Marinette Dupain-Cheng is babysitting a child named Manon Chamack when her best friend, Alya Césaire, tells her that her crush, Adrien Agreste, is having a photoshoot nearby. Meanwhile, Aurore Beauréal loses a competition to be nominated as a kids' TV channel's next weather forecaster. Mad over the seemingly unfair results, Aurore falls victim to an "akuma", an evil butterfly created by the villainous "Hawk Moth" and is "akumatized", turned into a villain, named "Stormy Weather", who can control the weather. With the help of their Ladybug and Black Cat-themed jewels, the Miraculouses, and their magical "kwami" creatures, Tikki and Plagg, Marinette and Adrien transform into their superhero personas, "Ladybug" and "Cat Noir". Together, they defeat Stormy, but are oblivious to each other's identities.

It is Adrien's birthday and Marinette is struggling to give him the present she made for him. When Adrien's father, Gabriel Agreste, a secretive and renowned fashion designer, won't allow Adrien to have a birthday party, his best friend, Nino Lahiffe, gets mad about how unfair he's being towards Adrien. Claiming that all adults want to stop kids from having fun, Nino is tempted by Hawk Moth and becomes the "Bubbler", a villain who sends all adults into outer space in giant bubbles. After Bubbler is defeated, Adrien receives a scarf from Marinette, but his father's assistant Nathalie Sancoeur claims it is from his father.

Ladybug accidentally drops her history book while riding under a helicopter, leading Alya to speculate that Ladybug could be a Parisian collègienne. Marinette starts to panic when she finds out, and at Tikki's suggestion, brings Alya to visit a new Pharaoh exhibition at the Louvre, to try to get the book back. Meanwhile, their classmate Alix Kubdel's brother, Jalil Kubdel, is forbidden by his father, Alim, from testing an ancient resurrection spell. Frustrated that his father does not believe him, Jalil is influenced by Hawk Moth and transforms into "The Pharaoh", possessing the powers of the Egyptian gods. He intends to bring back Nefertiti using Alya as a sacrifice. During the battle, Ladybug discovers that she is the latest Ladybug hero in a legacy spanning 5,000 years.

As Ladybug's biggest fan, Alya is out to expose Ladybug's true identity. In the locker room, she finds the self-centred Chloé Bourgeois with Ladybug's "yo-yo" and "mask", leading her to speculate that Chloé is Ladybug. When Alya attempts to take a photo of Chloé's open locker for evidence, Chloé accuses her of invasion of privacy and has the principal, Mr. Damocles, suspend her. Angry at being suspended, Alya is akumatized by Hawk Moth and becomes "Lady Wifi", a villain whose smartphone can fire magical phone icons, can travel through Wi-Fi-serviced phones, and will stop at nothing to expose Ladybug, including invading Chloé's hotel room.

Marinette's parents are celebrating their twentieth anniversary, leaving Marinette to take care of one of her father's special cake requests. However, she gets a call from Alya, who reminds her to bring a banner she made for a race between two of her classmates, Alix and Lê Chiến Kim, to be held at the Trocadéro. Alix has received a family heirloom pocket watch for her fifteenth birthday and passes it to Alya to safeguard it for her while racing. However, during the race, Chloé grabs the watch and drops it, destroying it. Angry at her friends, Alix is attracted to Hawk Moth's akuma and turns into "Timebreaker", a speedy villain who can make people fade from existence by touching them, giving her energy to travel back in time.

A fashion competition is to be held at Collège François-Dupont where the winner will have their derby hat worn by Adrien. Marinette is determined to win in the hope that Adrien will notice her. Meanwhile, Roger Raincomprix, a police officer, orders a pigeon-loving man, Xavier Ramier, to stop feeding pigeons and leave the Trocadéro. Dejected, Xavier is akumatized by Hawk Moth and becomes "Mr. Pigeon", a clumsy villain who controls massive flocks of pigeons.

During Career Day in Marinette's class, Chloé loses an expensive bracelet to Plagg and accuses Marinette of stealing it. Chloé persuades her father, Mayor André Bourgeois, to order Officer Roger Raincomprix to search Marinette's belongings. When Roger refuses to comply without any evidence, Mayor Bourgeois fires Roger. Infuriated at the mayor over this issue, Roger is akumatized into "Rogercop", a RoboCop-inspired villain who wants to bring justice to those who break the law, forcing them to enact "sentences" with mind-controlling laser handcuffs.

Attempting to ask Adrien out to the movies over the phone, Marinette instead accidentally leaves behind an embarrassing voicemail and rushes to delete it before he listens to it. Meanwhile, a sculptor named Théo Barbot is displaying a statue in the park, which he built in honor of Ladybug and Cat Noir. He has a crush on Ladybug and is looking forward to seeing her at the unveiling event, but only Cat Noir ends up arriving. After the event, Cat Noir insinuates to Théo that he and Ladybug are a couple. Feeling jealous, Théo is tempted by Hawk Moth and transforms into "Copycat", a doppelgänger of Cat Noir with the original's "Cataclysm" power to destroy things, to frame the original for committing crimes.

On her class' election day, Chloé blackmails people from running against her as the class representative. Finding this out, Marinette decides to nominate herself for the position. Wanting to prevent Marinette from winning, Chloé organizes an autograph session by rock musician Jagged Stone to bribe her classmates into voting for her. Meanwhile, Armand D'Argencourt, Collège François-Dupont's fencing teacher, has just lost the Paris mayoral elections by a landslide. As the press mocks him, Armand is influenced by Hawk Moth and becomes "Darkblade", an armored black knight who turns people into an army of armored knights to overthrow Paris.

Alya shows Marinette a video she recorded of Ladybug noticing her, but Marinette accidentally deletes it. Before Alya finds out, Marinette steals her phone and frantically tries to recreate the footage. Meanwhile, Mylène's father, Fred Haprèle, has just picked up his fixed hat from Marinette and is getting his first premiere gesture performance called The Mime's Extraordinary Adventures at the Eiffel Tower. However, his partner, Chris, deliberately makes him late at catching the troupe bus and convinces their manager Sarah to let Chris take the lead role instead. Disheartened, Fred becomes akumatized by Hawk Moth and turns into "The Mime", a supervillain whose gestures create real, invisible objects, and wants to seek revenge.

Marinette's great uncle, a world-renowned Chinese chef, Wang Cheng, visits Paris to participate in a cooking show called The Greatest Chef in the World. Adrien comes over to help translate, as Wang claims he can only speak Mandarin Chinese (he speaks the dub's language later in the episode). Before the competition begins, Marinette and Adrien run into Chloé, who is on the judges' panel. After Marinette insults her, Chloé sabotages Cheng's famous Celestial Soup, causing him to get poor results in front of the judges. Confused and disgraced, Cheng becomes akumatized by Hawk Moth and turns into "Kung Food", a villain with food weapons who enslaves those who had eaten his ruined soup and plans to cook Chloé alive.

Collège François-Dupont is sending two students to represent them at a video game tournament. After Marinette notices Adrien is one of the potential candidates, she participates in the selections to be able to team up with Adrien. The two even practice together, where she gives Adrien a lucky charm bracelet. She later defeats her classmate Max Kanté, who has been training for a whole year and was looking forward to participating. Upset about all his training being in vain, Max is transformed by Hawk Moth and turns into "Gamer", who uses a real-life version of the game's ship to zap people and objects, turning them into green "experience point" balls, which upgrades his ship.

Nino develops a crush on Marinette so Adrien offers to help him by asking her out to the zoo. When the two are alone at the zoo, Nino's nerves get the better of him and he claims to have a crush on Alya. Meanwhile, Kim mocks the new black panther in the zoo, claiming to the zookeeper, Alya's father Otis, that he can run faster than it. Enraged by his remarks, Otis becomes akumatized by Hawk Moth and mutates into "Animan", a villain who can shapeshift into any animal, including extinct ones. Afterwards, Nino and Alya find out they have a lot in common.

Chloé is being harassed by something invisible, and Adrien and Marinette are immediately on the case. They talk with Jean, Chloé's butler, at the Le Grand Paris hotel where Chloé lives. They discover Chloé had a fight with her friend Sabrina Raincomprix, whom she treats like a slave, and had claimed that Sabrina is no longer her friend. Heartbroken over her words, Sabrina was akumatized by Hawk Moth, turning into "Vanisher", a completely invisible entity. During the fight, Chloé attempts to point out where Vanisher's akuma is, but is ignored by Ladybug due to her previous untrustworthiness. Feeling betrayed by her idol, Chloé also becomes akumatized and changes into "Antibug", an opposite-colored Ladybug with an "Anti-Charm", an evil version of the original's power to create Lucky Charms.

