Otto Preminger as Mr. Freeze
Eli Wallach as Mr. Freeze
  • Mr. Freeze appeared in the 1960s Batman television series, portrayed by George Sanders in the first two-part appearance, Otto Preminger in the second two-part appearance, and Eli Wallach in the third two-part appearance.[1][2][3] Sanders and Wallach used German accents for the role while Preminger used his own Austrian accent. While the George Sanders version wore the classic refrigerated suit, the Otto Preminger and Eli Wallach versions wore a "Freeze Collar" around their neck that went with Mr. Freeze's cooling suit. Before Mr. Freeze was on the series, he was always called Mr. Zero. In this version, he continues to be campy like the comic books and is given an alias of "Dr. Art Schivel". In his first appearance "Instant Freeze", it is revealed that it was Batman who spilled the cryogenic chemicals on Schivel during an attempted arrest. Freeze ends up stealing diamonds from the Gotham City Diamond Exchange. When Batman and Robin try to stop him, he freezes them with his freeze gun. In the next episode "Rats Like Cheese", Mr. Freeze kidnaps Paul Diamante of the Gotham City Eagles and offers to return his hostage in exchange for Batman. Batman and Robin save Diamante and apprehend Freeze. During this appearance, Mr. Freeze's hideout has "warm lights" so that his henchmen can interact with him. In the episode "Green Ice", Mr. Freeze escapes from prison and captures Miss Iceland from the finals of the Miss Galaxy Pageant. In the next episode "Deep Freeze", Mr. Freeze has led all of Gotham City to believe that Batman has given in to his bribes. Batman and Robin managed to find Freeze's hideout, rescue Miss Iceland, and defeat Freeze and his goons before he can freeze all of Gotham. Batman arranges for Warden Crichton to have a special refrigerated cell made for Mr. Freeze. In the episode "Ice Spy", Mr. Freeze kidnaps Icelandic scientist Professor Isaacson, with the help of his moll, famous ice skater Glacia Glaze in order to obtain an "Instant Ice" formula. In the episode "The Duo Defy", Mr. Freeze finally obtains the "Instant Ice" formula and ends up building a large freeze ray. He is thwarted by Batman and Robin again, who find his lair in an iceberg and capture him and his cohorts. As he is taken away by the police, Freeze tells the police officers not to touch the Freeze Collar's dials.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Gotham, portrayed by Nathan Darrow.[4][5] In this version, his surname is pronounced "/frs/". As in the comics, he is a scientist who researches cryogenic technology to find a cure for his wife Nora's terminal illness. To this end, he freezes Gotham's citizens with a cryogenic gun and uses them as test subjects. Horrified at what Victor has become, Nora indirectly kills herself during one of the experiments (replacing a perfected coolant with a failed, lethal formula). Devastated, Fries attempts suicide by turning the coolants from his gun on himself. He survives, however, and is rendered unable to survive outside of sub-zero temperatures. Hugo Strange has him declared dead and takes him to Arkham Asylum's Indian Hill Laboratory, where he uses him as an "assistant" in experiments with cryogenically frozen bodies.[6] Strange also dispatches him to kill Karen Jennings, one of his former test subjects.[7] In the season finale, "Transference", Strange orders Fries to kill Selina Kyle, but Bridgit Pike, another of Strange's genetically altered minions, interferes. She and Fries do battle, he with his freeze ray and she with her flamethrower; they accidentally incapacitate Strange when he gets in the crossfire.[8] In the episode "The Primal Riddle", crime bosses Oswald Cobblepot and Ivy Pepper find Fries in an Arctic location. They persuade him to help Cobblepot in his revenge on a fellow criminal Edward Nygma by returning his special suit to him that they took from Wayne Enterprises and promising to cure his condition. In the episode "Destiny Calling", Fries assists mobster Fish Mooney with obtaining an antidote to a virus engineered by Jervis Tetch, and fighting ninja sent by the League of Shadows. After Mooney's death, Fries, Pike, and Strange are arrested by the police, but Cobblepot arranges their release. In the episode "Heavydirtysoul", Cobblepot has Fries use his freeze gun on Nygma in order to turn him into a frozen "centerpiece" for the Iceberg Lounge. In the episode, "The Demon's Head", after Nygma is freed from his icy prison, Cobblepot summons Freeze to put him back on the ice, but when he realizes that he is no longer the Riddler or Ed Nygma anymore, Cobblepot decides to spare him. In the episode, "The Sinking Ship The Grand Applause", Fries is recruited to join Jerome Valeska's "Legion of Horribles", along with Tetch, Scarecrow, Pike, Cobblepot, and Solomon Grundy. In "Mandatory Brunch Meeting", he attends the Legion of Horribles' mandatory brunch meeting, where Jerome assigns him to find a big laboratory. In "That's Entertainment", Fries and Tetch bring back a hostage for Scarecrow to test his new laughing toxin. In the season finale, "No Man's Land", after Jeremiah Valeska blows up all bridges that lead out of the city, Gotham is labeled as a "no man's land", with villains, including Fries, claiming territory across the city. In the fifth season, it's mentioned that Mr. Freeze's gang is at war with Firefly's gang where they each occupy Burnley.
  • Victor Fries is mentioned by Dr. Thomas Snow as one of his scientist contacts in The Flash episode "The Icicle Cometh" of the series' fifth season. The freeze gun later appears in the "Elseworlds" crossover, used by his wife Nora.
  • While not appearing physically, Freeze is referenced in Batwoman. In "Crisis on Infinite Earths", he is revealed to be one of the villains the Bruce Wayne of Earth-99 has killed as his collection of their possessions includes an empty snow globe. He is later referenced by Luke Fox in "Take Your Choice", when while trying to find a solution on how to save Kate's sister Beth's doppleganger from another Earth, Luke Fox suggested cryogenically freezing her until they worked out a cure, remarking that "Bruce knew a guy with a cryogenic tank". He is properly mentioned in "I'll Give You A Clue", where he was given as an option in one of Cluemaster's quiz questions and Sophie Moore confirms his classic tragic backstory.
  • Mr. Freeze is referenced in Titans. In the episode "Dick Grayson", a dark future that Trigon subjected Dick Grayson to where Batman started killing his enemies, Batman is shown to have one of Mr. Freeze's freeze guns which he used on Kory Anders. In the episode "Barbara Gordon", it was revealed by Barbara Gordon that Mr. Freeze was responsible for the death of Commissioner Jim Gordon where he froze Commissioner Gordon in a block of ice and he later died of a heart attack after being thawed.

