War Full Throttle, Drupers has long since re-opened and entered a partnership with the pastry shop, Charmant.

Kiyojiro Bando[]

Kiyojiro Bando (阪東 清治郎, Bandō Kiyojirō) is the owner of Drupers who offers advice to his customers and cheers them up with a parfait.

Kiyojiro Bando is portrayed by Tomohisa Yuge (弓削 智久, Yuge Tomohisa).

Iyo[]

Iyo (イヨ) is Bando's only staff member and waitress capable of holding her own in combat, having trained in the use of a and nunchaku.

Iyo is portrayed by (那月 結衣, Natsuki Yui).

Inves[]

The Inves (インベス, Inbesu), the name of which is derived from the term "invasive species", are monsters who hail from the alternate reality of the Helheim Forest (ヘルヘイムの森, Heruheimu no Mori). They were originally part of the Femushinmu race before the forest consumed their civilization and the inhabitants ate Helheim fruit, which mutated them into monsters. The Inves were originally believed to be products of the popular Inves Games (インベスゲーム, Inbesu Gēmu), created by the #Yggdrasil Corporation, that can be summoned to Zawame City via Lockseeds, which open zipper-like portals called "Cracks" (クラック, Kurakku).

Each Inves serves as part of the Helheim Forest's seed dispersal system, transferring Helheim seeds to Zawame, where they rapidly grow and convert the ecosystem by contaminating the soil they grow in and displacing all forms of native plant life. The seeds can also germinate within the bodies of humans who are physically attacked by an Inves. The most famous among Helheim plants is one that served as the basis of the Forbidden Fruit (禁断の果実, Kindan no Kajitsu) or Golden Fruit (黄金の果実, Ōgon no Kajitsu) mentioned in various myths, such as the golden apples of Norse mythology and ambrosia of Greek mythology. The Forbidden Fruit is created once a world has been fully consumed by the Helheim Forest and awarded to an individual that Helheim deems worthy enough to evolve and change the world via a "Maiden of Fate". Due to its incredible power, numerous parties attempt to seek out the fruit for themselves.

Most Inves are of the pupa-like Elementary Inves (初級インベス, Shokyū Inbesu) variety, though they can eat ripened Lockseeds and molt into various animal-themed Evolved Forms (進化体, shinkatai). Both types can be summoned by Lockseeds in Inves Games and initially exist within a holographic field. However, if the Lockseed used to summon them is dropped or damaged, the corresponding Inves will enter a Berserker State (凶暴態, Kyōbōtai) and fully manifest in the human world. In this stage, the only means of defeating it are to close the Lockseed's lock or send it through a Crack, either of which must be done before the Inves can consume the Lockseed used to summon it and evolve further into a Stronger Form (強化体, kyōkatai) or a Super Evolved Form (超進化体, Chō Shinkatai).

Inves can also be created by humans who eat Helheim fruits, with this type being labeled by Yggdrasil as Category H (カテゴリーH, Kategorī Eichi) Inves and being considered nothing more than reanimated corpses controlled by the forest's instinct. Unlike regular Inves, the Category H variant lacks the Helheim pathogen. Yggdrasil later discovers the Inves are controlled by a stronger Overlord Inves.[3]

  • White Tiger Inves: A Category H Inves. See Yuya Sumii.
  • Deer Inves (シカインベス, Shika Inbesu): A sub-species of Evolved Inves. Kota Kazuraba summons one via an Ichigo Lockseed during an Inves Game before it fully manifests and wreaks havoc on Zawame. After consuming the Ichigo Lockseed, it evolves into a Super Evolved Form and gains pyrokinesis. Following this, the Deer Inves is destroyed by Kota as Kamen Rider Gaim. Kota later summons another Deer Inves within the Helheim Forest before destroying it as well.[4]
  • Bat Inves (コウモリインベス, Kōmori Inbesu): A sub-species of Evolved Inves. Hideyasu Jonouchi summons one during an Inves Game before it is destroyed by Kamen Rider Ryugen.[5] After eating a Helheim fruit, a maintenance worker transforms into a mutated (変種体, henshutai) Category H variant of the Bat Inves and goes on a rampage until he is destroyed by Kamen Riders Gaim and Ryugen.[6]

Kamen Riders Gaim and Baron encounter one such Inves before destroying it. A second Azure Dragon Inves later appears in the human world and eats a raw Helheim Fruit, changing into a large serpentine Super Evolved Form before it is destroyed by Kamen Rider Zangetsu Shin.[7]
  • Long-Horned Beetle Inves (カミキリインベス, Kamikiri Inbesu): An Evolved Inves capable of using its antennae like whips. Hideyasu summons it to draw out Kamen Rider Zangetsu, but the Inves is destroyed by Kamen Rider Gaim.[8]
  • Lion Inves (ライオンインベス, Raion Inbesu): A powerful sub-species of Evolved Inves. Sonomura summons one to help him commit robberies. However, the Lockseed he used to summon the Lion Inves shorts out, causing the monster to grow wings and attack its summoner until Kamen Rider Gaim destroys it. Another one appears during the Badan Empire's attack on Zawame after one of their Moguraroids accidentally digs up a Crack. After eating a Helheim fruit while fighting the ToQgers, this Lion Inves grows to gigantic proportions, but is destroyed by the ToQgers' mecha, ToQ-Oh CarCarrier Tank.[9]

Overlords[]

The Overlord Inves (オーバーロードインベス, Ōbārōdo Inbesu) are powerful, evolved Inves who rose above the ordinary kind, maintained their intelligence, gained the ability to manipulate the Helheim Forest's plant life, and teleport. Like the regular Inves, the Overlords were once the Femushinmu (フェムシンム) race,[i] the dominant species of their world before Helheim consumed it. They are few in number due to a wish that Roshuo made that led to a series of wars that drove the Overlords to near extinction, with the survivors being unable to revive their race. The Overlords' existence was initially known to DJ Sagara and Ryoma Sengoku's group, with the Armored Riders slowly learning of the Overlords as the series progresses. While the Overlords have the power to avert the Helheim Forest's invasion, Roshuo chooses not to so as to remain neutral in such affairs while the others have little interest in anything other than fighting worthy opponents after having had nothing to do since their civilization collapsed.