Marinette and Manon are playing with dolls of Ladybug, Cat Noir, Lady Wifi, Evillustrator and Rogercop. When Manon is angered at Marinette always taking the hero dolls and winning their play sessions, Marinette allows Manon to borrow her Ladybug doll. However, Manon's mother Nadja forbids it, as she complains Manon already has too many toys; they get into a dispute, resulting in the Ladybug doll getting torn. Manon convinces Marinette to lend her the Lady Wifi doll, but Nadja notices Manon playing with it and confiscates it. The angered Manon falls victim to Hawk Moth's akuma and becomes the "Puppeteer", who can control the people Marinette's dolls are based on.

On class picture day, Marinette's classmate, Juleka Couffaine, is hesitant about participating, as she is believed to be under a curse where any picture she is in will have her face covered. Wanting to be closer to Adrien in the photo, Chloé has Sabrina lock Juleka in the bathroom while she takes her place next to Adrien. Believing that she'll always stay cursed and unnoticed, Juleka is infected by Hawk Moth's akuma and turns into "Reflekta", a flamboyant villain who can zap people into making them look exactly like her.

Jagged Stone has problems with his manager, Bob Roth, who wants to change the look of his new album's cover and make him record a duet with XY, a young EDM artist who replaced Jagged at the number one position on the music charts. When XY arrogantly claims that technology matters more than music, rock and roll is no longer in style, and that Jagged is no match for him, Jagged is akumatized by Hawk Moth, turning into "Guitar Villain",^[77] a wild musician, while his crocodile Fang turns into a dragon. By playing his guitar, he can make people dance and headbang uncontrollably.

Marinette's class is visiting the Le Grand Paris hotel, as part of a program to try out some of the jobs that the staff do in the hotel. When Jagged Stone checks in, an overly-obsessed fan, Vincent Aza, sneaks in behind him and tries to take a picture with Jagged, but he is swiftly kicked out of the hotel by Jagged's agent, Penny Rolling. Torn at being shunned by his idol, Vincent is akumatized by Hawk Moth and turns into "Pixelator", a villain who uses a head-mounted telescopic camera to take photos of people, trapping them in white space by "digitizing" them into living portraits that appear on his apartment wall.

Marinette's classmate, Rose Lavillant, is excited about Prince Ali of Achu's visit to Paris, but is caught at school spraying flammable perfume on her fan letter and using a cellphone in chemistry class. Chloé tears up Rose's letter, telling Rose that Prince Ali has no interest in her. Hurt, Rose succumbs to Hawk Moth's akuma and becomes "Princess Fragrance", a corrupted noble whose perfume spray makes people serve her, and desires to have Prince Ali for herself. Meanwhile, Tikki falls ill and Marinette takes her to a mysterious healer.

On a game show called The Challenge, a hypnotist named Simon Grimault is given the challenge to hypnotize Gabriel. However, Gabriel refuses to participate, causing Simon to fail. Angry that he was not given the chance to at least try, Hawk Moth has Simon akumatized into "Simon Says", an extravagant villain who can hypnotize people by throwing playing cards at them. During the attack, Ladybug learns about Adrien's mother, Emilie, who has gone missing.

Adrien discovers a grimoire (and, unbeknownst to him, the inert Peacock Miraculous)!in his father's safe; he steals the book to learn more. An exchange student named Lila Rossi arrives and claims to be good friends with Ladybug to win Adrien and steals the book from him. Tikki recognizes the book and insists on taking it for further study. An angered Ladybug confronts and exposes Lila, embarrassing her and causing Hawk Moth to transform her into "Volpina", a fox-themed supervillain with the power to create realistic, intangible illusions, similar to the Mirage of a real Fox Miraculous owner. After the battle, Tikki's suspicions about the book are confirmed: it is the long-lost book of lore that contains coded secrets about the Miraculouses and their holders. She then brings Marinette to meet the Great Guardian, Master Wang Fu.

Hawk Moth captures the butterfly kwami, named Nooroo,^[89][90] and forces his allegiance so he can lure out the Ladybug and Cat heroes, steal their Miraculouses and gain absolute power. Master Fu, a Chinese healer,^[a] is notified of Hawk Moth's capture of Nooroo by the turtle kwami Wayzz and sets out to find suitable wielders of the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses. Meanwhile, on the first day of school, Kim teases Ivan Bruel about his crush on Mylène. Feeling hopeless, Ivan becomes Hawk Moth's first victim, turning into "Stoneheart", a giant rock monster who grows in size after taking hits. Fu chooses Marinette and Adrien, who transform into Ladybug and Cat Noir. Despite their lack of experience, they manage to defeat Stoneheart at the Parc des Princes and free the akuma. However, Ladybug forgets to purify the akuma; it flies off, multiplying itself and infecting many people, turning them into immobilized Stonehearts. When Marinette learns of her mistake, she renounces the Ladybug Miraculous.

Ivan sings Mylène a love song, but accidentally scares her off. Hawk Moth turns him back into Stoneheart, and he takes control of his duplicates around Paris, which come to life. Adrien rushes to stop Stoneheart as Alya takes chase to film the battle; Marinette runs after her, wanting to pass her the earrings, but is forced to transform back into Ladybug. Hawk Moth demands that Ladybug and Cat Noir surrender their Miraculouses, but Ladybug refuses and purifies the akuma, causing Cat Noir to fall in love with her. That evening after school, it's raining outside; Adrien shares his umbrella with Marinette, who falls in love with him. Master Fu watches from afar, satisfied with his decision to make them Miraculous holders; he remarks the two are "made for each other".

Marinette is formally introduced to Master Fu, whom she knew as Tikki's healer, learning that he is the last Guardian of the Miraculouses due to a past mistake he made that destroyed the Guardians' temple, with the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses lost in the chaos. Fu confirms Tikki's suspicious about the book's nature and suspects that its owner could be Hawk Moth. Marinette panics at the possibility of Adrien being Hawk Moth, but her suspicions instead fall upon Gabriel, learning that he was the owner of the book. Meanwhile, Gabriel grounds Adrien and takes him out of school for stealing and losing the book. In his lair, Hawk Moth sends out an akuma and detransforms, revealing himself to be Gabriel, and akumatizes himself into "The Collector", a supervillain with the ability to trap anything that touches the pages of his blank sketchbook. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat the Collector, concluding together that he cannot be Hawk Moth. Fu copies the book's contents onto a smartphone and Marinette returns it to Gabriel, who reveals that he obtained the book while visiting Tibet and that it is a memento of his wife. He rescinds Adrien's grounding, and Adrien returns to school. Later, Nathalie, aware of Gabriel's identity, asks why he needed the book as he already has a digital copy, and he states it was to cover his tracks.

To get away from a baking lesson, Chloé sets off a false fire alarm, leading to the entire school, sans herself, being punished. Adrien scolds Chloé, telling her that she needs to be nice to people if she wants them to remain friends. Butler Jean has her host a party for everyone, encouraging her that it is what Mr. Cuddly, her old teddy bear, would want her to do. During the party, Jean and Mr. Cuddly prompt Chloé to be nice. Marinette and Adrien begin to dance, and Jean accidentally reveals Mr. Cuddly, embarrassing Chloé and being fired as a result. Hawk Moth akumatizes Jean into "Despair Bear", a tiny villain controlling Mr. Cuddly from the inside, able to possess and control anyone he touches.

Nadja Chamack hosts a new talk show, Face to Face, with her first guests slated to be Ladybug and Cat Noir. Marinette leaves Alya to babysit Manon in order to appear on the show with Cat Noir. In order to boost ratings and ensure the show takes off, Nadja presses on the topic of Ladybug and Cat Noir's relationship, embrassing Ladybug and driving the superheroes to leave. Face to Face is cancelled and Hawk Moth takes advantage of Nadja's despair to akumatize her into "Prime Queen", a villainess who can teleport between digital screens. After Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat her, Nadja begins to host a new show, Side by Side, which takes off successfully.