DC Animated Universe[]

Mr. Freeze's character design in Batman: The Animated Series
  • Mr. Freeze appears in several series for the DC Animated Universe, voiced by Michael Ansara.[9]
    • The character first appears in Batman: The Animated Series with a design created by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola as per request of series creator Bruce Timm.[10] Dr. Victor Fries was a scientist working for GothCorp who embezzled funds to cryogenically freeze his terminally ill wife Nora until a cure could be found for her condition. When GothCorp's corrupt CEO Ferris Boyle interfered because of this, Fries held the unsympathetic Boyle at gunpoint only to be talked down and kicked by him and was accidentally exposed to beakers of cryogenic chemicals, mutating him into a metahuman unable to live outside of sub-zero conditions and forcing him to wear a cryogenic suit to survive. Introduced in the Emmy Award-winning episode "Heart of Ice" (for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program), Mr. Freeze attempts to exact vengeance against Boyle for the accident, leading to his first confrontation with Batman as he steals parts for a freeze cannon he would use in his vendetta. Having discovered the truth about Freeze's tragic past by stealing the accident footage from GothCorp archives, Batman is captured by Freeze and left imprisoned in his lair but he escapes. He attempts to kill Boyle by freezing the building where he is getting the Humanitarian of the Year Award. But Batman arrives and defeats his henchmen, halting the attack. Freeze then personally confronts Boyle, freezing him to the waist until Batman intervenes. While Freeze puts up a good fight thanks to his powerful suit, Batman ultimately defeats him by smashing his protective dome with a flask of chicken soup Alfred gave him for his cold, leaving Freeze on the ground. He then leaves both him and Boyle to be taken into police custody; Batman presents evidence of Boyle's crimes involving Nora to the press, exposing him and Freeze is imprisoned in a special Arkham Asylum cell kept at sub-zero temperatures, where he tearfully apologizes to his wife for failing to kill Boyle while looking at the snowglobe he kept in her memory as Batman watches from outside and leaves.[11] Mr. Freeze later appears in "Deep Freeze". After being kidnapped by a giant robot and brought to the off-shore city of Oceana, he meets billionaire amusement park designer Grant Walker, who seeks to become immortal like Freeze and create a frozen world for selected residents. He gives Freeze his equipment and he agrees to help when Walker promises to cure Nora, who is revealed to be alive and in cryogenic suspension by scientists under Walker who, being a major investor in Gothcorp, brought her safely to use as a bargaining chip. As Batman and Robin arrive, they are captured by Walker's robots and frozen by Victor, who gives Walker what he wanted. But Batman manages to convince Freeze that if he were to help Walker, Nora would resent him. Freeze eventually turns on Walker, freezing him and his worker robots operating the freeze cannon and overloading Oceana's power core to destroy the city, and stays behind with Nora and Walker. The ending reveals that they all survive, trapped in icebergs.[12]
    • Mr. Freeze appears in the direct-to-video animated film Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero. Since his last encounter with Batman, Mr. Freeze has found himself a home in the Arctic and started a surrogate family with his still cryogenically-encased wife Nora, his newly adopted Inuit son Koonak, and a pair of pet polar bears, Notchka and Shaka, who serve as his muscle. After Nora's cryogenic chamber is accidentally shattered by a submarine (whose innocent crew he murders in anger) and her condition begins rapidly deteriorating, Freeze kidnaps Barbara Gordon from a restaurant where she was on a date with Dick Grayson to harvest her organs to cure Nora as Dick fails to stop them. Freeze makes a deal with greedy former colleague Gregory Belson to help cure his wife in exchange for gold to end his financial problems. Freeze and Belson explain the situation to Barbara, who agrees to help Nora with the "blood transfusion", but at a hospital, prompting Freeze to keep Barbara imprisoned. Batman and Robin infiltrate his lair on an abandoned oil rig and after a small fight, Belson accidentally starts a rapidly spreading fire as Freeze traps Batman and Robin. He orders Belson to perform the operation, despite the oil rig now completely ablaze, falling apart and on the verge of exploding, but Belson betrays Freeze and attempts to escape, only to be killed by falling wreckage. Batman and Robin escape just as Freeze's leg is broken. Freeze, having come to his senses, clears a path and the duo saves Barbara, Koonak, and Nora. But Freeze falls in the raging ocean and is presumed dead. But he survives, having grabbed on to his pets as they swim to safety. Wayne Enterprises then finances a surgery that saves Nora's life. Freeze is last seen at the North Pole, crying tears of joy as he learns of Nora's recovery. He then peacefully walks off with his polar bears.
    • Mr. Freeze returns in The New Batman Adventures, sporting a new, sleeker design. He has red eyes instead of goggles. His armor is fully mechanical, bigger than the first one and has a simple black and blue in its color. His gun is now black instead of white and fires a much larger and powerful ray. He is assisted by the Ice Maiden, three parka-wearing henchwomen who also use freeze guns. [13] As his mutation slowly degrades his body, Victor Fries kidnapped three scientists ( two of them voiced by Jeff Bennett and Lauren Tom) to try and stop the process, only succeeding in saving his head which is supported by four robotic legs built separately from his suit. When a cured Nora Fries married her own doctor and left Gotham permanently, the trauma destroys whatever is left of Fries' humanity. Mister Freeze vows to inflict on others the loss he has suffered in the episode "Cold Comfort" by taking away the things they value most, much to the confusion of Robin and Batgirl. He first freezes and destroys the Ultrasaurus, a rare dinosaur skeleton which is the culmination of thirty years of hard work by scientist Margaret Madsen, leaving her in tears. Then he does the same with Twilight in Gotham, a massive painting by Guiseppe Bianci, who is also left devastated. At some point, his victims also included a man whose whole family was killed by him, which would haunt him in his later years. His third target is Bruce Wayne himself as he tries to kill his surrogate family but that fails, thanks to a timely assist from Batgirl, though Alfred is frozen up to the waist by Freeze who escapes. When Freeze is confronted at his hideout at an old meatpacking plant by Batman and Batgirl, he reveals his condition to them as well as his goal of destroying Gotham City — all the Dark Knight holds dear — by dropping a 'reverse fusion bomb' that will freeze the city. Freeze boards a helicopter to drop the bomb. However, he is followed by Batman and they engage in a duel in which Batman uses a grappling gun to hook Freeze to the bomb and drop it into the river, where an explosion creates a huge iceberg. Although Freeze is presumed dead, his head is seen to be missing as the episode ends.[14][15]
    • In Batman Beyond, several of Mr. Freeze's freeze guns have been procured by the elderly Bruce Wayne and are displayed in the Batcave. The new Batman (Terry McGinnis) uses one to freeze Inque in the episode "Black Out", however, Inque destroys this one in the episode "Disappearing Inque". Another one is seen in the Batcave's background during subsequent episodes. Freeze himself personally appears in the episode "Meltdown". His disembodied head is revealed to have survived for decades thanks to cryogenic technology. Wayne-Powers' CEO Derek Powers and Dr. Stephanie Lake (voiced by Linda Hamilton) use him as a test subject for a process that could cure Powers' own mutation. Transferring his mind into a clone built from his own baseline DNA, Victor Fries sees this as a second chance and seemingly begins a relationship with Lake. Fries initially tries to right some of the wrongs he has committed by creating a charitable organization named after his former wife with all his legitimate earnings from before he was imprisoned, after a man who tries to kill him to avenge his family's death by Freeze's hands, which impresses Terry, although Bruce does not trust his intent because of his prior history with the former villain. However, Victor's new body soon begins to revert to his original body's same sub-zero biology. Fries returns to Dr. Lake and she informs Powers of the incident. She guesses that there is a mnemonic agent within his DNA that caused him to revert. Wishing to biopsy Fries' organs, Dr. Lake seals him inside a cell without a warning and turns up the heat, but he escapes, now convinced that Dr. Lake and Powers have betrayed and tried to murder him. He escapes the facility, hell-bent on revenge once more. After recovering an advanced suit of sub-zero armor that fires ice blasts directly out of gauntlets equipped onto his hands, Mister Freeze assaults the Wayne-Powers building covering it in ice, he then kills Lake, freezes Powers (who turns into Blight) and then, attempts to blow up the complex to commit suicide. In the middle of his plan, Freeze battles Batman and then fights with Blight, who damages his suit and then, goes to fight Batman. Freeze redeems himself by saving the new Dark Knight from Blight, shooting him out of the building. Batman attempts to rescue Freeze from the collapsing building, however, Freeze refuses help, acknowledging Batman as the only person who genuinely cared for him in the end, blocking his way with a wall of ice, forcing him to exit the complex before it explodes, taking Freeze with it. In the end, Bruce realizes that both he and Terry were wrong about Freeze's character.[16][17]

