Lovely Professional University (LPU) is a private university situated in Phagwara, Punjab, India.[2] The university was established in 2005[2] by Lovely International Trust, under The Lovely Professional University Act, 2005 (Punjab Act 25 of 2005)[3] and started operation in 2006.[4]

Campus[]

The university campus spreads over 600 acres (2.4 km2) in boundary on the outskirts of Jalandhar and houses 10,000 students (as of 2010).[5][6]

Affiliations[]

In India, LPU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (U),[7] the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)[8][dead link] and the Council of Architecture (COA)[9] and approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).[10] It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).[11]

LPU's School of Agriculture is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).[12] Internationally, LPU is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)[13] and a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).[14] The distance education programmes are approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB).[15] LPU offers overall more than 50 courses.[16]

11 students from Lovely Professional University have been selected as a part of the Indian contingent that will represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.[17][18][19] The players will represent the nation in Wrestling, Hockey Athletics and Paralympics

LPU Verto Neeraj Chopra Creates History; Becomes 2nd Indian to Win Olympic Gold and Lovely Professional University will gift INR 50[20] lacs to Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who is pursuing his Bachelors in Arts (B.A.) from the university[21] [22] The University will also reward its wrestler student Bajrang Punia with Rs. 10 lacs[23] for winning the Bronze Medal in the men’s freestyle 65 kg wrestling category[24]

Rs. 70 lakh for its seven hockey players of the Indian team which won an Olympic medal after a wide gap of 41 years[25]

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF[27]) ranked Lovely Professional University 99 overall in 2020, and 78 among universities. It also ranked it 49 in the management ranking 29 in the pharmacy ranking and 87 in the engineering ranking.
