Neutopia II[a] is an action/adventure game developed by Hudson Soft for the PC-Engine in 1991. It was released for TurboGrafx-16 in 1992 and is the sequel to Neutopia. Players take control of Jazeta's son, who must begin a quest to both save his father and defeat Dirth. This game as well as the original was released on the PlayStation Network and Virtual Console.

Gameplay[]

Neutopia II shares many similarities in visuals and gameplay with the early "Legend of Zelda" titles.[1] The player takes control of a young boy who freely roams through a sizable 2D environment. The player may progress through accepted tasks in any order at certain points of the game, at other times it is more linear in progression and story.

Release[]

The game was released in Japan on September 27, 1991 for the PC-Engine.[2]

It was released for the Wii Virtual Console on June 12, 2007 in Japan. It was released later in North America on September 10, 2007 and the EU on September 14, 2007. It was released again on the Wii U Virtual console on July 30, 2014 and then the PlayStation Network on July 21, 2010.

Reception[]

Neutopia II received mostly positive reviews although some have criticized it as very derivative and imitative of The Legend of Zelda series.[1][3]

Famitsu gave the game a score of 27 out of 40.[2]

Nintendo Life gave the game a score of 8/10.[3] Eurogamer gave it a 7/10 score.[4] GameSpot gave it a 7/10 score.[1]
