Pawandeep Rajan is an Indian singer, Composer,instrumentalist and actor predominantly singing and composing in Hindi, Kumaoni, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali and Assamese music industry . He is known for his soulful singing, versatility and capability of playing various musical instruments while singing.[1] He is the winner of two Indian singing reality shows, The voice (2015) and Indian Idol (2021). Currently he is serving as Brand Ambassador of Uttarakhand for culture, tourism and sports. He has been also appointed as the Electoral icon by the state Election commission, Uttarakhand for the 2022 assembly elections.[2]
Early life[]
Pawandeep was born on 27 April 1996 at a small village in Champawat district of Uttarakhand. He comes from a musical family background. His father Suresh Rajan is a renowned folk singer of Kumaoni language. His grandmother Kabutari Devi was also a folk singer who had given performances at the All India Radio stations in Rampur, Najibabad and Lucknow during her young age. He was trained by his father and later by his paternal uncle in the field of music. At the age of two and a half years, Pawandeep started playing Tabla with his father in various functions in Uttarakhand. He was also awarded 'The youngest tabla player' Award for his achievement.[3] He started learning singing at the age of fifteen and began his career as a lead vocalist in a band called 'RAIT' in Chandigarh. After that he decided to participate in the reality show The voice and emerged as a winner. In 2016, Pawandeep was declared as 'youth ambassador of uttarakhand' by the Uttarakhand state government.[4]
Musical career[]
After winning The Voice Pawandeep stepped into the music industry and he lent his voice for the song Yakeen for the Universal music group. He started his playback singing career by singing a song in a movie called Romeo and bullet. Since then he has been doing playback singing and composing for many movies from various music industries like Bengali, Marathi, and Punjabi etc. Some of his notable works being oi dakche akash from the movie kidnap (Bengali) and ‘satrangi jhala re’ from the movie ‘panghrun’ (Marathi), which is also his composition. Along with working in movies and albums he has been composing and singing his original songs independently, in both Hindi and kumaoni language. In the year 2020, he participated in the Indian singing reality show Indian idol (season 12) and he was widely appreciated for his voice, singing prowess and flawless instrument playing skills. He became a household name form this show and amassed a huge fan base, both in India as well as abroad. He eventually went on to win the show in the “greatest finale ever” held on 15 August 2021.[5] Pawandeep has also been doing concerts and shows since his childhood, and he is a well sought after artist for musical concerts. He has performed in more than 1200 shows and concerts in 13 countries all over the world.[6][7]
Acting[]
Pawandeep has also tried his hands at acting, though he doesn't consider himself as an actor. He acted in a supporting role in the Marathi movie FU (Friendship unlimited). In 2021 released drama-series 1962-the war in the hills Pawandeep played a character named Radar (Nido Tana) and displayed his acting skills.
