Founded in 1984, Maine Coast Waldorf School serves some 295 students from early childhood through high school. The campus in Freeport, Maine, United States, provides students with beautifully designed buildings and acres of outdoor classrooms and woodland trails. Maine Coast Waldorf School fosters independent thinking, creative problem solving, and a sense of connection to equip students for future challenges, while inspiring them to create their own opportunities.

As a Waldorf School, Maine Coast offers a developmentally based, experiential curriculum that addresses the needs of the growing child at every stage. To enrich and inspire life-long learning, the arts are integrated into all academic disciplines. Maine Coast Waldorf School offers education for life!

Maine Coast Waldorf School is a member of New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and is accredited by these three organizations.

High School Building (2017)[]

To consolidate all school grades served to a single campus, in 2017 a new high school building was built on the main campus.[1] The building was designed by Portland, Maine architecture firm . It is the first Passive House Certified[2] high school in the North America and the first high school globally certified through .[3] The building is also certified as compliant with the Maine Advanced Buildings administered by .[4] Additionally, roof mounted Photovoltaics are sized such that building may operate as a Zero-energy building---creating as much energy as it consumes.[5]
