Marco Odermatt (born 8 October 1997) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who races in giant slalom and the speed disciplines. Odermatt competed for Switzerland at two Junior World Championships and two World Championships.

Career[]

At the 2016 Junior World Championships in Sochi, Russia, Odermatt was eleventh in downhill, took bronze in super-G, failed to finish the combined, won gold in giant slalom, and failed to finish the slalom. At the 2018 Junior Worlds in Davos, Odermatt won an unprecedented five gold medals (combined, downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and team event).

As a new junior world champion, Odermatt made his World Cup debut in March 2016 in the giant slalom at the season finals in St. Moritz. He gained his first World Cup podium at Kranjska Gora in March 2019,[1] and his first win came in December 2019 in a super-G at Beaver Creek, Colorado.[2]

In the next season, Odermatt started out strong with a 2nd place in giant slalom in Sölden, Austria.[3] On December 7th 2021, Marco Odermatt achieved his first victory in giant slalom. [4] He achieved 7 further podiums later in the season and fought Alexis Pinturault for both the giant slalom and overall world cup tour titles, but failed to win either of them and came in second in both rankings by the end.

Odermatt won the 2021–22 World Cup overall title.
