- ^ In July 1893, to diminish the demand of France, Siam undertook a demarche in Washington. As there was no diplomatic representation in Washington before, Phra Suriya Nuvatr was sent to Washington from London as a special envoy to ask the US to act as an arbitrator in this issue.[1]
