Morè (clan)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The More is a Maratha clan.[1][3] [2]

The clan can also be found in Mahar caste. Members of the mahar clan also use the clan name as their surname.[3]

History[]

The Maratha More clan ruled the Jaoli State in the valley of Jawali, in Satara district near present-day Mahabaleshwar, as a feudatory of the Adilshahi. In 1656, under controversial circumstances, Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha empire, killed the ruler Chandrarao Morè, and seized the valley.[4][5]
