Matrix Chambers is a barristers' chambers in Gray's Inn, London, Brussels, Belgium and Geneva, Switzerland. The set was founded in April 2000 by 22 barristers from 7 different chambers and now has over 90 independent and specialist lawyers who work throughout the UK and have an extensive international presence.
Set up in 2000, Matrix broke new ground in being a specialist set, focusing on criminal law, constitutional law and human rights, with an international perspective. Matrix is governed by its core values and has a reputation as a professional and approachable set where diversity, accessibility and client care are widely championed.
History[]
Matrix was founded shortly before the implementation of the Human Rights Act in October 2000. It caused mild controversy when it was leaked that "a new chambers was being set up with many of the leading and most high-profile barristers in the area of human rights – who had all been headhunted."[1]
Members include: Lord Brennan QC, Professor Conor Gearty, Lord Ken Macdonald QC, Clare Montgomery QC, Tim Owen QC, Philippe Sands QC, Hugh Tomlinson QC, Professor Takis Tridimas, Ben Silverstone, and Helen Mountfield QC.[2]