Marinette is visited by her paternal grandmother, Gina Dupain, on her birthday. Gina is unable to connect with Marinette due to how much time has passed since they last saw each other, and leaves to attend a surprise party hosted by her friends. Thinking she was rejected, Gina is akumatized by Hawk Moth, turning her into "Befana", a villain with a flying motorcyle and the ability to turn people who do bad things into coal and those who do good into fairies, who become her servants. Befana attempts to claim vengeance on Marinette, only to be defeated by Ladybug and Cat Noir. At the party, Marinette makes up with her grandmother, and is gifted with a lucky charm bracelet by Adrien.

Marinette seeks to join the fencing team to get closer to Adrien. A new student, Kagami Tsurugi, arrives to join the team as well, challenging Adrien to prove herself. During the battle across the school, an unsure Marinette is made the referee and declares Adrien the winner. Disappointed in her failure, Kagami leaves in shame, believing the judgement was wrong. Hawk Moth akumatizes Kagami and turns her into "Riposte", an armored samurai villain with the power to slice and cut anything with a saber attached to her arm. After the battle, Adrien reconciles with Kagami, agreeing to be friends and have another match.

Max builds Markov, a miniature robot capable of real human emotions, but is hesitant to even reveal him. Despite helping prevent a computer virus from wiping the school's servers, Ms. Mendeleiev and Principal Damocles believe Markov to be only a toy, confiscating him. Separated from his friend, Markov becomes distressed and is akumatized into "Robostus"; who is capable of giving life to mechanical devices. During the ensuing mechanical uprising, Markov learns of the Miraculous' ability to grant wishes, Robostus double-crosses Hawk Moth, although is defeated by Ladybug and Cat Noir, with Max's help. Visiting Master Fu, Marinette learns that the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses can grant wishes if used together, yet, due to the universe needing to maintain balance, said wish will have a consequence of equal value.

Inspired by Ladybug and Cat Noir's heroics, Mr. Damocles becomes a vigilante named The Owl (inspired by his favorite comic book hero, Knightowl), but his heroic efforts continuously fail, forcing him to be saved repeatedly. Ladybug and Cat Noir try to fill Mr. Damocles' heroic fantasies with help from Alya, but the plan goes wrong, humiliating Damocles and exposing his identity. Hawk Moth turns him into "Dark Owl", a villain with real superhero gadgets. Dark Owl lures Ladybug and Cat Noir out and traps them in a shipping container where they will drown unless they hand over their Miraculouses, forcing them to detransform and fool Hawk Moth with fake Miraculouses in order to escape, in the process exposing their secret identities to Tikki and Plagg. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Dark Owl, and then help Mr. Damocles to become a superhero on a smaller scale by doing good deeds.

Marinette, Alya and her other friends go to eat some ice cream together at a cart owned by André, a famous ice cream maker whose ice cream is said to make couples fall in love. Marinette hopes that Adrien will be there, but he ditches them to prepare a candlelight dinner for Ladybug as Cat Noir. Disappointed by Adrien's absence, Marinette refuses to eat the ice cream André gave her. Depressed over the failed romance, André becomes akumatized into "Glaciator", a giant ice cream snowman who solidifies people who he thinks are single into ice cream. After defeating him, Cat Noir confesses his love for Ladybug, who turns him down.

Marinette helps Alya babysit the latter's twin sisters, Ella and Etta. When they keep staying up and refuse to go to bed, Alya forbids them from going to an amusement park the next day and confiscates one of their hats. The angered twins are akumatized together into "Sapotis", a pair of small monsters that can multiply when they eat. When Ladybug and Cat Noir are overwhelmed by the creatures, Ladybug is prompted by her Lucky Charm to visit Master Fu, who loans her the Fox Miraculous. Ladybug gives the Miraculous to Alya, who, with the command of Trixx the kwami, transforms into the fox-themed superheroine, "Rena Rouge". After the three heroes overcome the Sapotis, Alya reluctantly returns the Fox Miraculous to Ladybug and keeps the details of her adventure a secret. However, a new superhero makes Hawk Moth realize that there are more Miraculouses in Paris, as well as their Guardian.

Adrien sneaks out to watch a movie in which his mother plays the lead role, but gets mobbed by a group of fans. Meanwhile, Gabriel suspects his son may be Cat Noir because of his ring. He sends Adrien's bodyguard to find him, but when his efforts prove too slow to Gabriel, he transforms into Hawk Moth and decides to akumatize the frustrated bodyguard to get faster results. Adrien's bodyguard becomes "Gorizilla", a giant gorilla with enormous strength and a keen sense of smell. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Gorizilla, and Cat Noir throws Gabriel's suspicions off him with the aid of a disguised fan named Wayhem.

Marinette's teacher, Ms. Bustier, is celebrating her birthday, and all her students have gifts for her, except for Chloé. After being called out for it, Chloé messes up Marinette's gift. When Marinette is privately talked to by Miss Bustier in the hall, her concern makes her a target for Hawk Moth. Miss Bustier intercepts the akuma and is brainwashed into the love-spreading "Zombizou", whose kiss contagiously turns anyone into kissing zombies, who targets Chloé. Ladybug and Cat Noir escape to the Eiffel Tower with Chloé. When Bustier is de-evilized, Chloé admits her fault and accepts forgiveness.

Kim and a talented swimmer, Ondine, are at the swimming pool where Ondine tries to send a love message to Kim, but he leaves without reading it to see a movie with his other friends. Sensing Ondine's broken heart, Hawk Moth akumatizes her into "Syren", a mermaid supervillain who floods the city. Meanwhile, Adrien is expressing doubts being a superhero since Ladybug is keeping too many secrets from him, and he and Master Fu officially meet. Fu creates magic potions that grant Ladybug and Cat Noir new powers, allowing them to transform into "aqua" forms and defeat Syren.

Clara Nightingale, a famous singer, is in France to film the music video for her new song, a tribute to Ladybug and Cat Noir. Marinette is overexcited; however, Adrien is worried because he has been chosen to take part in Clara's video as Cat Noir in a duplicate costume, which might expose his identity. At the audition, Clara casts Marinette as Ladybug in the video. Marinette turns down the offer to protect her identity, but changes her mind at the last minute when Chloé dressed as Ladybug riles her up in the audition. Chloé gets revenge for being excluded by having her father ban Clara from filming the video in Paris. Saddened, Clara succumbs to Hawk Moth's akuma and becomes "Frightningale", a supervillain who can turn people into statues if they do not sing, dance, or speak in rhymes.

Jagged Stone decides to guest star in a live-recording television show, Fill My Shoes, where a contestant does another person's job. Wanting to impress Jagged, Penny overexerts herself and suffers a nervous breakdown. Hawk Moth takes advantage of the pressure on Penny and akumatizes her as "Troublemaker", a villain capable of switching from tangible to intangible.

Alya plans to go see the World Cup fireworks, but her older sister Nora objects that it's dangerous, considering the number of times Alya had been directly involved with Hawk Moth's villains. Nora offers to let her go if Nino can defeat her in arm-wrestling to prove he can protect her, and Marinette cheats to secure his victory. Unappreciated, Nora is akumatized into the spider-themed villain "Anansi". Alya and Cat Noir are trapped on the Arc de Triomphe, forcing Ladybug to see Master Fu. This time, she recommends his Turtle Miraculous. Ladybug introduces Wayzz to Nino and he transforms into the turtle-themed superhero "Carapace", with the power to create protective "Shell-ters", and helps defeat Anansi.

It's Nooroo's cycle, or birthday, and Tikki and Plagg join the other kwamis in the hopes of communicating with him. While they are gone, the heroes are attacked by "Sandboy", a Sandman-inspired villain who is bringing people's nightmares to reality. Just as the kwamis are about to make contact, they end up calling Hawk Moth instead. Cutting off the connection, Tikki and Plagg return to their owners. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Sandboy, who is revealed to be a boy who had a nightmare from watching horror movies before bed.

A shy student named Marc Anciel drops a fictional journal of Ladybug. The journal inspires Nathaniel, and Marinette sets up a meeting between him and Marc. However, he mistakes the situation for a prank at his expense, then tears the journal and leaves. The misunderstanding causes Marc to be akumatized by Hawk Moth, transforming him into "Reverser", a supervillain whose paper planes can reverse anyone's personality quirks. After his defeat, Marc and Nathaniel make amends (it is also hinted that they are in a same-sex relationship), and collaborate on a comic featuring Ladybug and a reformed Reverser and Evillustrator (calling himself "Mightillustrator") defeating villains.

