Mihrimah Sultan (daughter of Murad III)

Mihrimah Sultan was the daughter of Murad III and Safiye Sultan.

Birth[]

It is not known for sure who her mother was. There are allegations that most often claim that she was the daughter of Semsiruhsar Hatun and that she was born in 1592. Although, when Semsiruhsar Hatun died, it's only mentioned Rukiye Sultan as her daughter. Mihrimah is not mentioned, which may indicate that she was not even her daughter. There are also some allegations that she was the daughter of Safiye Sultan, and if that is true, she was not born before 1579.It would also make sense if she was born shortly after the death of Mihrimah Sultan,a daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, in whose honor she was named. Additionally, the 'Ottoman Register' indicates that in 1595, when her father died, she was among his elder daughters,^[1] which most likely indicates that she was the daughter of Safiye Sultan.

Marriages[]

It is not known whether she was married during the reign of her brother Mehmed III; if the marriage took place, it was most likely concluded around 1599;it was most likely an insignificant pasha, so the marriage went unnoticed. She was married to Mihrahur Ahmed Pasha on 21st February 1613.^[2] Some sources even mention that she was even married to him at the end of 1604. Ahmed Pasha was the governor of Rumelia and Damascus. After Ahmed Pasha died in 1618, she married Çerkes Mehmed Ali Pasha.^[3] Mehmed Ali Pasha took the place of the governor of Damascus in 1618, so it can be assumed that she was probably married to him in the same year after death of her husband. Mehmed Pasha was appointed vizier of the dome in 1621, and probably moved to Istanbul together with Mihrimah Sultan. During reign of Murat IV, he became Grand Vizier on April 3, 1624, until he died in Tokat on January 28, 1625. It is not known if she had issue from these marriages.

Death[]

The further life of Mihrimah Sultan is not known, as well as whether she had more marriages. It is not known when she died.^[4] She probably died during the reign of Murat IV, but this has not been confirmed. When she died, she was buried in the Mausoleum of Murat III, which is located in the courtyard of the Hagia Sophia.
