Mahanpur (also called Naveenpur[citation needed]) is a town and a newly created tehsil in Kathua district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Earlier, Mahanpur was a town in Basohli tehsil. Mahanpur town is located about 50 km to the north of district headquarter Kathua and about 32 km south of the Sub Divisional headquarter Basohli. It is designated as new Tehsil Headquarter. There is a no. of educational institutions besides some of the major ones are Govt. Degree College, Govt. Middle school , Govt Girls School Mahanpur and the biggest of the all is Govt Higher secondary School Mahanpur and amongst the private ones are the oldest and most successful ones are New light Public school, Bal Vidhya School, Adarsh Vidhya Niketan, Brahm Rishi and few other.

Its origin is sometime in the 5th century . There is a Jagdamba Temple built in the 16th century and Shiv temple in the centre of the Town.

It's a beautiful place with a lot of natural resources of water(Baa/Bowlis).[citation needed]

The inhabitants of the village are very friendly.[citation needed]

This small town is famous for its non- vegetarian achar(Pickle) mainly for fish achar and also for its tuni aala murga which is cooked by many of the road side small shops. It is located about 119 km (74 mi) from the union territory capital Jammu (winter) and 299 km (186 mi) from Srinagar (summer).

Mahanpur (town) 919 has an area of 363 square kilometers.[1] Mahanpur borders Bani and Duggan Tehsil to the north, Billawar to the west and Dharkalan to the south.