Marinette, Luka, Adrien, and Kagami go on an ice-skating double date. At the ice rink, Mr. Bourgeois plans to close the place against the wishes of a skating coach named Philippe, since he has not had a student for a whole year. When Philippe is unable to convince the four to sign up for ice skating lessons, he is akumatized into "Frozer", a supervillain armed with ice skates that turns the entire Paris into a kingdom of ice. Using "ice" forms from Master Fu's potions, Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Frozer.

It's Fashion Week in Paris and everyone is at the Grand Palais for a fashion show hosted by Gabriel, including Chloé's emotionally abusive mother, Audrey Bourgeois. Gabriel retreats to his basement, where Emilie is kept in stasis in a coffin, revealing that he intends to use the Miraculouses to wish Emilie back to life. To make Audrey the most impeccable victim of akumatization, Gabriel sits her in a degrading place, then transforms her into "Style Queen", a being made of glitter armed with a scepter that transforms her victims into solid gold. She turns Adrien into a statue and takes him to the Eiffel Tower to lure Ladybug and Cat Noir. Without the support of Cat Noir, Ladybug visits Master Fu where she meets Plagg. She picks the Bee Miraculous with the power of Venom that paralyzes people, but loses it when Style Queen attacks her. Ladybug and Plagg defeat Style Queen, and Chloé discovers the Bee Miraculous, along with its kwami, Pollen.

Ladybug and Cat Noir manage to subdue her and successfully convince Chloé to give the Miraculous back. Marinette turns down Audrey's offer, while Audrey decides to stay in Paris much longer and spend more time with Chloé.

Despondent at his inability to make Chloé happy, Mr. Bourgeois gets akumatized into "Malediktator", a dictator invested with absolute power to compel his victims to obey his every command. The school celebrates upon learning that Chloé is leaving Paris. However, Adrien recounts how Chloé was his only friend growing up, making Marinette regret driving her off. Ladybug borrows the Bee Miraculous and tracks down Chloé, who admits that nobody likes her and that she is having a crisis of self-esteem. Ladybug lends her the Bee Miraculous to transform back into Queen Bee, and together they defeat Malediktator. Chloé decides not to leave Paris after all, and a party is thrown at school in her honor.

It is Heroes' Day, the anniversary of heroic activities. Meanwhile, Lila has become a shut-in since her previous encounter with Ladybug. Gabriel arouses her frustration to akumatize her into Volpina again. Volpina creates an illusion of an akumatized version of Ladybug killing Cat Noir during a parade in order to render the Parisians vulnerable to emotions. Hawk Moth retrieves the akuma and gives it to Nathalie, transforming her into "Catalyst", with the ability to boost powers. She upgrades Hawk Moth into "Scarlet Moth", who can create as many akumas as he wants. Overwhelmed by the reakumatization of several previous villains, Ladybug recruits Rena Rouge and Carapace and is forced to out them to each other, while Cat Noir recruits Queen Bee. Scarlet Moth appears at the Eiffel Tower, and the heroes arrive at a lookout and begin to try to come up with a strategy.

The battle begins between the five superheroes and the so-called "Scarlet Army", but the villains soon prove to be too overwhelming. With Dark Cupid's arrows, Scarlet Moth akumatizes Rena Rouge, Carapace and Queen Bee, turning the former two into "Rena Rage" and "Shell Shock", and Ladybug and Cat Noir are forced to retreat. While the people of Paris delay the Scarlet Army, they head to the Eiffel Tower to confront Scarlet Moth and destroy his cane, removing Hawk Moth's gift from Catalyst and reversing all the akumatizations. The heroes corner Hawk Moth, forcing Catalyst to take the Peacock Miraculous and transform into "Mayura", a peacock-themed supervillain. Mayura "amokizes" Hawk Moth, using an amok, an evil feather, to create a "sentimonster". Born out of Hawk Moth's frustration, the monstrous moth allows Hawk Moth to escape. Gabriel later warns Nathalie that the Peacock Miraculous is damaged and not to use it again. Later, Marinette and her friends throw a picnic together to celebrate Heroes' Day, and Marinette gathers up the courage to kiss Adrien on the cheek.

In the present, Fu falls ill and tasks Marinette with delivering a prescription to the local pharmacy and a love confession to Marianne, inspiring Marinette to deliver a love letter to Adrien before he and his father leave for London with the Tsurugis. However, she mixes up the three letters, resulting in Marianne getting and misreading Adrien's letter, becoming convinced that Fu has stopped caring about her. Hawk Moth akumatizes her into "Backwarder", a villain who can turn back her victims' personal timestreams; during the battle, Hawk Moth learns that she knows who the Guardian of the Miraculouses is. After defeating her, Ladybug delivers Marianne the correct letter. Fu and Marianne reunite briefly, but realize they cannot remain together until Hawk Moth is defeated.

After defeating Gigantitan for a second time, Cat Noir sees Marinette nearby, moments after detransforming from Ladybug. In order to protect her secret identity, Marinette claims to be in love with him, which is witnessed by her father, Tom, who invites Cat Noir for lunch. The next day, Cat Noir politely turns Marinette down, causing her to feign distress. Enraged over Marinette's rejection and determined to protect her from heartbreak, Tom is akumatized into "Weredad", a huge werewolf-like bodyguard. After his defeat, Cat Noir reconciles with Tom, and reveals that he had actually assumed Marinette was his number one fan.

Lila returns to class, claiming to have returned from a trip around the world, and quickly continues to charm and manipulate her classmates through lies. Marinette tries to expose the deceit to her classmates, but only makes things worse for herself, culminating in Lila threatening to ruin her life if she interferes again. Hawk Moth senses Marinette's frustration and isolation and attempts to akumatize her, but Tikki helps Marinette overcome it. Frustrated by Adrien being aware of her lying because of Ladybug, Lila willingly takes the akuma to get revenge on the heroes, becoming "Chameleon", a shapeshifting villain who can mimic anyone by kissing them. Ladybug defeats Chameleon and suggests a truce, to which Lila feigns agreement. Later, Lila continues lying, and she promises to ruin Marinette soon after.

However, Kagami shows up and Marinette works with Chloé (who also dislikes Kagami) to keep her away from Adrien. When they fail, Chloé figures out that Marinette has a crush on Adrien. Meanwhile, the film's director, Thomas Astruc, becomes despondent when nobody appreciates his work on the film, falling victim to Hawk Moth and becoming "Animaestro", a supervillain capable of transforming into various animated characters. After Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat him, Astruc gives up his seat at the premiere for Marinette and she takes it, right next to Adrien.

Marinette tracks Rolland down and discovers he has an extreme disdain for anything he considers non-traditional, and had a falling out with Tom when he added rice flour to his bread recipe. The encounter agitates Rolland enough to make him vulnerable to Hawk Moth, who akumatizes him into "Bakerix", a bread-themed Gaul. Once defeated, Rolland decides to sample his son's recipe and realizes he judged it too harshly. He comes to the Dupain-Cheng bakery and reconciles with his son, to everyone's delight.

Bob Roth sends out a call to young artists to submit music videos in a plan to plagiarize a new song for his son, XY. Luka, Juleka, Rose, and Ivan's band, Kitty Section, submit a video with costumes from Marinette. XY then steals their song, driving Marinette and Luka to confront Roth, who threatens to use his connections to frame them as the plagiarists. Enraged at Marinette being threatened, Luka is akumatized into "Silencer", who can steal voices and imitate them with his hands. Silencer confesses his love to Marinette before leaving to pursue Roth. Marinette transforms into Ladybug and has her voice stolen, although is able to defeat Silencer with Cat Noir's aid. Afterwards, Ladybug and Cat Noir fool Roth into confessing his scheme on live television, forcing him to give Kitty Section a record deal in order to save his reputation. Marinette attends the recording, where Luka reaffirms his feelings for her.

Ladybug and Cat Noir wake up in an elevator, unable to remember who they are or how they got there. Detransforming into Marinette and Adrien, they deduce from context clues that they are superheroes who have had their memories erased by the memory-wiping supervillain "Oblivio", and also that they are deeply in love. With help from Master Fu and their Kwamis, they regain their powers and defeat Oblivio, revealed to be Alya and Nino simultaneously akumatized. Before restoring their memories with her Miraculous Ladybug, Ladybug shares a kiss with Cat Noir.

After defeating her, Marinette works up the courage to deliver some schoolwork Adrien missed due to a photo shoot. Throughout the episode, everyone reminisces about their past up to this point.