Other series[]

  • Mr. Freeze appeared in The Batman/Superman Hour, voiced by Ted Knight. He appears in "The Cool, Cruel Mr. Freeze", "Freeze's Frozen Vikings", "He Who Swipes the Ice, Goes to the Cooler", "Cool, Cruel Christmas Caper" and "The Fiendishly Frigid Fraud". He and his goons cause havoc in his quest to ransom $1 billion from the city and uses a captured whale for his caper. Then, he uses a Viking hoax to commit robberies. After that, he steals a diamond from a Maharaja, disguises himself as Santa Claus, and uses a freak bombardment of meteors made of pure ice to stage a mammoth hoax. He also tries to join the new villain Simon the Pieman like the other villains but Simon betrays all of them. All of his plans are foiled by the Dynamic Duo and he is sent to the cooler.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in The New Adventures of Batman episode "The Deep Freeze", voiced by Lennie Weinrib. Unlike his appearance in the show's opening credits, Mr. Freeze is shown without the helmet that goes with his freeze suit. He and his henchman Professor Frost plot to steal the N-1000 (a superfast submarine) to pull off the "Crime of the Century". When Batman and Robin raid his hideout, Mr. Freeze manages to freeze both of them and takes Robin with him as he escapes. When Freeze and Professor Frost steal the N-1000, they steer it to the North Pole. When Batman, Robin, and Bat-Mite face Mr. Freeze and Professor Frost at the North Pole, Batman and Robin fire a beam that reverses the polarity of Freeze's freeze gun so that it warms up. They then apprehend Freeze and Professor Frost where they are both placed into prison.
Mr. Freeze as he appears in The Batman.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in The Batman, voiced by Clancy Brown. Debuting in the episode "The Big Chill", this version of Victor Fries is a diamond thief who was accidentally electrocuted in a cryogenic laboratory chamber, transforming him into a cryokinetic metahuman capable of blasting ice with his bare hands and generating extreme cold around him; he forced a scientist to create a cryogenic suit to contain his condition. Photos of Fries' wife Nora are briefly seen in his car, but whether she is deceased or terminally ill in this continuity is unknown. He goes on a crime spree and manages to beat Batman. In the end, he seals himself in a giant ice fortress but Batman, wearing an arctic version of his suit finally defeats him. He is then sent to Arkham.[18] In "Fire and Ice", Mr. Freeze joins forces with Firefly to attack the GCPD Christmas Gala. But Batman's intervention and the quarrel between the two villains result in their undoing.[19] In "The Icy Depths", Mr. Freeze comes into conflict with the Penguin over an umbrella that hides a map to an ancient sunken treasure. Both of them fail to get the treasure and are apprehended.[20] In "Artifacts", it is revealed that while the immortal Mr. Freeze's powers have increased significantly in the future, he is forced to use a special exosuit due to having his lower body replaced with mechanical spider legs. He freezes himself and wakes up in a future where Batman has died but the members of the GCPD stop him. [21] In "Rumors", Mr. Freeze is among the villains captured by the eponymous vigilante. When freed and while fighting the duo, he accidentally froze many of the villains before being defeated. In "The Joining (Part 2)", Mr. Freeze, the Joker, Bane, and the Penguin are seen fighting the titular extraterrestrial invaders at Arkham Asylum. In "The Batman/Superman Story (Part 1)", Mr. Freeze, Black Mask, Clayface, and Bane is hired by Lex Luthor to kidnap Lois Lane as bait to lure Superman. As Black Mask's henchmen distract Superman, Freeze appears and encases him in ice. But the Man of Steel escapes easily. Freeze is then defeated when Batman throws a Batarang at Black Mask, causing him to accidentally shoot Freeze with a red sun energy-powered weapon meant for Superman, knocking him out. He is presumably returned to Arkham like the other Bat-Rouges.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by John DiMaggio. The Mr. Zero version is featured in the episodes "Legends of the Dark Mite!", "Sidekicks Assemble!", while the Mr. Freeze version is seen in "Chill of the Night!", "Bold Beginnings!", and "Crisis: 22,300 Miles Above Earth!". Victor Fries was a criminal scientist based in Gotham City. During a battle against Batman, Fries was exposed to an experimental cryogenic chemical. It froze his molecular structure and forced him to wear a special suit to regulate his required body temperature of 50 degrees below zero. As Mr. Freeze, he began to steal diamonds to fund his campaign to exact revenge. Mr. Zero became part of Bat-Mite's imagined day as Batman. Batman stepped in and defeated Zero by shattering his glass helmet with a Batarang. The real Zero was residing in Arkham Asylum. Zero later updated his costume and changed his name to Mr. Freeze. At an arms sale conducted by Joe Chill, Mr. Freeze was present. After it was revealed Chill was responsible for creating Batman, the villains turned on him. Freeze was one that joined in on beating him. He and the others fled the site when the roof began to give way. Sometime later, Mr. Freeze positioned several glaciers near Gotham City and planned to wipe it off the map. He managed to capture Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Plastic Man. Batman found his hideout and freed the other superheroes. Together, they defeated Freeze and his 40 henchmen. While Batman, Green Arrow, and Plastic Man set off the melt the glaciers, Aquaman stays to tell the tale of his first Batman team up to the helpless Mr. Freeze. Mr. Freeze was later present at the Joker's 'Superhero Celebrity Roast' where the Joker was roasting Batman alive. Freeze attempts making puns to mock Batman without success. Freeze and the others were distracted by Jeffrey Ross, giving Batman time to escape. Batman then took down Mr. Freeze and the others.