List of current champions in WWE
WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based out of Stamford, Connecticut. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines.
WWE divides its roster between five brands, where wrestlers exclusively compete, albeit with some exceptions. The three primary brands that WWE promotes are Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.[1][2] Specialty brands include 205 Live, which is for male wrestlers 205 lbs. and under (designated by WWE as cruiserweights), and NXT UK, which is for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom—both of these specialty brands are considered as being part of NXT.[3]
Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT UK each have a primary and secondary championship for male wrestlers, a singles championship for female wrestlers, and a tag team championship for male wrestlers. There are two tag team championships for female wrestlers—one shared by Raw and SmackDown, and the other on NXT. There is one championship for the cruiserweight wrestlers that is shared by NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live. There are also two tertiary championships—one which is open to anyone, regardless of gender or WWE employment status, and one exclusively for male wrestlers on NXT.
There are currently 21 championships in WWE. As of September 15, 2021, among the five current brands, 26 wrestlers officially hold championships (with one vacancy). This list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.
Overview
Men
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the WWE Championship on Raw, the Universal Championship on SmackDown, and the NXT Championship on NXT — all regarded as world championships. The WWE Championship is held by first-time champion Big E, who defeated Bobby Lashley on the September 13, 2021 episode of Raw after cashing out his Money in the Bank ladder match contract.[4] The Universal Championship is held by Roman Reigns, who is in his second reign. He won the title by defeating previous champion "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman, who Reigns pinned, in a No Holds Barred Triple Threat match at Payback on August 30, 2020.[5] The NXT Championship is currently vacant, as most recent champion Samoa Joe relinquished the title due to injuries.[6]
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the United States Championship on Raw, the Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown, and the North American Championship on NXT. The United States Championship is held by Damian Priest, who is in his first reign. He defeated Sheamus on August 21, 2021 at SummerSlam.[7] The Intercontinental Championship is held by two-time champion King Nakamura, who defeated Apollo Crews on the August 13, 2021 episode of SmackDown.[8] The North American Championship is held by first-time champion Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, who defeated Bronson Reed on the June 29, 2021 episode of NXT.[9]
Women
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the Raw Women's Championship, the SmackDown Women's Championship, and the NXT Women's Championship — all regarded as world championships. The Raw Women's Championship is held by record six-time champion Charlotte Flair, who defeated previous champion Nikki A.S.H. and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match on August 21, 2021 at SummerSlam.[10] The SmackDown Women's Championship is held by four-time champion Becky Lynch, who defeated Bianca Belair on August 21, 2021 at SummerSlam.[11] The NXT Women's Championship is held by Raquel González, who is in her first reign. She won the title by defeating Io Shirai on Night 1 of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on April 7, 2021.[12]
Tag team
Men
Raw, SmackDown, and NXT each have a tag team championship for male wrestlers. The Raw Tag Team Championship is held by first time champion RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle), who defeated AJ Styles and Omos on August 21, 2021 at SummerSlam.[13] The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is held by The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso), who are in their fifth reign. They defeated Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio on July 18, 2021 during the Money in the Bank Kickoff pre-show.[14] The NXT Tag Team Championship is held by MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee), who are in their first reign. They won the vacant title by defeating Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) and Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde) in a Triple Threat Tag Team match during Night 1 of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on April 7, 2021; previous champions Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan had vacated the titles due to Burch suffering a legitimate shoulder injury.[15]
Women
There are two tag team championships for female wrestlers — the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, which is shared by Raw and SmackDown, and the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship, which is defended on NXT. The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is held by Natalya and Tamina from SmackDown, who are in their first reign, both as a team and individually. They defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler on the May 14, 2021 episode of SmackDown.[16] The NXT Women's Tag Team Championship is held by first-time champions Io Shirai and Zoey Stark. They defeated The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) on July 6, 2021 at The Great American Bash.[17]
UK
The top title for male wrestlers in NXT UK is the NXT United Kingdom Championship. It is held by Ilja Dragunov, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Walter at NXT TakeOver 36 on August 22, 2021.[18] The top title for female wrestlers is the NXT UK Women's Championship. It is held by first-time title holder Meiko Satomura, who won the title by defeating Kay Lee Ray on the June 10, 2021 episode of NXT UK (the actual date the match took place is unknown).[19] The secondary championship for male wrestlers is the NXT UK Heritage Cup, which has a special stipulation in which all matches are contested under "British Rounds Rules". It is held by Tyler Bate, who is in his first reign. He defeated A-Kid on the May 20, 2021 episode of NXT UK (the actual date the match took place is unknown).[20] There is only one tag team championship in NXT UK, and it is for male wrestlers. The NXT UK Tag Team Championship is held by Pretty Deadly (Lewis Howley and Sam Stoker), who are in their first reign. They defeated Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) on the February 25, 2021 episode of NXT UK (the actual date the match took place is unknown).[21]
Tertiary and specialty
The WWE 24/7 Championship is a tertiary championship shared across all five brands and is open to anyone regardless of gender (including non-WWE personnel). It can be defended anytime, anywhere, as long as a WWE referee is present. The title is held by first-time champion Reggie, who pinned Akira Tozawa on the July 19, 2021 episode of Raw. He won the title under his previous ring name, Reginald, which was changed to Reggie on July 23.[22]
The NXT Cruiserweight Championship is the only championship of the 205 Live brand and is also defended on NXT and NXT UK. It is for wrestlers 205 lb (93 kg) and under (referred to as cruiserweights); the only championship in WWE with a weight limit. The title is held by Kushida from NXT, who is in his first reign. He defeated Santos Escobar on the April 13, 2021 episode of NXT.[23]
The Million Dollar Championship is a tertiary championship available to male wrestlers on NXT. Cameron Grimes is the current champion in his first reign. He defeated LA Knight at TakeOver 36 on August 22, 2021; had Grimes lost, Ted DiBiase would have become Knight's butler.[24]
Current champions
Tables with a "Days recognized" column means that WWE officially recognizes a different number of days that a wrestler has held a title due to an event airing on tape delay. In some cases, particularly recent NXT UK events, the actual date an event took place is unknown.