After defeating an unseen villain, Ladybug and Cat Noir argue about how easy the other has it. Luka convinces Juleka to offer herself as a model for Marinette's fashion blog, and Alya takes advantage of the situation to invite Adrien to help out, so he can bond with Marinette. Juleka gets a severe case of anxiety, resulting in Marinette modelling in her place. The two take off their Miraculouses and head to the Trocadéro for their photoshoot, leaving Juleka to stew in her self-loathing. Hawk Moth akumatizes her back into Reflekta, and Mayura gives her a sentimonster called "Reflekdoll", a giant mech that can shoot lasers that turn its victims into copies of Reflekta. Plagg and Tikki recover their Miraculouses and give them to Marinette and Adrien to transform into "Lady Noir" and "Mister Bug", defeating Reflekta and Reflekdoll. Once things are restored, Marinette and Adrien let Juleka model Marinette's outfits, much to her delight.

Lila dupes Adrien into spending time with her on the pretext of helping her with homework. Marinette follows them, wanting to prevent Lila from hurting anyone. Frustrated with the other girls in Adrien's life, Lila takes a picture of herself kissing Adrien on the cheek and sends it to all of Adrien's classmates. When Kagami receives the picture, she flies into a jealous rage, allowing Hawk Moth—already wanting to keep Lila away from his son—to akumatize her into "Oni-Chan", a phantom shinobi who pursues Lila by cursing her with a horn on her forehead that acts as a tracking beacon. During the battle, Cat Noir realizes Kagami's genuine love for Adrien, while Lila quietly attempts to offer Oni-Chan help in defeating Ladybug and Cat Noir, impressing Hawk Moth. After defeating Oni-Chan, Adrien, now knowing how much Lila hates Ladybug, warns her that he won't tolerate her hurting his loved ones. Gabriel then invites Lila to his mansion, and the two strike up a partnership.

Ladybug hesitates to tell Chloé that she can no longer be Queen Bee, due to everyone, including Hawk Moth, knowing about her secret identity. Meanwhile, Hawk Moth and Mayura plot to wither Chloé's trust in Ladybug to turn her into an ally, deciding that Lila can help. Chloé is soon tricked by Lila and humiliated when Ladybug doesn't summon her to fight a sentimonster, taking her frustration out on Sabrina. Hawk Moth tries to akumatize Chloé, but she resists, and the akuma instead goes to Sabrina who becomes "Miraculer", a villain capable of stealing the powers of Miraculous holders. Ladybug is forced to call upon all of her allies in order to fight Miraculer, including Chloé. Despite Mayura attempting to steal the Bee Miraculous, the heroes are able to defeat Miraculer. In the aftermath, Ladybug finally tells Chloé that she can no longer be Queen Bee. Chloé's trust in Ladybug is damaged as a result, which Hawk Moth observes.

At the museum, Alya and Nino leave Marinette and Adrien in a workshop together to try and hook them up and then leave to spend time with each other. Manon is left behind, and is upset when she believes nobody wants to play with her. Hawk Moth corrupts her back into the Puppeteer, this time with the ability to bring wax statues of several past akumatized people to life, regaining their powers. After defeating the Puppeteer, Marinette learns that Adrien likes another girl, much to her disappointment.

Marinette and her friends hang out at the Couffaine residence to listen to them play. Jagged Stone approaches them and explains that he is looking for a new guitarist after he fired his old guitarist Vivica. Suddenly, they are attacked by Vivica, who has been akumatized into "Desperada", a Desperado-inspired, day of the dead themed-supervillain whose instrument-themed weapons turn anyone they strike into stickers. Ladybug is directed to Master Fu, where she takes the Snake Miraculous and decides to give it to Adrien. Adrien agrees, deciding to forego his role as Cat Noir in order to woo Ladybug directly, transforming into the snake superhero "Aspik". However, despite the numerous retries provided by his Second Chance power, Aspik proves unable to defeat Desperada. Realizing his error, Adrien suggests that Luka should wield the Snake Miraculous instead. Luka transforms into the snake superhero "Viperion", and the three defeat Desperada. In the aftermath, Jagged hires Vivica again, much to her delight.

Max's mother, Claudie, the driver of the Startrain, dreams of being an astronaut and has taken an exam to begin training. However, after failing to akumatize Officer Raincomprix, a rogue akuma is trapped in Sabrina's suitcase, and gets loose onto the train. When Claudie succumbs to fear waiting for confirmation about whether she passed, the akuma infects her and turns her into "Startrain", an astronaut-themed villain, who converts the train into a space-faring vehicle. Ladybug and Cat Noir ask for help from Markov and Max, who receives the Horse Miraculous, turning him into the superhero "Pegasus". With his aid, the heroes teleport the train back to Earth, so Ladybug can safely purify the akuma. Afterwards, Claudie gets the e-mail confirming she passed her exam.

To prove the existence of the magical creatures, Ms. Mendeleiev presents her findings on the Alternative Truth TV show, although she is dismissed; while watching the show, both Marinette and Adrien realize that their partner goes to the same school. Ms. Mendeleiev is akumatized into "Kwamibuster", a Ghostbusters-inspired, hunter themed-villain with a vacuum to capture kwamis. Both heroes lose their kwamis to Kwamibuster, so Marinette borrows most of the Miraculouses in the Miracle Box despite the physical risk, and has Mullo of the Mouse Miraculous transform her into "Multimouse"; giving her the power of Multitude that splits herself into miniature clones. Some of her clones also "unify" with other powers and employ the various kwamis to beat Kwamibuster, freeing all the captured kwamis. Multimouse, as "Multifox", creates an illusion to make it appear that Marinette and Ladybug are two different people to erase any idea from Cat Noir of them being the same person, while Cat Noir also convinces Ladybug that he isn't a student. Once all the Miraculouses are returned, Master Fu remarks how exceptionally strong Marinette is to have used so many Miraculouses at once.

The Louvre debuts a new exhibit, featuring an ancient statue found in Tibet. Alya investigates the history of the Miraculouses, discovering the existence of the Order of Guardians. Watching the vlog, Master Fu witnesses the statue at the Louvre, and immediately recognizes it as a dormant sentimonster, revealing to Marinette that he had created it in the past, accidentally imbuing it with a drive to devour every Miraculous, thus making it destroy the Order of the Guardians. Also sensing the sentimonster, Mayura brings it to life and Hawk Moth akumatizes it into "Feast", giving it the power to track down the Miraculouses. Fu takes back the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses to protect Marinette and Adrien, but changes his mind when they still try to protect him from Feast in civilian form. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat the monster, and, in the process, Hawk Moth and Mayura learn Fu's identity. With the sentimonster destroyed, the Guardians and their temple return to normal, and Fu decides to find a new hiding spot, while also planning to train Marinette as his successor.

On Friendship Day, Marinette and her friends participate in an annual friend-making game to find a hidden celebrity — this year, Adrien Agreste. Kagami, without the permission of her mother, Tomoe, also participates in the game. Marinette ends up partnered with her, and tries to sabotage their efforts so Kagami and Adrien won't be together. However, Marinette soon realizes that Kagami is actually lonely and wants to make a new friend. Realizing what Kagami has done, Tomoe becomes enraged at her authority being challenged, allowing Hawk Moth to akumatize her into "Ikari Gozen", a mechanical centaur samurai with a bokken. She traps Kagami in her giant armor-like stomach, and, forming a plan, Ladybug acquires the Dragon Miraculous from an incognito Master Fu. Kagami is given the Dragon Miraculous to transform into "Ryuko", with the power to turn herself into wind, water, or lightning. She doesn't listen to Ladybug's plan, resulting in her revealing her identity to Hawk Moth and Cat Noir being captured. Despite this, Ryuko is able to fulfill the plan, defeating Ikari Gozen. In the aftermath, Kagami stands up to her mother, and, despite losing the game to Alya and Wayhem, is able to become friends with Marinette.

After defeating Mr. Pigeon for the 24th time, Ladybug and Cat Noir are attacked by "Timetagger", a rapper-themed supervillain able to send himself and others through time, sent by the future Hawk Moth to steal their Miraculouses before they become adults. The two are forced to retreat due to their Miraculouses timing out, and encounter Alix in the Louvre, who reveals that her family watch has suddenly delivered a message asking them to destroy a certain statue in the museum. Cat Noir does so, revealing a future version of Alix who wields the Rabbit Miraculous, which so happens to be Alix's watch, as the time-travelling superheroine "Bunnyx". With Bunnyx, and additional help from their future selves, Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Timetagger, who is revealed to be a future version of Chris Lahiffe. Having learned from Timetagger that he isn't Hawk Moth in the future, Gabriel becomes despondent, but Nathalie encourages him to not give up.