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Young Justice, voiced by Keith Szarabajka. In the pilot episode "Independence Day (Part 1)", he terrorizes a park in Gotham City, freezing many people including a family in blocks of ice, until he is defeated by Batman and Robin. In "Terrors", Mr. Freeze joins forces with fellow ice-based villains Icicle Sr., Icicle Jr., Captain Cold, and Killer Frost in an attempt to break out of Belle Reve Penitentiary, thanks to cryo weapons supplied by The Light. However, Superboy and Miss Martian, having gone to the prison undercover, disguised as the Terror Twins stop his plans. Superboy manipulates Icicle Jr into helping him and defeats Freezes by breaking his dome, forcing him to freeze himself to survive. In "Coldhearted", after five mysterious ice fortresses covered the United States with a blanket of snow, Batman and Flash suspected Mr. Freeze and the other ice-villains were involved. Hugo Strange told them they had been, and still were, in their cells. However, Mister Freeze was in fact responsible for powering one of the fortresses. He is briefly seen in his cell at Belle Reve.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Justice League Action, voiced by Peter Stormare.[22] His design is similar to the one from The New Batman Adventures. In the episode "Freezer Burn", he uses Killer Frost to power the freeze ray on his airship which he uses to freeze Gotham. Batman and Firestrom infiltrate the airship to stop him. As Batman battles him, Firestorm defeats his drones and disables the ship. He is then flash-frozen by Killer Frost and taken to prison. In a short, he goes on a crime spree, stealing jewelry as Batman confronts him. But his efforts are in vain because of Plastic Man's meddling until they both work together and stop Freeze.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Harley Quinn, voiced by Alfred Molina. This version resembles his New 52 counterpart and speaks with a Spanish accent. Debuting in the season two premiere, "New Gotham", he has joined forces with fellow villains and former Legion of Doom members the Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, and Bane to form the Injustice League and take advantage of the chaos the Joker caused when he destroyed Gotham City. The villains have divided the city's ruins between them, but refuse to give Harley Quinn an equal share, leading her to attempt to dismantle the League. He freezes her in a block of ice when she resists, letting Penguin keep her to use as an attraction in his lounge until she is freed two months later by her crew. This is later revealed to be Freeze's way of sparing her life as the other villains wanted to kill her. In the episode "Thawing Hearts", Freeze becomes the third member of the League targeted by Harley's crew, after the Penguin and Riddler, but he captures them after they storm his lair using Firefly's flamethrower and defeat his ice skating henchmen. He then tries to use Harley to find a cure for his wife Nora, and allows her to call Poison Ivy for help. While they wait, Freeze treats Harley and her crew to dinner while he tells them how he and Nora met. Due to her mistreatment at Joker's hands, however, Harley refuses to believe him and unfreezes Nora to save her, only to learn she actually is dying. Incensed, Freeze threatens to blow up his lair and take everyone with it unless Ivy finds a cure. While Ivy does so, she learns that due to Nora's rare blood type, someone else has to take the cure then give Nora a blood transfusion, which will, in turn, kill that person. Freeze opts to sacrifice himself for his wife and dies saving her in an act of true love.
  • Mr Freeze appears in Teen Titans Go!. Based on the version from The New Batman Adventures, Freeze mostly makes cameo appearances. His more physical appearances are in the episodes "Sidekick", where his head (like in the TNBA series) is shown placed on a shelf, "The Titans Show" where he is among the greatest and well known DC supervillains summoned by Control Freak and later a version of him appears in "Where Exactly on the Globe is Carl Sandpedro? Part 4" where after finding the episode's titular villain, they confront his partner Freeze who parodies the Night King (an antagonist of the hit TV series Game of Thrones, which the episode parodies) and is served by an ice dragon and army of ice zombies. Robin asks if that is Freeze but Beast Boy claims that he is a zombie king. Robin engages Freeze in a sword fight and loses but is saved by a Big Croatian Bird, who attacks and defeats Freeze, causing him and his minions to explode into ice shards, leaving it unclear whether if he was the actual Freeze or not.

