- Tynron (
United Kingdom): 450-ton, three-masted brigantine launched by Messrs Harvey and Company of Hayle, Cornwall.[1]

- Servia (
United Kingdom): 8,500 ton Cunard steamer, launched by J & G Thomson of Clydebank (later John Brown & Company). The second, largest ship to be built; the Great Eastern (launched in 1858) the largest.[2]

United Kingdom): 1850 ton (carrying capacity) steamer, launched by John Readhead & Sons of South Shields for Edward Hain and Son of St Ives, Cornwall. The third ship in the Hain's fleet.[3]

Netherlands): 2700 ton (carrying capacity) steamer, launched by Fijenoord for NSBM.[4][5] Originally named Nederland.[6] Sold by NSBM to Nederlandsch Amerikaansche Stoomvaartmaatschappij in May 1882[7] and renamed Leerdam.[8]

United Kingdom): 8,821 ton Inman Line steamer was launched at Barrow. A donkey boiler exploded on deck killing four men and injuring nine others.[9]

- HMS Polyphemus (
United Kingdom): the Royal Navy torpedo ship was launched at Chatham Dockyard.[10]

- HMS Canada (
United Kingdom): Comus-class screw corvette in Portsmouth dockyard.[11]

- Mount's Bay (
United Kingdom): 3,000 ton steamer, built by Messrs Schlesinger, Davis and Co for the Mount's Bay Steamship Company and launched at Wallsend.[12]

United Kingdom): the Royal Navy Comus-class corvette was launched at Portsmouth.[13]

United Kingdom): the 4,000 ton steamer, launched at Messrs Atken and Mansell's shipyard, Whiteinch, Glasgow for the Union Company on the Cape of Good Hope Service.[15]