With Gabriel away from Paris for a Tokyo fashion week, Nino, Kim, Ivan, and Max throw a party for Adrien in the Agreste mansion, which every boy in Paris attends, with Marinette disguising herself to gain entry as well. During the party, Master Fu nearly falls and injures himself while dancing, but Kim saves him, impressing Fu with his athletic ability. Gabriel, having actually stayed behind within his basement, becomes desperate to regain control of his house when the power is cut to Emilie's capsule. He akumatizes Wayhem when he is unable to get into the party, turning him into "Party Crasher", a disco-themed villain who can predict his foes' movements and capture them using his disco balls. Party Crasher captures Ladybug, forcing Fu to recruit Carapace, Viperion, and Pegasus, but all of them and Cat Noir are defeated. Desperate, Fu delivers the Monkey Miraculous to Kim, turning him into the superhero "King Monkey". With his Uproar ability, he disrupts Party Crasher's powers, freeing the other heroes; together they defeat Party Crasher. Afterwards, the group cleans up Adrien's room, and Adrien apologizes to Wayhem, unaware they are being watched by Gabriel.

Marinette is overwhelmed with stress from cramming so many tasks, leading her to swear off leisure until she finishes her work. This forces her to turn down a request from her parents to play video games with them. Meanwhile, Max wants to find someone to test a new game he created, but all of his friends are busy. Depressed, Max falls victim to Hawk Moth and is corrupted into Gamer 2.0. He forces Ladybug and Cat Noir into a fighting game tournament with former akumatized villains as the playable characters. During the tournament, Ladybug learns from Cat Noir that she has to relax and have fun, and defeats Gamer using a combination of the villains' equipment. To help Max, Marinette takes him to her parents so they can playtest his game, and decides to relax and join them.

For the feast day of Adrien's namesake, St. Athanase, Marinette's friends encourage her to finally confess to Adrien. She transforms into Ladybug and leaves a gift in his room; however, Adrien spots her leaving, finds the gift signed by Marinette, and deduces her secret identity. Suddenly, Bunnyx reappears and brings Ladybug to the future, where Paris is destroyed. Bunnyx asks her to defeat the villain as usual, revealed to be Cat Noir akumatized into "Cat Blanc". From her Burrow, Bunnyx observes how the destruction came across: knowing her identity, Adrien begins dating Marinette, but Gabriel forces her to break things off in order to akumatize her. To save Marinette from the akuma, Adrien transforms into Cat Noir and destroys it, revealing his identity to both Marinette and Hawk Moth. Hawk Moth then reveals his identity and plan to revive his wife to Ladybug and Cat Noir in their final battle, and uses his son's resulting emotional distress to akumatize him into Cat Blanc, giving him the power of ultimate destruction; his power goes awry, destroying Paris and the Moon. The present Ladybug successfully frees Cat Blanc from the akuma. Although unaware of what happened, Ladybug traces the temporal catastrophe back to her gift, and returns to the past to erase her signature, restoring things.

Knowing that it is the first anniversary of Emilie's disappearance, all of Adrien's friends send him video messages wishing him well. Adrien's aunt Amelie Graham de Vanily and cousin Félix visit from London, and Amelie demands that Gabriel return his and Emilie's wedding rings, which are family heirlooms, which he refuses to do. Angry with the Agrestes for not attending his father's recent funeral, Félix, disguised as Adrien, steals his phone, intercepts the video messages, and sends a spiteful and mocking reply. Shocked by Adrien's supposed hostility, Alya, Juleka, and Rose are akumatized back into Lady Wi-Fi, Reflekta, and Princess Fragrance as "The Punishers Trio" in order to get rid of Félix. During the ensuing fight, Félix offers to help Hawk Moth if he gives him the wedding rings. However, the heroes overcome him and emerge victorious. Afterwards, Félix apologizes to Adrien for his actions, but secretly steals Gabriel's ring with sleight of hand, returning it to his mother.

To follow up on her promise to destroy Marinette's life, Lila plants exam answers in her bag, pretends to have been shoved down a flight of stairs, and claims she stole her grandmother's necklace in order to turn Marinette's friends against her. Principal Damocles falls for her lies and expels Marinette from school. Hawk Moth turns Nathalie back into Catalyst, and assumes his Scarlet Moth form to akumatize Marinette and her friends. Marinette, as "Princess Justice", nearly surrenders the Ladybug Miraculous under Scarlet Moth's orders, but Catalyst succumbs to exhaustion caused by the Peacock Miraculous, distracting Scarlet Moth and cancelling the procedure. Gabriel forbids Nathalie from taking any more action to protect her health, but she goes behind Gabriel's back and forges a sentimonster in Ladybug's image in order to trap Cat Noir. Ladybug and Cat Noir redeem the false Ladybug, but Hawk Moth intervenes and escapes with Mayura before they can unmask her. Afterwards, Adrien threatens Lila into proving Marinette's innocence, and Marinette is allowed to go back to school, although Lila is still rewarded with becoming Gabriel's newest model.

Marinette babysits Chris while Nino and Alya go to see a movie. When Chris finds a chest full of birthday gifts for Adrien, Marinette claims that she is secretly one of Santa Claus' helpers and that the chest contains Christmas gifts. Overwhelmed by the desire for Christmas to come early, Chris is akumatized into "Christmaster", a villain who controls an army of toys and seeks Santa Claus. Ladybug and Cat Noir are forced to team up with Santa in order to defeat him. Afterwards, Marinette admits that the chest contains gifts for a boy, much to Chris' disgust.

Meanwhile, Marinette's parents are catering the event while Adrien and Kagami are made to attend by their parents; the three teens ditch the party to have fun by themselves. However, realizing how happy Adrein and Kagami are together, Marinette leaves in distress. As part of his latest plot, Hawk Moth akumatizes the Bourgeoises into "Heart Hunter", a two-faced floating head that consumes love. Ladybug collects the Dragon Miraculous and recruits Ryuko in order to sabotage her time with Adrien, snubbing Chloé in the process. However, Hawk Moth, knowing she will have to rely on one of her allies, follows her to Master Fu's location; Master Fu uses the Turtle Miraculous to transform into "Jade Turtle" and defends himself from Hawk Moth and Mayura, although they successfully claim the Miracle Box. He approaches Chloé and turns her against Ladybug, offering her the Bee Miraculous and freeing her parents in exchange for the heroes' Miraculouses. Hawk Moth then akumatizes her into "Miracle Queen". Elsewhere, Adrien and Kagami are about to kiss while Marinette discovers Master Fu has vanished and has an emotional breakdown in Luka's arms.

Miracle Queen sends out an army of bees to brainwash all of Paris. Luka and Kagami sacrifice themselves to save Marinette and Adrien, who escape through the Seine. Miracle Queen summons all of the temporary Miraculous holders to her location, revealing their identities to Hawk Moth. Ladybug regroups with Cat Noir and uses the Dragon Miraculous to unify into "Dragon Bug". Together, they battle their brainwashed allies, stealing the Snake Miraculous back from Viperion, which Cat Noir uses to unify into "Snake Noir". With their new powers, they defeat Miracle Queen and seize her akuma, although Chloé remains bitter and angry. Ladybug proves unable to figure out a plan to rescue Jade Turtle from Hawk Moth, Mayura, and their sentimonster. Jade Turtle thus formally transfers the title of Guardian of the Miraculouses to Ladybug, sacrificing his memories in the process. Hawk Moth and Mayura escape, while Chloé is permanently expelled from the team for her betrayal. In the aftermath, Marinette finds a letter Fu had left for her, and brings him to Marianne, and together they depart Paris. Along with the rest of their friends, Marinette and Adrien go out for ice cream, and begin dating Luka and Kagami respectively. Elsewhere, Nathalie gives Gabriel Master Fu's tablet, which contains the decrypted Miraculous spellbook.