Live-action[]

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze in the 1997 film Batman & Robin
  • Mr. Freeze appears in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger (who received top billing ahead of George Clooney, who portrayed Batman). In the film, Dr. Victor Fries was in an accident in a cryogenics lab he was using to find a cure for his wife Nora Fries suffering from the (fictional) terminal illness MacGregor's Syndrome and is now dependent on a diamond-powered sub-zero suit to keep cold or he would die. He first appears in the very beginning, stealing a diamond from the museum as the duo first confront him. After a long fight with his ice hockey henchmen and a longer chase from a rocket to a furnace, Mr. Freeze manages to escape by freezing Robin. He later appears in his hideout at the Snowy Cones Ice Cream factory, where he is keeping the cryogenically frozen Nora safe. He later crashes a charity event held by Wayne Enterprises and steals a diamond from the event but is finally captured by Batman and detained at Arkham Asylum. But soon flees with the help of Poison Ivy and Bane. Ivy cuts off Nora's life support and deceives Mr. Freeze into thinking that Batman was responsible for the deed as part of a plan to use him to freeze up Gotham City. With the use of a gigantic ray gun stationed in an observatory, he freezes over the entirety of Gotham. In a subsequent fight with Batman, Mr. Freeze destroys the observatory with a set of bombs (planted by Bane) in an unsuccessful attempt to take Batman with him. Batman shows Mr. Freeze a recording of Ivy during her fight with Batgirl in which she brags about killing Nora, revealing her real colours to him. Batman tells Mr. Freeze that his wife is not dead; she was restored and moved to Arkham, where he can complete his research. Batman asks him for the cure he created for the first stage of MacGregor's Syndrome for Alfred Pennyworth; Mr. Freeze atones for his past actions by giving Batman the medicine he had developed. Freeze is then detained at Arkham where he exacts his revenge on Ivy for her deception and treachery claiming that winter is coming early this year. The character's penchant for cold- and ice-related puns was noted by critics.[23][24] James Berardinelli of ReelViews commented that "Schwarzenegger, aside from looking like a cross between the Michelin Man and RoboCop, appears totally confused about what he's doing. Sometimes he's in Terminator mode; on other occasions, he's chomping on a cigar like he's back in Last Action Hero" despite the character's aversion to heat. He also noted that Freeze's backstory and motivation were "too complex for Schwarzenegger to convey effectively or for [director Joel] Schumacher to care about exploring. As a result, Mr. Freeze ends up being a frustratingly incomplete brute who's out to smother Gotham City under a blanket of ice."[25] Robin Dougherty of Salon lamented that "Schwarzenegger's exuberance is pinned down. He's like a moth squashed by an 18-wheeler. He's also paralyzed by amazingly inert dialogue. How many lame jokes about cold can you fit into two hours? Buy a ticket and find out."[26] Patrick Stewart was considered for the role,[27] before the script was rewritten to accommodate Schwarzenegger's casting.[28] Schumacher decided that Mr. Freeze must be "big and strong like he was chiseled out of a glacier".[29] Schwarzenegger was paid a $25 million salary for the role.[30][31] His prosthetic makeup and wardrobe took six hours to apply each day.[32] The Mr. Freeze armor suit was made by armorer Terry English.[33]
  • The Batman & Robin version of Mr. Freeze appears in Space Jam: A New Legacy. He is among the Warner Bros. characters that watch the basketball game between the Tune Squad and the Goon Squad.

Animation[]

  • Mr. Freeze appears in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. He is seen with the "Cold Warriors" Icicle Jr. (Cameron Mahkent), Killer Frost (Louise Lincoln), and Captain Cold when they are among the villains trying to claim the bounty on Superman and Batman. He, like Icicle, has no speaking role and appears to be wearing a purple hood as no facial features are visible and red googles. After a brief fight with Batman, he and his allies are all defeated by Superman's heat vision.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in the direct-to-video original animation DC Super Friends: The Joker's Playhouse (2010), voiced by Eric Bauza. He and Gorilla Grodd are Joker's cohorts in taking over the Hall of Justice. After a short battle with Green Lantern, he traps him in a big yellow ball (the color yellow being his weakness), leaving him to die when the ball is also revealed to be a bomb. However, before that can happen, Freeze is defeated by Cyborg who uses his sonic cannon to damage his cryo gauntlets, encasing him in ice, and Lantern is saved. Freeze and Grodd are sent back to Arkham by Hawkman.
  • At the end of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Mr. Freeze's freeze gun can be seen in the Batcave.
  • In Batman: Assault on Arkham, Mr. Freeze's freeze gun is found and used by Killer Frost (Louise Lincoln) against Batman in the Arkham Asylum warehouse.
  • An alternate universe version of Victor Fries appears in Justice League: Gods and Monsters, voiced by Jim Meskimen. He was a Nobel Prize-winning thermal expert who was part of Lex Luthor's "Project Fair Play", a weapons program contingency that would be used to destroy the Justice League if necessary. Fries was measuring atmospheric carbon levels near the Arctic Circle before being confronted by a Metal Man designed by Will Magnus. He tries to escape on his snowmobile and then tries to gun the robot down but all in vain as the robot finally grabs him and kills him by sucking his blood. His body, dried up of blood, is later found and Batman is framed for the crime as part of Magnus's plan.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman Unlimited: Mechs vs. Mutants, voiced by Oded Fehr. His origin is above the same, except this version has banished himself to the Arctic because he believes that "he's not fit for humanity," until he is employed by Penguin to mutate Killer Croc and Chemo into giant monsters and freeze Gotham for revenge. With their plan almost complete, Penguin betrayed him by secretly giving Bane and Clayface the same formula without Freeze's knowledge. Now filled with guilt, Freeze decided to help Batman and his team stop Penguin, primarily by constructing a freeze ray that could neutralize Clayface. He nearly died in the process, having been exposed to heat while outside his subzero suit. However, Robin was able to return him to the suit, and he willingly gave himself up to the police, hoping that he could be granted solitary confinement. In a short, he appears on a rampage in a giant robot suit. Batman manages to destroy the suit and Freeze ejects. Freeze then attacks Batman, only for Batman to shatter his helmet. Batman puts a gas mask on him and handcuffs him, comforting Mr. Freeze until the cops arrive. In another short, he has again frozen Gotham, this time standing on a giant ice statue of himself. Batman and Nightwing arrive in Batmobile and take him down using rockets to destroy the statue's head. He is again cuffed as the Dynamic Duo waits for the police to arrive.
  • Mr. Freeze made a cameo appearance in the 2016 animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (which is a continuation of the 1966 Batman TV series). This version resembles an orange-haired version of Eli Wallach's depiction of Mr. Freeze. He along with other supervillains team up with Robin and Catwoman in order to stop a group of clone rogue Batmen. He freezes one Batman but another defeats him using a heat shield in his cape and is sent to prison.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in The Lego Batman Movie, voiced by David Burrows. This version of Mr. Freeze resembles the one from Batman: The Animated Series and uses a robotic mech equipped with a freeze gun. He is among the Batman villains that assist Joker in his attack on Gotham City. At the time when Joker was planning to set off a bomb, Mr. Freeze was present during this plot where he fights Batman and retreats. Later on, during the ceremony where Barbara Gordon is being sworn in as the new police commissioner, Joker assigns Mr. Freeze and Clayface to capture her. Though Barbara Gordon does a trick that causes Mr. Freeze to accidentally freeze Clayface. During the fight against the Phantom Zone inmates, Mr. Freeze and Clayface defeat the Kraken from Clash of the Titans. He later escapes with the other rouges to continue their evil deeds.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He appears as one of the many villains locked in Arkham Asylum who pursue the heroes. Mr. Freeze is later one of the villains whose form Clayface takes.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, voiced by John DiMaggio reprising his role from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Freeze is mutated into an anthropomorphic polar bear when Joker spreads mutagen to all of the Arkham Asylum inmates. He fights and with Damian Wayne, Raphael and Michelangelo in the kitchen before they retreat. He then freezes Batman in place, allowing Joker to mutate him into an unhinged bat creature, which then slams Victor through the floor and proceeds to maul him. It is unknown whether he survived or not.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman vs. Two-Face, the sequel to Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, again unvoiced and having the same appearance. He is one of the villains who are used as test subjects for the Evil Extractor and among those who Two-Face invites to bid for Batman's secret identity. However, the duo escape with the help of Catwoman, who defeats Freeze.
  • Mr. Freeze makes a cameo appearance in the montage of Batman and Catwoman teaming up to fight crime in the 2019 animated film Batman: Hush. He is seen firing his freeze ray at the heroic couple and resembles his counterpart from the Young Justice series.