Dēmushu[]

Dēmushu (デェムシュ) is a hot-tempered brute of an Overlord clad in crimson (真紅, shinku) armor who enjoys fighting and is prone to anger, seeing humans as weak "dyoburyo" (デョブリョ),[j] that deserve death by someone as strong as himself. He is the first of the Overlords that the Armored Riders encounter, with Kaito being his first opponent after Dēmushu struggles to communicate with him despite consulting a dictionary. Following this, the Overlord eventually learns enough Japanese to use vulgarities before facing Kaito once more. After sustaining injuries during this fight, Dēmushu takes the loss personally and attacks the Yggdrasil Corporation to find and kill his rival. He nearly overpowers Kota and Takatora Kureshima, but Roshuo forces him to return to receive punishment for attacking outsiders. Following this, Dēmushu finds a Crack leading to Earth and attacks Zawame City, with the intention of destroying it for personal satisfaction. After eating a Helheim fruit and evolving into a stronger form, he overpowers the Armored Riders until Kota uses the Kiwami Lockseed to destroy the Overlord.

In battle, Dēmushu is armed with a nagamaki-like weapon called Sheimu (シェイム), the ability to fire shockwaves from his hands, and dissolve into a gelatinous mass capable of deflecting attacks while retaining his formidable offensive power.

Dēmushu is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita (杉田 智和, Sugita Tomokazu).

Redyue[]

Redyue (レデュエ) is a feminine, sinister, and sadistic Overlord clad in jade (翡翠, hisui) armor who uses others as her personal play things until she discards them when they are of no more use to her. After the Armored Riders arrive in Helheim, she quickly takes to manipulating them, having lived in boredom after the Femushinmu civilization collapsed. Following an encounter with Mitsuzane and Sid, Redyue feigns defeat before leading them to the Forbidden Fruit and manipulating the latter into attacking Roshuo. She later reveals to Mitsuzane her desire to claim the Forbidden Fruit's power for herself. To achieve this, she convinces Roshuo to give her the fruit in exchange for using Earth's technology to revive his queen, with the intention of betraying him later on. However, the Armored Riders' allies rescue her prisoners while she is furious to learn that Roshuo had already given the Forbidden Fruit to someone else and kills him before she is in turn killed by Kota.

In battle, Redyue wields a Dau (ダウ) spear, can emit sounds capable of overloading a target's hearing, and reopen Cracks.

Redyue is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda (津田 健次郎, Tsuda Kenjirō).

Roshuo[]

Roshuo (ロシュオ) is the leader of the Overlords clad in chalk (白亜, hakua) armor who normally rests deep within the ruins of his former civilization and believes humans are no different from the Femushinmu. Having endured Helheim while it was consuming his world, Roshuo became its king and used the Forbidden Fruit to turn the world into one that reflects his ideals of the strong ruling over the weak. However, as those blessed by the forest slaughter those unable to fight back, Roshuo learned too late that his wish caused a conflict that destroyed the Femushinmu civilization, with his queen among the casualties. Expressing disgust for conflict, Roshuo uses his incredible psychic power to keep the remaining Overlords in check. He also observes Yggdrasil's research team, particularly their technology capable of using a Lockseed's power without turning their owner into an Inves.

After rescuing Takatora, Roshuo reveals his history to him along with his ownership of humanity and the Femushinmu's Forbidden Fruits. Though possession of multiple Forbidden Fruits is against Helheim's laws, Roshuo sees no reason to give humanity's fruit to them as he would do anything to revive his beloved and believes the two fruits will facilitate it. However, Sagara convinces Roshuo to give humanity a second chance. The latter obliges by creating the Kiwami Lockseed from a fragment of humanity's Forbidden Fruit and giving it to Sagara in the hopes that he is right. Despite this, the Overlord also promises to give Redyue the Forbidden Fruit if she can revive his beloved. During the closing stages of the Inves' invasion of Zawame, Roshuo meets Mai Takatsukasa, who helps ease his regret and help him see that humanity is not as bad as he initially believed. In return, he chooses to make her humanity's Maiden of Fate and entrusts her with humanity's Forbidden Fruit. He is later killed by Redyue while fighting Kota and Kaito.

Roshuo possesses heightened intelligence, which allows him to learn the Japanese language quickly, achieving proficiency in conversing fluently as well as speaking in a manner befitting his status, power, and experience. He also wields the Joeshuimu (ジョエシュイム) sword and powerful telekinetic abilities.

Using the power of Helheim, she manipulates the former into unknowingly using deadly Helheim fruit in his new fruit cakes to transform customers into Inves and brainwash Oren into her mindless slave. However, her crimes are discovered by Takatora Kureshima, who defeats her and foils her plans while Hideyasu frees Oren from her control.

Utilizing a Sengoku Driver and the Helheim (ヘルヘイム, Heruheimu) Lockseed, Masako can transform into Kamen Rider Sylphy Hells Arms (仮面ライダーシルフィー ヘルズアームズ, Kamen Raidā Shirufī Heruzu Āmuzu). While transformed, she wields the Hells Cane (ヘルズケイン, Heruzu Kein) spear.

Masako Suzuka is portrayed by Tomomi Jiena Sumi (鷲見 友美 ジェナ, Sumi Tomomi Jena).