Gabriel repairs the Peacock Miraculous and unifies it with the Butterfly Miraculous to transform into "Shadow Moth". Meanwhile, Marinette tries to adjust to her new role as the Guardian of the Miraculouses while also managing her relationship with Luka, but it begins to fracture when she is forced to ditch several of their dates to protect Paris as Ladybug. Hurt by Marinette being unable to tell him the truth behind her disappearances, he falls into despair and is akumatized and amokized into "Truth", gaining the ability to force people to tell the truth, and a sentimonster, "Light Eye", who freezes his victims in place. He finds out Jagged Stone is his and Juleka's father, but not Marinette's secret. After his defeat, Marinette, unable to handle the stress of lying, breaks up with Luka.

Adrien's relationship with Kagami begins to fall apart when he is forced to ditch several of their dates to protect Paris as Cat Noir. In the latest of these incidents, Adrien transforms to protect Ladybug from Truth, and later lies to Kagami that he had to retrieve his lucky charm, unaware that he had actually dropped it earlier and Kagami had found it. She confronts him over his constant lying and, heartbroken, is akumatized by Shadow Moth into "Lies", a ghost-like villain with the ability to paralyze anyone who has ever lied. After her defeat, Kagami, understanding that Adrien wasn't being malicious but still hurt by his behavior, breaks off their relationship.

Devastated, Marinette's friends are akumatized back into Lady Wi-Fi, Reflekta, Princess Fragrance, Timebreaker, and Horrificator as the "Gang of Secrets", who want to force Marinette to reveal her secrets so they can renew their friendship. Ladybug successfully helps Alya resist her akumatization and recruits her as Rena Rouge to help defeat the others. After the victory, Marinette reconciles with her friends. In private with Alya, unable to shoulder her secrets alone, Marinette reveals her identity as Ladybug.

Marinette meets with a visiting Master Fu and Marianne, who have married and are living together in London. At home, she is confronted by Su-Han, a "Celestial Guardian" of the Miraculouses and Fu's teacher from when he trained to be a Guardian himself. Dismayed that Marinette and Fu have broken much of his sacred rules, Su-Han takes the Miracle Box, telling her that she is not fit to be the new Guardian, or to protect Paris. When Cat Noir refuses to relinquish his Miraculous on Su-Han's orders, the heroes attack Su-Han and escape with the Miracle Box. Su-Han attacks Master Fu and steals his cane to pursue the heroes, and the confrontation agitates Fu enough for Shadow Moth to akumatize him into "Furious Fu", a painter with supernatural kung fu skills and Chinese paper talismans that can bring any concept to life. Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Furious Fu, impressing Su-Han, making him allow Marinette to continue being the Guardian, also deciding to stay in Paris to learn more about the modern world.

Chloé's half-sister Zoé Lee comes to Paris from New York to be with her family. She quickly makes friends with Marinette, but becomes selfish and mean-spirited while around Chloé in order to fit in with her family. Quickly realizing her mistake, Zoé laments to her stepfather about never being able to be herself, and decides to leave behind her prized sneakers in a cellar at the roof of the hotel. Shadow Moth akumatizes the shoes and transforms Zoé into "Sole Crusher", a sparkly gold supervillain who can grow bigger by stepping on people, who are absorbed into her shoes.

With help from Thomas Astruc, Mayor Bourgeois and Bob Roth, Marinette's class begins filming a superhero movie, with Zoé in the leading role. Chloé, jealous of her half-sister's casting, convinces her father and Roth to allow her to have creative control, taking Zoé's role. She soon forces numerous rewrites to turn the film into her own personal fantasy, transforming the lead heroine into "Queen Banana" (a pastiche of Queen Bee), with her own banana-themed car, and a giant gorilla supervillain that shoots exploding bananas. Frustrated by the students' inability to meet her demands, she leaves the set and Marinette convinces her peers to film the original script without Chloé's interference. Shadow Moth transforms Chloé into an actual Queen Banana, complete with a flying car and a gorilla sentimonster named "Banana Boom-Boom", all of which can turn people into bananas. Ladybug and Cat Noir try fighting her, but are forced to seek help, causing the former to give Zoé the Bee Miraculous, transforming her into the superheroine "Vesperia". Together, they defeat Queen Banana, but Chloé refuses to accept Ladybug's Magical Charm. Zoé tricks her into taking the charm while trying to reconcile with her, which successfully prevents her next akumatization, much to Shadow Moth's frustration.

Rose disappears in the middle of class, making a disheartened Juleka reveal that Rose is in the hospital, suffering from a chronic illness, which she has kept secret from everyone else. When Rose returns to school, everyone begins to give her special treatment, which ultimately makes Juleka break down over ruining her relationship with her friends, despite Rose's attempt to console her. Shadow Moth akumatizes her back into Reflekta, with a sentimonster, "Guiltrip", that can suck people into an abyss that makes them fall victim to their guilt, which transforms them into copies of Reflekta. Ladybug and Cat Noir are sucked into Guiltrip, where they see Rose successfully fighting off the guilt. Realizing Rose can help them, Ladybug grants her the Pig Miraculous, transforming her into the superheroine "Pigella", whose Gift can show a target their heart's greatest desire.

Marinette continues to avoid Luka after their break-up, prompting their friends to bring them together at Luka and Juleka's birthday party. A visiting Jagged Stone continues to try and spend time with his children much to Anarka's disapproval. At the party, Luka is saddened by Marinette avoiding him and Juleka feels overwhelmed by her inability to speak up, making them both targets for Shadow Moth until their friends are able to comfort them. Jagged tries to give his children an album from his and Anarka's former band, Crocoduo, and ends up in an argument with her. Shadow Moth akumatizes them back into Guitar Villain and Captain Hardrock as "Crocoduel", and the two villains fight one another in the sky causing destruction across Paris. To stop their battle, Ladybug recruits Juleka with the Tiger Miraculous, transforming her into the superheroine "Purple Tigress", whose "Collision" can create a powerful punch. Once the villains are defeated, Juleka speaks up to her parents to get them to forgive each other. Marinette and Luka reconcile, deciding to remain friends.

Ever since Chloé revealed the temporary Miraculous holders' identities in "Miracle Queen", Gabriel and Nathalie have been tracking them with the spy camera sentimonster "Optigami". Gabriel hatches a plan to lead them to Ladybug's house, so he stages an award ceremony where he uses a sentimonster copy of Alec Cataldi to rile up Audrey, turning her back into Style Queen. She eliminates all the invited guests, who are the temporary Miraculous holders. Marinette and Adrien end up trapped together in an elevator, unable to transform, making the former call the horse kwami, Kaalki, to bring Alya to Marinette's house. Alya grabs the Fox and Bee Miraculouses for Marinette's plan, as well as the Turtle Miraculous for additional help. She gives Nino the Turtle Miraculous, unaware that he had been replaced by a sentimonster copy, allowing Shadow Moth further his plan, transforming the copy into Senti-Carapace and possessing the Miraculous with Optigami. Using the Bee Miraculous, Ladybug transforms into "LadyBee", and with Senti-Carapace's help, she defeats Style Queen. However, Ladybug soon realizes the deception and has Cat Noir destroy the Turtle Miraculous, releasing Optigami, whom Shadow Moth dispells. Once everything has been restored, Marinette, understanding she needs an ally who can help her in a tight situation, permanently entrusts Alya with the Fox Miraculous.

Marinette has a nightmare in which Alya reveals her secret identity and betrays her to Shadow Moth, allowing him to acquire the Miracle Box. To prevent this, she goes to Alya's house and tells her about the dream, though Alya ensures her she will never betray her trust. After the talk, Shadow Moth calls Alya, addressing her as Rena Rouge, and reveals that he has captured her family, Nino, and then Marinette using "Sentibubbler", a sentimonster copy of the Bubbler. To ensure their safety, Shadow Moth demands she betray Ladybug and Cat Noir by luring them into a trap and surrender the Fox Miraculous to him, or else the bubbles will be sent to space. Instead, Alya secretly transforms into Rena Rouge and uses several illusions to fool him, also allowing Marinette to safely transform and unify with the Horse Miraculous to become "Pegabug". After escaping the bubble, Pegabug briefly takes control of Sentibubbler before Shadow Moth dispells him, and saves Alya's family from falling. Alya tells Marinette that Shadow Moth now believes that Rena Rouge will never be called on again, reaffirming her that the nightmare will never happen.