Video games[]

Mr. Freeze also appears in several Batman video games.

Lego DC series[]

  • Mr. Freeze appears Lego Batman: The Video Game, with his vocal effects provided by Ogie Banks. He appears as an enemy of Batman, a follower of the Riddler[34] and the second boss of Chapter 1, "The Riddler's Revenge". In it, his design is based mainly on the animated series and he uses his freeze gun to freeze enemies and water. The strength granted to him by his suit allows him to pick up objects others cannot. His suit also protects him from toxins. The Riddler assigns him to get a freeze cannon in his old lair at an abandoned ice cream factory. It is shown in the story that, while he aids the Riddler in his pursuit for Gotham City's gold reserves, he is shown to be formulating plans of his own, which involve raising an army of Freeze Maids, which he uses in his boss fight as he stays behind. Batman and Robin infiltrate his lair, defeat his female goons and confront him. The player has to be quick and attack him right after he shuts down his freeze gun. After he is defeated, he attempts to run away, but Batman throws a Batarang at him, causing his pack to backfire and make him bounce across the room and then land on the floor in front of Batman and Robin. In the ending cutscene, he is seen in Arkham Asylum playing with dolls of him and a Freeze Maid.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, voiced by Townsend Coleman. He appears as a cameo in the fourth level "Asylum Assignment", where he is seen in a cell constantly tapping on the glass. In Free-play mode, the player can actually kill him by sending one of the Penguin's bombs inside to attack him. Outside of the story, he appears as a boss fight and an unlockable character found at the observatory. His intro catchphrase is, "Is it just me, or is it really cold in here?" He shoots an ice ball and summons his parka wearing goons to fight. After three hits, he is defeated and is available to purchase for 500,000 studs.
  • Mr. Freeze appears as a playable character in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, voiced by Liam O'Brien impersonating the Arnold Schwarzenegger version from Batman & Robin. He first appears as a boss in the story, on which the player helps Plastic Man defeat him in the Watchtower so that they can proceed to defeat Brainiac. The player as Batman in his Sensor-suit must attack Mr. Freeze while the character is in stealth mode. Mr. Freeze is later found in Qward in a side-quest where he requests the player to find another fuel cell for his freezer after the other was damaged by Killer Moth. The Batman Beyond version of Mr. Freeze is also playable via DLC, who also has the ability to detach his head from his body and walk on four mechanical spider legs, a reference to The New Batman Adventures .
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Lego DC Super-Villains, voiced by Eric Bauza.[35][36] He is based on his New 52 counterpart. He appears in the outskirts near Arkham Asylum, where he enlists the player's help to revive the Talons, after which he is unlocked as a playable character.

Batman: Arkham[]

