Muddulakshmi is an Indian Kannada language television drama series that airs on Star Suvarna and streams on the digital platform Disney+Hotstar.[1][2] It premiered on 22 January 2018.[3] It is a remake of the Asianet's Malayalam series Karuthamuthu.[4][5]

Plot[]

Kind-hearted and dark-skinned Muddulakshmi faces discrimination for her skin colour. Cardiologist Doctor Dhruvant falls in love with her and they marry. Initially she faces opposition from her mother-in-law, Soundarya, however later gets accepted. Meanwhile Dhruvant's colleague Sharvari desperately loves him and tries to separate Dhruvant and Muddulakshmi so she can marry him.

Soon, Muddulakshmi becomes pregnant while Sharvari poisons Dhruvant's mind claiming that it is not his child and that Muddulakshmi has had an affair. Dhruvant believes this and starts doubting Muddulakshmi. He gets furious and confronts Muddulakshmi, while she and the family members are shocked and heart-broken. Muddulakshmi claims it is their child which Dhruvant is not ready to believe. To not lose her self-respect, dignity and with the sake of the unborn child's good future in mind, Muddulakshmi leaves the house despite Soundarya and other family members trying to stop her. She struggles to get a job. Soon, she gives birth to twin girls, one fair and one dark, later named Drishti and Shrishti respectively. Before Muddulakshmi gains her consciousness however, Soundarya takes away the dark girl Shrishti, hoping that she might unite them in the future. She informs Dhruvant that she brought Shrishti from an orphanage to raise her for which Dhruvant agrees, and he starts to raise her like a daughter.

After eight years, Shrishti and Drishti encounter each other and grow close, unaware of their relation. This makes Muddulakshmi also encounter Dhruvant and his family while Dhruvant and Muddulakshmi often get into disagreements. While Soundarya is desperate to unite them, Sharvari plots to push them far apart. The story follows how Muddulakshmi and Dhruvant reunite after taking the DNA test proving that Shrishti and Drishti are their children.