Alya continues to use the Fox Miraculous in hiding to act as "Rena Furtive" and protect Ladybug and Cat Noir. To ensure that her operation isn't compromised, Marinette has Alya lie to Nino about no longer using a Miraculous, which, along with a series of coincidences, begins to convince him that Alya has fallen in love with Cat Noir. To prove this belief to Adrien, Nino begins a film noir-styled investigation, culminating in him recording Cat Noir and Alya flirting together; in actuality, Cat Noir is making sure Alya isn't in love with him. Nino presents his findings to Adrien the next day, and in the process reveals his and Alya's identities as Carapace and Rena Rouge. Shadow Moth takes advantage of Nino's emotions to akumatize him into "Rocketear", who can throw exploding tears from his eyes. With help from Rena Furtive, Ladybug reveals the truth about the video, allowing Nino to reject Shadow Moth's influence. Afterwards, Adrien begins to question Ladybug allowing Nino and Alya to know each other's identities despite her rules, while Alya tells Nino about her being Rena Furtive.

Mayor Bourgeois unveils "Project Oxygen", which will cut down the trees at the Place des Vosges and replace them with an artificial air filter. Mylène and Ivan protest against this, rallying up support from the rest of their class. When Marinette points out the flaws in the plan and Mylène advocates for better solutions, the people of Paris quickly turn against Project Oxygen, humiliating Mayor Bourgeois. Shadow Moth akumatizes and amokizes the Mayor back into Malediktator, who, with his sentimonster "Mega Leech", splits himself into thousands of tiny clones, complete with akumas and amoks, in order to take over the minds of every Parisian. To defeat them all, Ladybug recruits Mylène with the Mouse Miraculous, allowing her to become "Polymouse". Ladybug then recruits Vesperia, Carapace, Ryuko and Pegasus; using their combined powers, they defeat Mega Leech. Mayor Bourgeois makes the right decision and decides to instead plant more trees. However, Gabriel, who partly financed the project, is angry that Adrien "took a stand against him" by joining the protest.

Marinette leaves with her parents for London to visit her aunt Shu Yin over the weekend. Because of this, she entrusts Alya with her Miraculous to ensure Paris is protected. Wanting to akumatize Markov again, Shadow Moth creates a sentimonster, "Hack-San"; a living thumb drive infected with a computer virus. Hack-San then infects Markov with negative emotions, allowing Shadow Moth to re-akumatize him into Robostus, with the new ability to brainwash people and force them to give up their most prized possession. Alya uses the Ladybug Miraculous to transform into "Scarabella", and defeats Robostus with the help of Marinette and an initially-skeptical Cat Noir. Later, Ladybug meets with Cat Noir to apologize for her absence. Cat Noir confesses that he thinks Ladybug is going to leave him some day, but she quickly assures him otherwise.

Paris hosts a careers expo which Marinette visits, unsure of what she wants to do in the future. There, she meets Luka and then Adrien (who is also undecided about his future, not wanting to do what his parents want him to do anymore); Luka advises them to listen to their hearts and do what they love. While hosting a show mocking "useless" careers at the expo, Alec Cataldi suffers a breakdown, realizing that he has wasted his own career and dreams. Shadow Moth akumatizes Alec into "Wishmaker", who turns people into living versions of their childhood dreams. Ladybug recruits Viperion for the battle, where both she and Cat Noir get hit by Wishmaker, revealing their secret identities. Viperion erases both of these moments and allows the heroes to defeat Wishmaker, keeping his knowledge of their secret identities to himself. Marinette decides to fulfill all of her dreams at once and Adrien decides that it's okay not to know what he wants to do in the future. Alec begins hosting a new show to help people rather than mock them while also living out his own childhood dream.

On the first day of school, Marinette and Adrien receive their Miraculouses after "helping" Master Fu in dire situations. On the same day, Gabriel starts using the Butterfly Miraculous and creates a supervillain, Stoneheart, in order to get the heroes' Miraculouses and wish his wife back to life.

While preparing for Christmas Eve, Adrien is about to spend his first Christmas without his mother. Thinking that his father does not want to celebrate the holidays this year, Adrien turns into Cat Noir and leaves his home to sing his anger in snowy Paris. When his father discovers that Adrien is not in his room, he becomes extremely worried. Hearing the news, Marinette transforms into Ladybug and finds Adrien, who has reverted to his normal self, in the company of a Santa. Ladybug thinks the Santa is akumatized and wants to trouble Adrien, so she pushes him away. Scorned, the Santa actually becomes a victim of Hawk Moth as "Santa Claws",^[d] who plans to make this Christmas the worst in the history of Paris.

After her estranged mother is akumatized, Chloé finds the Bee Miraculous and publicly becomes a superhero named Queen Bee. She engineers a situation to make her seem like a hero, but this threatens her future with the Miraculous. After a change of heart, Chloé decides to become truly heroic to save her akumatized father.^[237]

She ends up picking Ryuko, mostly because she wanted her to stop dating Adrien, but this leads to Chloé getting akumatized, all the Miraculous holders' identities revealed, her being expelled from the team, and Marinette being made the Guardian of the Miraculous.^[241]

Realizing that Ladybug's caution is the reason why she always wins, Shadow Moth prepares a diabolical plan to create a supervillain who can force his victims to take all sorts of risks. When Marinette learns that Adrien is leaving Paris for several weeks with Lila, the new face of the Agreste brand, she will do anything to stop him from doing so. But until what point? Will she reveal her secret identity for the sake of love? And would Adrien finally face his father?^[242]

After defeating Mr. Pigeon for the 51st time using "space" powerups, Marinette's class visits New York City. Just before landing, their flight is raided by American supervillain Techno-Pirate, who can shut down and steal technology, but are stopped by the local superheroes: Majestia, a woman with god-like powers; Uncanny Valley, a gynoid in the form of a teenage girl; Knightowl, a woman disguised as a man with gadgets, and her sidekick Sparrow (her daughter, disguised as a boy). Marinette's class and a class from Queens have a field trip at the New-York Historical Society, where Hawk Moth akumatizes Techno-Pirate into "Techlonizer", who can steal and disable any technology he touches, to distract Ladybug, Cat Noir, Sparrow and Uncanny Valley, as he secretly gets the Eagle Miraculous on display at the museum. During the fight, Cat Noir accidentally destroys Uncanny Valley, and despite Ladybug reviving her, the American superheroes berate their French counterparts. Disappointed, Adrien renounces his Miraculous and decides to return to France, also disheartening Marinette. Later, Hawk Moth gives Techlonizer the Eagle Miraculous, turning him into "Miraclonizer", who uses the Eagle's power of Liberation to free the American heroes from their codes and ethics, making them go berserk. Uncanny Valley, able to deduce Ladybug and Cat Noir's identities, recruits them to fight Miraclonizer. During the battle, Ladybug seizes the Eagle Miraculous and gives it to Sparrow, who uses it to transform into "Eagle" and return the American heroes to normal.

Marinette visits Shanghai alone, both to visit her uncle Wang's 60th birthday and to see Adrien at a fashion show. However, on her first day, all her belongings — including Tikki and her Miraculous — are stolen by Fei, a young Chinese girl. Roaming the city all afternoon unable to understand anyone, Marinette soon runs into Fei, who first poses as an uninterested stranger, until she reveals she stole them to sell them to Cash, a greedy pawn shop owner who once killed Fei's father and destroyed his kung fu school, which he won't reveal until she pays a very high price. Fei later steals Marinette's belongings back from him and reveals the "kung fu school" is a front for training guardians of the "Prodigious", a magical jewel that can turn its holder into any animal from different versions of the Five Animals, provided they embody the value said animal represents. Hawk Moth overhears their conversation, and akumatizes Cash into "King Cash", whose bladed hand fan can cut through anything. King Cash opens the cave where the Prodigious is stored, and Hawk Moth uses Fei's father's bracelet to retrieve the jewel, which is almost immediately taken by Fei. Now the superhero "Ladydragon", she helps Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat King Cash, but Hawk Moth reuses the akuma to turn the Prodigious' guardian spirit, Mei Shi, into "Yan Luo Shi", who has immense size and can instantly destroy anything with his lasers. During the battle against Yan Luo Shi, Cat Noir and Hawk Moth are destroyed, and Fei has a crisis of faith. Marinette helps her overcome it, and soon leaps back into battle; with Ladybug's help, she defeats Yan Luo Shi. Later Ladydragon has Cash arrested, and Mei Shi transforms into a kwami-like creature to guard Fei. She then joins Marinette, Adrien and three Shanghainese boys, Chung, Kang and Jiao, for dinner at uncle Wang's restaurant.