  • Mr. Freeze appears in the Batman Arkham series where he is voiced by Maurice LaMarche.
    • In Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mr. Freeze's frost and an icicle-covered cell can be seen in the Penitentiary area which can be scanned to unlock his bio. According to the game's writer Paul Dini, Freeze was originally planned to be featured in the game, but his inclusion was dropped as he did not fit as part of the game.[37]
    • In Batman: Arkham City, he appears as both an ally to Batman and a boss battle. After the Joker poisons Batman, the Dark Knight has to find Mr. Freeze. Batman searches for him in the GCPD building (literally the coldest place in Arkham City), only to find his lab swarmed by the Penguin's men, who reveal that Penguin is holding Mr. Freeze hostage in the Cyrus Pinkney National History Institute. It is revealed that Penguin stole Mr. Freeze's gun and is holding GCPD officers hostage. Batman saves the hostages and Mr. Freeze from Penguin's men in the museum and asks Mr. Freeze for the cure to his ailment, only for Mr. Freeze to reveal he needs his suit, which Penguin possesses. He tells Batman that his suit has a disruptor that can be used to turn off his freeze gun so that he can defeat Penguin. After Penguin is apprehended and Mr. Freeze recovers his suit, he gets revenge by locking Penguin in a display case. Mr. Freeze then tells Batman that the cure he made for Joker degenerates too quickly and needs a restorative enzyme that has been bonded to human DNA, something that would take decades, only for Batman to reveal he knows someone who has been exposed to that enzyme for centuries. Mr. Freeze tells Batman he only needs a sample of this person's DNA to complete the cure and Batman proceeds to track down one of the warriors of the League of Assassins Penguin had captured. When Batman returns to the GCPD with the blood sample, Mr. Freeze creates two vials of the cure before locking one in a safe and destroying the other, demanding Batman save Nora Fries from Joker. Batman fights Mr. Freeze to unlock the safe, which proves difficult as Mr. Freeze is much too powerful to be confronted directly. Batman is forced to hide and find ways to stun Mr. Freeze, such as using grates in the floor to surprise him as he passes by. Each time Mr. Freeze is incapacitated, he counteracts his weaknesses. After he is beaten, Batman opens the safe only to find that the wall behind the safe was broken into and in the place of the cure there is only a note saying: "Get well soon!" and some joker cards. Batman realizes that Harley Quinn had stolen the cure while the Dark Knight was distracted fighting Mr. Freeze. Mr. Freeze gives Batman freeze grenades to help him retrieve the cure and begs him to find Nora, which becomes a side mission in the game. After Nora is saved, Batman finds Mr. Freeze with his wife and tells him to end his life of crime for Nora's sake. Mr. Freeze's boss battle was widely praised as a step up from the repetitive titan thug bosses from the previous game.
    • In Batman: Arkham Origins, his origin and first encounter with Batman is featured in the DLC story "Cold, Cold Heart" which is based on the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Heart of Ice". Mr. Freeze also has a new design for the downloadable content (DLC), featuring cleated boots and a larger freeze gun built into the right arm of his suit. In the DLC, Mr. Freeze is in collaboration with the Penguin's gang in order to crash a party at Wayne Manor in order to capture Ferris Boyle. When Batman arrives at GothCorp, he finds Penguin trying to force Mr. Freeze to give him what Freeze is after (thinking it to be weapons) until Mr. Freeze uses his freeze gun to create a chain reaction that traps Penguin in a wall of ice. Upon getting the X-E suit to withstand the cold and acquiring a cryogenic drill to penetrate the ice wall, Batman finds residual evidence that Boyle was behind the accident that turned Victor Fries into Mr. Freeze and that Boyle is in possession of Mr. Freeze's cryogenically frozen wife. Batman later confronts and defeats Mr. Freeze. Boyle then takes a piece of machinery and attacks Mr. Freeze, only for Batman to knock out Boyle. During the DLC's credits, a news voiceover states that Mr. Freeze, Penguin, and Boyle have been all arrested by the police.
    • Mr. Freeze is featured in Batman: Arkham Knight. Mr. Freeze's freeze gun can be found in the evidence room at the Gotham City Police Department. According to Aaron Cash, Mr. Freeze has not been seen or heard since Arkham City and implies that he possibly gave up his criminal life to continue his work on finding a cure for Nora Fries. There was also a mentioning that the freeze gun was used by some members of the Gotham City Police Department to make ice cream until it was confiscated from them by James Gordon. Mr. Freeze appears in the December "Season of Infamy" downloadable content (DLC) pack in the side mission "In From The Cold". Batman discovers a frozen vessel just off the coast of Gotham and investigates, finding Mr. Freeze at his wife's old cryogenic chamber. He says that the Arkham Knight's Militia took Nora after he refused to help Scarecrow and Arkham Knight with their plans to take down Batman. Freeze entrusts Batman to rescue his wife from the soldiers. After fighting through a barrage of Militia henchmen, Batman finds Nora and breaks her out of her damaged cryo-chamber. Much to both Batman and Freeze's surprise, she no longer wants to be frozen in ice and simply wants to spend time with Victor. It is also revealed that she could hear every word he said, despite being in suspended animation. After taking down a Militia force trying to destroy Fries' vessel, Nora and Victor meet face-to-face and Victor removes his protective helmet. As they look off at Gotham, Nora asks how long they will live, to which Victor replies "merely days". They then depart Gotham City; when Batman analyses Freeze's equipment in the GCPD lockup, a recording made by Cash ponders whether this turn of events is a happy or sad outcome for the Frieses.
    • Mr. Freeze appears as a playable character in the mobile game Batman: Arkham Underworld. He is unlocked after the player completes a mission for him, after which he becomes playable, wielding his freeze gun with different firing modes.

Other games[]

