Masaru Yamada (山田優, Yamada Masaru, born 14 June 1994)[1] is a Japanese right-handed épée fencer, 2019 individual Asian champion, and 2021 team Olympic champion.[2] In 2018, he won the gold medal in the men's team épée event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.[1] Four years earlier, he won the silver medal in the same event at the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea.[citation needed]

In 2017, he won one of the bronze medals in the men's individual épée event at the 2017 Summer Universiade held in Taipei, Taiwan.[3] He also competed in the men's team épée event.[3]

In 2019, he won the gold medal in the men's épée event at the 2019 Asian Fencing Championships held in Chiba, Japan.[4]

Yamada won the FIE Men's Épée Grand Prix in Budapest, Hungary in March 2020.[5]

Yamada won the gold medal in Men's team épée in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics.[6]
