Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army and serving as the Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) since November 20, 2021. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on October 26, 2021 approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum as the new Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), nearly three weeks after the military announced a major reshuffle in its top brass. Lt Gen Anjum took over the reins of the spy agency on November 20, 2021. He was commissioned in 28th Punjab Regiment of infantry and is from 77th PMA Long Course. He has also served as Inspector-General of the Frontier Corps stationed in Balochistan from December 2016 to December 2018[2][3][4] and also served as Corps Commander of V Corps from December 2020 to October 2021.[5][6][7][8] He was de facto appointed as the DG ISI on 6 October 2021.[9] However, his appointment was later approved by PMO on 26 October 2021.[10] He succeeded General Faiz Hameed as DG ISI on 20 November 2021.

Appointment as DG ISI[]

He was de-facto appointed by the Chief of Army Staff, following an announcement by the DG ISPR. However, the PM's secretariat could not issue a notification in this regard until 26 October 2021. PM Imran Khan announced to make a consultation for this important future assignment.[11]

In the beginning of October 2021; the Prime Minister's Office formally received three names from the COAS for the appointment of a new DG ISI, including Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum, Lt. Gen. Sarfraz and Lt. Gen. Saqib Malik.[12][13][14] Later, Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed Anjum's appointment was approved by Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on 26 October 2021.[10] He took charge as DG ISI on November 20, 2021.[10]