  • Mr. Freeze is a boss in Batman: The Animated Series, The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Sega Genesis in which Mr. Freeze was the game's final boss. In all of the games, he tries to freeze the city with an ice cannon. The heroes have to race through frozen grounds, vanquish his freeze gun toting goons and finally defeat him.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in the video game adaptation of the movie Batman & Robin. He is fought multiple times as he and his various goons wreck havoc as portrayed in the film. He is also the final boss of the game.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman: Chaos in Gotham. He is the game's first boss, appearing in the Iceberg Lounge. He is defeated by Batman but manages to escape.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman Vengeance, with Michael Ansara reprised his role.[38] He was seen targeting a scientist named Isaac Evers, whom he blames for sending him a video promoting Promethium gas in order to spite him, unaware that the real culprit was the Joker planning to use Mr. Freeze's invasion of the lab as a distraction to steal large quantities of the gas. Freeze kidnaps Evers but Batman saves him and returns to stop Freeze from causing further destruction. After disabling his freeze bombs and defeating all of his minions, Batman confronts and defeats Freeze, incasing him in ice and saving him after his protective dome is broken. He is seen in his cell in Arkham, signaling Batman to leave. He makes a cameo appearance in the sequel game, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu, frozen in his cell, like the other three villains of the game by Sin Tzu.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Batman: Dark Tomorrow.[39][40][41] He appears in the Arkham Asylum stage and has taken many of the staff members hostage, including Dr Jeremiah Arkham, freezing them together in a giant block of ice. Batman reaches his cell after defeating some inmates and dodging various pipes leaking lethal cryogenic steam in the hallways nearby and defeats him, freeing the hostages. He then leaves Victor, frozen and awaiting his next confrontation with the Dark Knight.
  • Mr. Freeze is one of the two main villains in the PC game Toxic Chill. Mr. Freeze pairs up with the Riddler in an attempt to change the very weather of Gotham. He creates chaos by freezing buildings that are thawed by Batman. He is eventually betrayed and nearly killed by the Riddler who sets off a volcanic eruption. Both are sent to Arkham Asylum and are made cellmates. It is suggested that Mr. Freeze tortures the Riddler in Arkham as revenge for his treachery.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in DC Universe Online, voiced by Robert Kraft.[citation needed] Freeze appears when the player, using a Villain character, is attempting to steal some diamonds from a Wayne Enterprises warehouse. Joker orders the player via communicator to give the diamonds to Freeze, only to later command him or her to go inside Freeze's base in Gotham Mercy Hospital and steal the diamonds back, right when Freeze is once again trying to bring back Nora and thus sabotaging the procedure. The villain player must then confront Mr. Freeze, who is enraged and willing to kill the player. Freeze also appears in the Arkham Asylum alert, where he has allied with Scarecrow and Poison Ivy to spread chaos in the Asylum, under doctor Jeremiah Arkham's orders. Freeze has taken over one of the wings in the asylum, covering the whole area with ice and snow. The team of four players (Heroes or Villains) must defeat Freeze one time in his area, and then face him again when he is fighting side by side with Scarecrow and Ivy. He is the first Sub boss in the Metal Pt. I: Monsters Of Metal operation and a random boss in Amazon Fury Part 1 Gotham Under Siege. He is served by Icers, Kelvinizers, Repair Engineers, Thermanators, Chillers, Deep Freezers, Ice Picks, Crazed Coolers, Ice Breakers, Ice Makers, Ice Giants, Ice Behemoths and Ice Shardlings. He also has a metahuman right-hand man named Coldcut.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in the 2013 arcade game Batman. He escapes from Arkham Asylum, planning to get revenge on Gotham by freezing it. His missions (both easy and hard combined) involve taking down his henchmen in vehicles, destroying his anti-aircraft guns and ice mechs, restoring Gotham's power grid, and finally facing him in his giant robot mech. Freeze is ultimately defeated and returned to Arkham.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Injustice 2, voiced by Jim Pirri. He appears as a "Premier Skin" for Captain Cold. In his initial appearance, Mr. Freeze did not wear the protective helmet, which was later added in an update. He resembles the New 52 version and speaks in a German accent in this appearance. Most of his dialogue is asking his opponents to help save his wife and threatening them after they refuse, intending to use them as test subjects. Being a skin, he has the same moves as Cold and no character ending after defeating Brainiac.
  • Mr. Freeze appears in Telltale Games' Batman: The Enemy Within, voiced by Matthew Mercer. Unlike most iterations of the character, his condition does not confine him entirely to the suit, which is very comfortable and mobile like the New 52 one and lacks the glass dome. As for his weapons, instead of the freeze gun, he uses a specialized glove that freezes anything it touches. Other weapons are Freeze grenades and a shock rod. He also makes use of cryogenic chambers. He has a personal frozen and unexplorable room in the Pact's hideout where he keeps his wife and has two goons guard it when he's away. Mr. Freeze is a member of the Pact, alongside "John Doe", Riddler, Bane, and Harley Quinn. His origin story mostly remains the same, just excluding Ferris Boyle. He joins the group to retrieve the LOTUS virus, hoping to use it to cure Nora. He first appears in the second episode, where he (offscreen) infiltrated the Gothcorp labs, killing at least twenty personal with his cryo-gauntlet and caused the loss of limb of an unknown number. He also caused serious damage to the labs by freezing objects, leaving very little evidence to trace him and his men. Freeze, along with his gang, managed to get away with a number of biological materials, leaving no witnesses to identify him to the police. He appears physically in the Pact's lair where whilst checking on Nora, "John Doe" 'accidentally' set off an EMP generator shutting down the equipment keeping her alive. Horrified by losing her, Freeze entered the room and forced Bruce Wayne to turn it off. After the billionaire did so, he returned to check on Nora and ensure her unit had not been badly damaged by the blast. He later sits in the lair and Bruce, though the correct dialogue choice, can win his favor of getting him in the Pact. Regardless, Bruce gets in and during the Pact's assault on the Agency's convoy, Freeze kills many agents with his glove. They ultimately get what he wanted, which was a cryo-chamber containing the Riddler's corpse. He mostly has minor roles in the game, though in the third episode, he manages to horrify Bruce by revealing that he used many of the Pact's goons as test subjects for his ice bombs, showing his cruelty and lack of respect for human life. In the fourth episode, depending on the choice at the end of the previous one, Bruce will either aid the Pact in their assault on SANCTUS as himself or stop them as Batman. Freeze, alongside Bane, engages in a long fight with Batman, using his glove and shock rod. But he is ultimately defeated by Batman and betrayed by Quinn, who leaves with the last vial of the Lotus virus and he is left in a containment cell, infected with the virus. In return for information about her whereabouts, Freeze asks Bruce Wayne/Batman to lower his confinement's temperature, hoping to combat his infection like Riddler did. If the player does, Freeze thanks Batman/Bruce as he freezes inside the room. If the player doesn't, he curses the hero and falls down devastated. Regardless of the decision, his ultimate fate is left ambiguous.
  • Mr. Freeze will appear in Gotham Knights. He has returned to Gotham with a mysterious agenda which includes manipulating Gotham's weather pattern. He achieves this via the "Storm Engine", a weather machine of his that shoots a giant ice ray in the sky, freezing the city and also bringing down cryogenic lighting. Batgirl and Robin infiltrate the Elliot Centre from where he is freezing the city. After defeating his minions, they battle him on the roof.[42]

Web series[]

  • Mr. Freeze is mentioned several times in the third season of the Flash series Gotham Girls. The season also features the original character Dora Smithy (voiced by Jennifer Hale), who appeared to be a simple secretary, working for Commissioner Gordon. But she was also Mr. Freeze's sister-in-law, who blames him for her sister Nora's death and dons his freezing equipment in a quest for revenge and to put an end to costumed villains that ran about Gotham City on a daily basis. Throughout the series, she is secretly behind many crimes such as making all men in Gotham City vanish, using Freeze's Polarity Ray, and kidnapping Gordon, replacing him with a robot duplicate, another Freeze tech. In the end, after being defeated by Batgirl in Freeze's old hideout at Gotham Ice Cream Industries where she kept Gordon, she falls in a vat of cryo chemicals and becomes just like Freeze, both mentally and physically. Gordon has Dora locked up in Arkham, under "cold storage".
  • DC Super Hero Girls features Mr. Freeze in the short "#TheLateBatsby", voiced by John de Lancie. Freeze appears to be incasing an entire building in ice. He is also one of Batgirl's favorite villains as she begs her friends not to fight him without her and even has a voice-recorded plush toy of him. After her father finally goes to sleep, she races to confront him with the others.[43]
