Paropsisterna is a genus of leaf beetles indigenous to Papua New Guinea and Australia. There are over 120 species, many with bright aposematic colours, and many feeding on Eucalyptus leaves. The genus as currently defined includes species formerly listed under Chrysophtharta Weise, 1901.[2]
The genus was described by Victor Motschulsky in 1860.[3][4]
Notable species[]
- Paropsisterna bimaculata a pest on Eucalyptus regnans, E. obliqua and E. delegatensis[5]
- Paropsisterna m-fuscum a pest on Eucalyptus globulus[2][6]
- a pest on Eucalyptus in South Australia[7]
- Paropsisterna selmani a pest on Eucalyptus in Tasmania, introduced to the Republic of Ireland[8] and the United Kingdom.[2][9]
- proposed as a biological control agent of the invasive Australian Paperbark Tree Melaleuca quinquenervia in Florida.[10]
- a pest on Eucalyptus globulus[6]
